Análisis de la película: LEÓN, EL PROFESIONAL [ESP/ENG]
Hello, Hive moviegoers! This month is very special for me, so I'm going to do a marathon of my favorite movies since I can remember. I remember that since I was very little I used to watch movies of all kinds with my father (he loved them) and from there, my love for movies started. Today I bring you a movie that for years was my favorite. I hope you like the review, I leave you with it c:
LEÓN, EL PROFESIONAL
This cinematic gem was directed by Luc Besson and released in 1994. In it, different elements of action, drama and thriller are mixed in a brilliant way. The film focuses on the life of Leon, a hired killer (played by Jean Reno) and Mathilda, a girl whose family is brutally murdered (played by Natalie Portman).
Trama // Plot
The film focuses on the friendship between Leon (a hired killer) and Mathilda (a 12-year-old orphan). The premise is interesting, because it is difficult to understand how these two people could have such a close relationship.
The fact here is that Mathilda, being alone in the world, tries to find refuge in her mysterious neighbor, because it is worth mentioning that her whole family was murdered and to her misfortune, the next one would be her. When she sees that her neighbor is really a murderer, she is determined to learn everything necessary to avenge her little brother, who was the only member of her family she cared about.
Regarding Leon, he is a character with whom you get to empathize, because he is a murderer because it is basically the only thing he knows how to do and apart from that, he suffers from a mental disorder. The film doesn't focus on breaking down what he suffers from, but it's evident.
Leon has a peculiar killing code, as he doesn't kill children or women, which is something important here, because due to this thinking he chooses to protect Mathilda, teaching her to defend herself and ultimately helping her to take revenge.
Actuaciones // Performances
The performances by Jean Reno and Nathalie Portman were masterful. Jean Reno, personified Leon so well, that despite being a murderer, he makes us empathize with his situation; we see the human side of a person who was only born for that, who is alone in the world and that if it had not been for Mathilda, he would not have a purpose to continue living.
For her part, Nathalie Portman surprised the audience, because at her young age, she managed to give life to one of the most iconic characters she has played. She succeeded in making Mathilda, an abused and withdrawn girl, become a strong teenager with a broader perspective on life.
We cannot leave aside the chemistry between the protagonists, much less the excellent performance of Gary Oldman, who was the villain of the film, as it contributes significantly to the emotional impact of the film.
With respect to the visual style, the director uses a color palette that reflects the duality of the stories: the darkness of the world in which Leon is immersed, contrasted with the light that Mathilda brings to his life.
In short, the film stands out as a cult work, where excellent direction, moving performances and a profound exploration of certain themes intertwine to create a cinematic experience that endures with viewers to this day.
Thanks for reading and watching, I hope you liked it a lot.
