Cahuare. Mexico, food of the gods.
The town of Cahuare itself is nondescript and of no significance. It was just a stopping point for food and a spin down the Rio Grande in a speedbaot.
Yesterday was a 10 hour drive, this morning a further 5 hour drive. My arse cheeks are numb, it's fucking hot, the air con is crap.
I am weary.
When we pull up at the jetty side restaurant, I peruse the menu I see only fish, fish and more fucking fish.
NOW I am pissed off.
"I will be back in an hour" I announced, "I am going in search of proper food"
Three other restaurants on the small street all selling... yup you got it.
Then, THEN THEN
I see a faded sign on the side of the road it says fifteen miles to the love shack food glorious food, what more is the question, rich gentlemen have it boys in di gestion.(one for the musical types out there)
I'm not sure but I think if I remember correctly I started skipping up the lane in joyous abandonment
"Hello, I shall pop in and see you later jc. More important things to do first" growled my inner self.
It was as though I had walked into someones house, in fact I had, in many parts of especially, rural Mexico Comodores or Cantinas occupy the front rooms of houses, where you can sit down order a beer and eat some proper homestyle Mexican food.
The Oferata with all its offerings was still in situ.
An amuse bouche, or two, whilst I wait for the main event
The taste buds came alive, how can something so simple taste so amazing
Well done chef, simply gorgeous food and hospitality, I shall now be skipping back a happy chappy.
Chapel "Holy Virgin of Guadalupe" , is a simple, small colourful catholic church on a dusty out of town highway, its only claim to fame is that it is a near neighbour, to the best tacos in town.
Still evidence around the church of the recent day of the dead festival
Cristo Negro, have never seen this before, but apparently it is quite common in Central America.
So back to the fish eaters, some of whom commented they wished they had joined me as the food was crap

When I get hungry I also get in a terrible mood, it's lucky you found something tasty to eat in a place that seems so lonely, these days I've been craving to try authentic Mexican food but I haven't gotten a really good one around here.
cheers @skiptvads , I know what you mean Indian restaurants by the dozen, decent Mexican zilch here too.
The title food of the gods brought my curiosity here. It's a happy ending you found a good chef.
cheers @dodovietnam it was a wonderful dining experience!
For me, fish would be the glory. And how about that Modelo beer?
nah, don't like fish or seafood @nanixxx ,but everyone is different, but the beer? oh yes lol
