Yesterday evening, some information spread across the Internet. As announced by The Witcher's showrunner, a truly famous and talented name was cast to play the role of the popular vampire Regis. When I wrote about it in the news a few months ago, I had a feeling that it would be a Black actor. I won't pretend, I started laughing at first and last night I was mocking it for several dozen minutes with my friends who like this franchise. After the laughing phase passed, I decided that if it were a good series, I would defend this decision. He is talented, accepted by people who do not like black people (I am not talking about justified complaints, such as, for example, about minorities who steal - such as Poles and some Slavs who went to England or Germany as soon as the EU opened the borders or about most of the refugees who have been storming Europe for years - most, not all. I'm talking about racists, it's worth distinguishing.), and he has managed to build his reputation over the years. I'm sure that if The Witcher was made by good creators, Laurence Fishburne would have given us at least a good Regis. In fact, Morpheus from The Matrix resembles him, at least in terms of philosophy and debates about morality, etc. I mean, seriously, what reason would there be to complain? He passed the casting, so he had to somehow interest the creators. He has skill, so even if I didn't like his role, I wouldn't consider it weak. In fact, I might like her after all these years. After all, it's normal to look at things differently after many years. I could live with a different skin color - it's annoying, but that's how art works. You can either be outraged or accept it. And I don't have time for the first one.

I liked the first season and if it had a higher budget + a few big mistakes were corrected (which could be done without too much interference in the script and the series itself), it would be really good. It was good - it adapted the source material well and gave the franchise new fans. All you had to do was do what I said in season 2 and subsequent seasons, and Netflix would have a very good answer to Game of Thrones (and they have already aimed at this more than once - Altered Carbon, Marco Polo). They went for terrible quality and cheap controversy - I don't remember whether it was Disney or Netflix, but one of these two companies said unofficially that they deliberately cast actors of different skin colors in white roles to create a scandal on the Internet. Initially it actually had some effect (people watched out of curiosity), but it didn't work in the long run. The quality of the series was and is far too low.

Will I watch this season? No, at most a compilation of scenes, as I did after the premiere of the last batch of episodes of season 3. The fight with Vilgefortz was cool, but worse than the one in the book. Generally speaking, everything is worse than the books. Pity. Like I said, Netflix had a franchise on their hands where they could squeeze in a lot of things that are criticized by Woke's enemies, right-wing supporters, and ordinary people who don't like change. If anyone denies this, let them read the books - I have read them and I see a lot of unused space. No normal person would even complain because they would be plowed right away. And Netflix could learn something new too. Sapkowski very wisely summarized racists, criticism of anything for stupid or petty reasons, the rightness of ecology, tolerance, but also justified the place of religion in our world, and wisely criticized abortion (while not condemning it!). It's worth reading, a wise book that sometimes makes you think.

Wczoraj wieczorem, przez internet przemknęła pewna informacja. Zgodnie z zapowiedziami showrunnerki Wiedźmina, do roli lubianego wampira Regisa zaangażowano naprawdę znane i utalentowane nazwisko. Jak o tym pisałem w newsach kilka miesięcy temu, to podskórnie czułem że będzie to Czarnoskóry aktor. Nie będę udawał, w pierwszej chwili zacząłem się śmiać i wczoraj w nocy przez kilkadziesiąt minut drwiłem z tego z moimi kolegami, którzy lubią tę franczyzę. Gdy minęła mi faza śmiechu, to stwierdziłem że gdyby to był dobry serial, to bym bronił tej decyzji. Jest on utalentowany, akceptowany przez ludzi nie lubiących Czarnoskórych (nie mówię tu o uzasadnionym narzekaniu, tak jak np. na mniejszości, które kradną - jak np. Polacy i część Słowian, która trafiła do Anglii albo Niemiec, jak tylko UE otworzyła granice lub o większości uchodźców, którzy od lat szturmują Europę - większości, nie wszystkich. Mówię o rasistach, warto to rozróżnić.), no i przez lata zdążył zbudować swoją renomę. Jestem pewien, że gdyby Wiedźmin trafił do dobrych twórców, to Laurence Fishburne dałby nam co najmniej dobrego Regisa. W sumie Morfeusz z Matrix go przypomina, przynajmniej w kwestii filozofii i debat o moralności etc. No bo serio, jaki byłby powód do narzekań? Przeszedł casting, więc musiał jakoś zainteresować twórców. Skilla ma, więc nawet gdyby jego rola nie przypadłaby mi do gustu, to raczej nie uznałbym jej za słabą. Ba, mógłbym ją polubić po latach. W końcu to normalne, że po latach patrzymy na różne rzeczy inaczej. Mógłbym przeżyć inny kolor skóry - jest to irytujące, ale tak działa sztuka. Można się albo oburzać albo pogodzić z się z tym. A mi już szkoda czasu na to pierwsze.

Pierwszy sezon mi się podobał i gdyby miał wyższy budżet + poprawiono by parę dużych błędów (co można byłoby zrobić bez zbytniej ingerencji w scenariusz i sam serial), to byłby naprawdę dobry. Był niezły - nieźle zaadaptował materiał źródłowy, zapewnił tej franczyzie nowych fanów. Wystarczyło tylko zrobić to, co mówiłem w 2 sezonie i kolejnych, a Netflix miałby bardzo dobrą odpowiedź na Grę o Tron (a już nie raz w to celowali - Altered Carbon, Marco Polo). Poszli w beznadziejną jakość i tanią kontrowersję - nie pamiętam już, czy to Disney czy Netflix, ale któraś z tych dwóch firm powiedziała nieoficjalnie, że celowo biorą aktorów o innym kolorze skóry do białych ról, by była afera w internecie. Początkowo to faktycznie dawało jakiś skutek (ludzie oglądali z ciekawości), ale to nie działa na długą metę. Jakość serialu była i jest dalece zbyt niska.

Czy obejrzę ten sezon? Nie, co najwyżej kompilację scen, tak jak to zrobiłem po premierze ostatniej paczki odcinków 3 sezonu. Pojedynek z Vilgefortzem był fajny, ale gorszy od tego z książki. Generalnie wszystko jest gorsze od książek. Szkoda. Tak jak mówiłem, Netflix miał w rękach franczyzę, w której mogliby wcisnąć mnóstwo rzeczy, które krytykują wrogowie Woke, zwolennicy prawicy, zwykli ludzie nie lubiący zmian. Jeżeli ktoś to neguje, to niech przeczyta książki - ja przeczytałem i widzę mnóstwo niezagospodarowanej przestrzeni. Nikt normalny by nawet nie narzekał, bo zaraz zostałby zaorany. A i Netflix mógłby się nauczyć czegoś nowego. Sapkowski bardzo mądrze podsumował rasistów, krytykę czegokolwiek z głupich lub małostkowych powodów, słuszność ekologii, tolerancji, ale również uzasadnił miejsce religii w naszym świecie, skrytykował w mądry sposób aborcję (jednocześnie jej nie potępiając!). Warto przeczytać, mądra książka która czasem zmusza do myślenia.
