More Snow and Shopping - December 16, 2024 @goldenoakfarm
Lacinato kale in the deep cold in the Big garden
On Monday morning we woke to more snow but just an inch. I got the post up and went out at 8AM to sweep the steps and walkways before it started to melt or rain.
Then I sat down for a cup of tea before getting ready to go shopping with my #2 intern. I got everything piled on the washer in the kitchen and when she arrived at 10AM we set out for the post office and the senior center. As we left the senior center, I realized I’d left my purse at home. Sigh… It hadn’t been in the pile on the washer, just on the island next to it.
So back home we went and set out again to do shopping. First we went to the grocery store for scallops and Everclear grain alcohol for making vanilla and other extracts. Next was the pet supply store to find 2 special meals for Larry, something he won’t ever get except as specials. We found turkey and duck, and rabbit, both in gravy as he loves gravy.
Next was a grocery store that accepts my produce card, except when we got to the registers, the card wasn’t accepted. Sigh… So I paid and we headed to the bank.
After the bank we went looking for a clothing repair place I had used in 2020, but it was gone. So my heavy jacket wasn’t going to be repaired there. I’d have to find a new place, plus find out why my produce card wouldn’t work.
From there we crossed the river to “Africa” and went to the thrift store. I found 6 new shirts for $22 and my #2 intern found a flannel sleep shirt she loved for $5. I was able to find all but 1 in 100% cotton.
Rabbit tracks are all over the yard
From there we went to the co-op and found stuff for Christmas dinner and stockings and lunches.
Elves and trees I rescued from my Uncle’s house
We made it home with 20 minutes to spare. I had most of the stuff put away by the time the person for the appointment arrived. She loved the Christmas tree. I hadn’t turned it on yet because I wasn’t going to be home, so I turned it on for her.
Once she left, I returned to laundry stripping and finished putting stuff away.
The rest of the afternoon was spent keeping stoves going, or getting them going, and watching movies. This is one I like to watch each year.
On Tuesday my helper friend arrives at 9:30AM, it’s supposed to warm up. We’ll water house plants and then I’ll see if we can get the peach trees treated for the curly leaf disease.
The Kale covered in snow look like some aliens 😁
Check tomorrow's post for what the kale looked like today...
Snow as the holidays approach is just so much better!
Well, it certainly seems more like winter with snow. But today it is a balmy 50'sF and sunny and like springtime...
Winter is really here, so much snow in the driveway. But I took pity on the droopy Kale.
Wow
I’m sure that there will even be more snow to come up
That’s nice
I hope the kale will be able to survive the cold weather.
Sometimes it does, but not usually...
the curly leaf disease caused extensive damage to crops, very cold, it was necessary to keep the stove on. After a lot of work, you had some time to relax.
You got the same snow we did and now it is 40 out and we have wind and rain. lol. love the snow-covered kale.
Check back tomorrow to see what it looked like today...
22$ for 6 shirts are a very good deal!
Wow! The snow covered the whole garden!! The garden looks much bigger in white. The yellow house also stands out beautifully against white snow.
Those shirts are very good value. It’s nicer to have all cotton shirts. I get itchy with mixed fabric, but I have to wear these till they fall to pieces.
I might need a stove for keeping warm in winter one day. It’s getting colder in winter every year.
The Christmas trees are looking lovelier than ever.
