Heroic Undertaking

No need for saviors or protectors now. Pretenders can move to the back seat. It’s been a long process. After smashing the symbols of domesticity and docility, the new symbols have shed light and color to the otherwise bleak prospects of an existence without questioning.

Now that everything is suspect, how not to question whether this is the road or whether this is the way to cruise it. There’s nothing wrong with having some sense of certainty, especially if it feels good and revolutionary. But what exactly are we revolutionizing? Aren’t we exchanging one gender role for another? We can be anything we want, but does it not come with standards, and who is setting those standards now? Don’t we become compulsive consumers of different enslaving symbols?

We get rid of the oppressive competition. Is it enough to live for ourselves? What’s next? What do we do with those who do not conform to the aesthetic standards? Can we support a show we do not fit it and which makes us cry in front of a live audience?

Why bother posing hideous questions when we can just look good and have fun?
