Trama // Plot

La película empieza fuerte, pues lo primero que nos muestran es el suicidio de una niña de 11 años en su cumpleaños. A medida que la historia avanza se revelan secretos oscuros y nos damos cuenta de que tipo de relación lleva la familia en si. Como lo dije al principio, la película trata temas muy delicados y perturbadores en donde se explora la dinámica familiar, la opresión y el abuso de todo tipo.

The film starts off strong, as the first thing we are shown is the suicide of an 11-year-old girl on her birthday. As the story progresses, dark secrets are revealed and we realize what kind of relationship the family has. As I said at the beginning, the film deals with very delicate and disturbing issues where family dynamics, oppression and abuse of all kinds are explored.

Estilo Visual // Visual Style

La película utiliza un estilo visual sombrío para hacernos entender que todo el contexto está rodeado por una atmosfera opresiva y el director se encarga de meternos en el papel ya que se enfoca mas que todo en los planos cerrados, creando así una sensación de claustrofobia y tensión.

The film uses a somber visual style to make us understand that the whole context is surrounded by an oppressive atmosphere and the director takes care to put us in the role as he focuses mostly on close-ups, creating a sense of claustrophobia and tension.

Narrativa // Narrative

A través de una narrativa minimalista y simbolismos, la película va revelando los secretos oscuros que han estado latentes en la familia; secretos que luego nos enteramos, llevaron a la niña de 11 años acabar con su vida. La historia nos puede llegar a sorprender por ratos, porque a pesar de que sabemos que algo anda mal con esa familia, hay escenas que realmente no esperamos ver.

Through a minimalist narrative and symbolism, the film reveals the dark secrets that have been latent in the family; secrets that we later learn led the 11-year-old girl to end her life. The story can surprise us at times, because even though we know that something is wrong with the family, there are scenes that we don't really expect to see.

Actuaciones // Performances

Con respecto a las actuaciones, todos los personajes transmiten una sensación de incomodidad, pues logran transmitir lo mal que la están pasando. Con esta película llegué a sentir asco y odio con muchos personajes, así como también pude empatizar e incluso llegar a sentirme impaciente por la actitud de varios de ellos.

La actuación de Themis Panou, el cual hace el papel del patriarca de la familia, realmente me convenció con su frialdad y falta de expresión emocional de que merecía lo peor.

With respect to the performances, all the characters convey a sense of discomfort, as they manage to convey how bad they are having a hard time. With this film I came to feel disgust and hatred with many characters, as well as I could empathize and even feel impatient with the attitude of several of them.

The performance of Themis Panou, who plays the patriarch of the family, really convinced me with his coldness and lack of emotional expression that he deserved the worst.

Final ambiguo // Ambiguous ending

El final de la película queda abierto, pues se da a entender que debido a al acontecimiento final, todo puede estar bien para todos, pero también nos hace preguntarnos a cerca del destino de todos. No lo he dicho por no querer hacer spoiler, pero esta familia estaba rodeada de muchas cosas oscuras, las cuales nos pone a pensar a los espectadores en que podría pasar después; ¿seguirán con el mismo patrón de conducta o romperán ese ciclo enfermizo interminable?.

The end of the film is left open, as it is implied that due to the final event, everything may be fine for everyone, but it also makes us wonder about the fate of all. I haven't said it because I don't want to make spoilers, but this family was surrounded by many dark things, which makes us the viewers wonder what could happen next; will they continue with the same pattern of behavior or will they break that endless sickening cycle?

En resumen, "Miss Violence" es una película que abarca todo lo que tiene que ver con abuso intrafamiliar, opresión y prohibición de la libre expresión. Al contar con una narrativa cuidadosamente construida hace que la experiencia sea intensa y nos lleva a reflexionar. Sin embargo, debido a los temas fuertes que se tocan, es recomendable verla con precaución porque no la considero apta para personas sensibles.

In short, "Miss Violence" is an all-encompassing film about domestic abuse, oppression and the prohibition of free speech. Its carefully constructed narrative makes for an intense and thought-provoking experience. However, due to the strong themes that are touched upon, it is advisable to watch it with caution because I do not consider it suitable for sensitive people.
