I'm participating in The #beersaturday Challenge - Week 375!
I enjoyed two cans of beer with a movie this week, so let's talk about that.

I have been watching some Japanese movies for the past year or two.

I have always been a fan of Western movies and was not very familiar with Japanese movies. Also, from 2000 to the beginning of 2010, there was a mass production of tragic love movies in Japan in which one of the couples dies of an incurable disease, and I had been avoiding Japanese movies especially since that time. Recently, however, I have started to watch a few more, and I have found that there are many surprisingly interesting works.

This time, I watched "A Man" (2022, Japan) while emptying two cans of beer. The lead actor is Satoshi Tsumabuki. His acting ability is amazing...I have seen several other movies he has appeared in, and they were all very good.

This #BeerSaturday was a spur-of-the-moment idea that came to me when I took a break from housework in the morning, so I didn't have any food ready at home that would be a good accompaniment for beer. I had some komatsuna greens I had bought a few days earlier and a little leftover frozen karaage in the fridge, so I decided to make do with those. I heated the karaage in the microwave and boiled the komatsuna for soaking.

The first can of beer was Suntory Akaneiro Ale, which I bought because of its design, as usual. When I poured it, the color was beautiful, like a sunset! It might be perfect for the end of summer, just like now.

Akaneiro Ale is one of the "The Premium Malts 〈Japanese Ale〉" series, the same as the "Ryo no Ne Ale" that I posted the other day. It is said to feature a "fruity flavor and refreshing aroma" that suits Japanese tastes, and I certainly found it easy to drink. The reddish-bronze color is due in part to the use of several types of dark malts. The alcohol content is 6%.

Let's get back to "A Man". The story of this movie begins with the main character, a woman who remarries a mysterious man she met at the stationery store where she works. However, only a few years after her remarriage, the man dies in an accident, and the story continues to unfold as his past is gradually revealed.

The story drew the viewer in as the mystery deepened.

I am a big fan of such mysterious developments in both Western and Japanese movies.... As for "A Man," the actors' performances were so natural that I didn't feel like I was watching a movie. Maybe it was because I was watching it while drinking, but I forgot about reality for a while and immersed myself in the world of the movie.

I quickly opened the second can as well. Next up was Asahi Draft Beer, also known as "MARUEFU". The design of this can is cute, too.
MARUEF was developed in 1986 as a revival product for Asahi Beer, which was in the doldrums. MARUEF, which is "full-bodied yet sharp," was marketed under the name “Asahi Draft Beer” and became a big hit.

Later, with the release of "Super Dry," sales of "MARUEFU" canned beer were said to have ended, but due to its deep-rooted popularity, it was revived in 2021. The alcohol content is 4.5%. It was a mild and easy-drinking beer.

Now that I've eaten up both the komatsuna and the karaage, I searched the cupboards and found a snack food, crunchy corn consommé flavor. This is the best accompaniment to MARUEF☺

From the middle of the film, a lawyer played by Satoshi Tsumabuki pursues the identity of a mysterious man in a series of scenes. Overall, the story progresses in a heavy atmosphere, and the end is also somewhat bewildering. But recently I have come to enjoy stories like this that have no answers and cannot be judged simply on the basis of good or bad.

I knew it was a great combination of beer and movies ☺ Thank you @detlev for organizing another great event this week!

I would like to invite my husband @iroha to #BeerSaturday. He's a drinker, so I'm sure he'll enjoy it 😉

The #BeerSaturday Challenge - Week 375
