El día de hoy les compartiré mi reseña de esta película protagonizada por el menor de los hermanos Culkin, Rory Culkin, la cual trata de temas muy profundos, fuertes y que se mezcla con el terror psicológico. Es una película de thriller que busca resolver una incógnita en la vida de nuestro protagonista que a su vez dará a conocer todo sobre su pasado y que lo cambiará completamente, te atreverías a conocer la verdad en aquello que tu mente decidió olvidar y que tan dispuesto estás para aceptar lo que sea que encuentres allí?. Let's talk a little about the plot, the film introduces us to our protagonist Jack who after a call where they warn him that his parents had a car accident decides to take a trip to his hometown and help his mother in mourning the death of his father but as the days go by in that house Jack begins to find objects with his name which will help him rediscover his childhood and this will risk his stability and will make him change completely.
The film of suspense and psychological horror genre has a very striking cast in which we can recognize some legendary stars, as the protagonist we have Rory Culkin, we also have the performance of the incredible Lin Shaye which we recognize by films like Insidious (2010) and The Grudge (2020), we also have the magnificent performances of Britt Robertson, Nikki Reed, Daveigh Chase, Natasha Lyonne and Serge Levin. These actors and actresses embodied these complicated and strange characters to give us an incredible film that makes us doubt what is real and what is imagined.
Hablemos un poco sobre la trama, la película nos presenta a nuestro protagonista Jack el cual luego de una llamada en donde le avisan que sus padres tuvieron un accidente automovilístico decide emprender un viaje a su pueblo natal y ayudar a su madre en el duelo de la muerte de su padre pero a medida que van pasando los días en aquella casa Jack comienza a encontrar objetos con su nombre los cuales le ayudarán a redescubrir su infancia y esto pondrá en riesgo su estabilidad y hará que cambie por completo.
La película de género suspenso y terror psicológico cuenta con un reparto bastante llamativo en el cual podemos reconocer a algunas estrellas legendarias, como protagonista tenemos a Rory Culkin, asimismo contamos con la actuación de la increíble Lin Shaye la cual reconocemos por películas como la noche del demonio (2010) y la maldición renace (2020), igualmente contamos con las magníficas actuaciones de Britt Robertson, Nikki Reed, Daveigh Chase, Natasha Lyonne y Serge Levin. Estos actores y actrices encarnaron a estos complicados y extraños personajes para darnos un increíble film que nos hace dudar de lo real y lo imaginado.
Our protagonist Jack who is about to have a baby receives a call that his parents had a car accident and this caused the death of his father, he decides to return home to organize the funeral and to take care of his mother who was injured by the accident and mourning the death of her husband however when he arrives he realizes that perhaps there are things he did not remember and some attitudes of his mother begin to reveal old memories of his childhood, among his things he gets some tapes with his name on them and as he begins to listen to them he realizes that they are messages his father left for him so little by little he will begin to see the truth of what his life was before moving to New York and maybe everything he was burying in the back of his mind was something that should remain there because of all the consequences it would bring, maybe Jack should never have returned home.
The 2016 movie is available on the streaming platform Amazon prime video and on Apple TV, in addition it is also available on any online movie site. It is 1 hour 40 minutes long and is rated R (16+) for explicit sexual and violent content, adult language, drug use and gory scenes.
Nuestro protagonista Jack quién está a punto de tener un bebé recibe una llamada de que sus padres tuvieron un accidente automovilístico y éste causó la muerte de su padre, el decide volver a su hogar para organizar el funeral y para cuidar de su madre quien quedó herida por el accidente y el duelo por la muerte de su esposo sin embargo cuando llega se da cuenta de que quizás existen cosas que no recordaba y algunas actitudes de su madre comienzan a revelar viejos recuerdos de su infancia, entre sus cosas consigue unas cintas con su nombre y al empezar a escucharlas se da cuenta de que son mensajes que su padre dejó para el así poco a poco comenzará a ver la verdad de lo que fue su vida antes de mudarse a Nueva York y quizás todo lo que estaba enterrando en el fondo de su mente era algo que debía permanecer allí debido a todas las consecuencias que traería, quizás Jack jamás debió volver a casa.
La pelicula del 2016 se encuentra disponible en la plataforma de streaming Amazon prime video y en Apple TV, además también se encuentra disponible en cualquier página de películas online. Su duración es de 1 hora 40 minutos y tiene una clasificación R (para mayores de 16 años) por su contenido explícito sexual y violento, lenguaje adulto, uso de drogas y escenas sangrientas.
I took the initiative to see this movie after watching scream 4 where Rory Culkin also appears and I liked his performance so I looked for some of the movies he had made and I saw this one, I was not at all prepared for what I was going to see and when I finished it I was shocked not only by the plot but by the ending. Rory's performance was impressive, the way his character changes and how he fractures as he relives parts of his past, quite painful and strong parts that because of the trauma they caused made his defense mechanism hide them in the depths of his subconscious and this caused him to find out everything he lived through and he came to think that everything was a lie, that he had not lived any of that but the physical evidence of it was kept in that house from which he had escaped.
The story is a bit strange, the fact that the film has this dark filter in all the scenes already makes everything becomes disturbing and full of suspense, the way in which he is abruptly removed from the reality he had before the accident is very noticeable, it is noticeable in his body language as if his body was reacting to what he does not remember, and although he does not seem to be affected by having to return to his house, it is clear that he is, as he starts having nightmares and sleepwalking again, and it is in this state where a small fragment of his past is revealed to us, as he murmurs in fear that he does not want to return to the attic, from there we can see that something very bad happened to him in his past.
Tomé la iniciativa de verme está película luego de verme scream 4 en donde también sale Rory Culkin y me gustó su actuación así que busque algunas de las películas que el había realizado y vi ésta, no estaba para nada preparada para lo que iba a ver y al terminarla quedé en shock no solo por la trama sino por el final. La actuación de Rory fue impresionante, la forma en la que va cambiando su personaje y como se va fracturando a medida que va reviviendo partes de su pasado, partes bastante dolorosas y fuertes que por el trauma que causaron hicieron que su mecanismo de defensa los escondieran en lo más profundo de su subconsciente y esto causó que al enterarse de todo lo que vivió el llegara a pensar que todo era mentira, que el no había vivido nada de eso pero las pruebas físicas de ello estaban guardadas en aquella casa de la cual había escapado.
La historia es un poco extraña, el hecho de que la película tenga este filtro oscuro en todas las escenas ya hace que todo se vuelva inquietante y lleno de suspenso, la forma en la que el es abruptamente alejado de la realidad que tenía antes de aquel accidente es muy notable, se nota en su lenguaje corporal como si su cuerpo estuviera reaccionando a aquello que el no recuerda, defendiendose de forma inmediata y aunque el parece no estar afectado por tener que volver a su casa se nota que lo está ya que vuelve a tener pesadillas y a ser sonámbulo y es en ese estado en donde se nos revela un pequeño fragmento de su pasado ya que el murmura asustado el no querer volver al ático, desde ahí podemos notar que algo muy malo le ocurrió en su pasado.
It is a pretty strong film but it touches in an interesting way the theme of psychological trauma and defense mechanisms, I am not an expert on the subject but I understand how in certain situations our body reacts defensively for something we may not remember, is something that they work in a great way since they join it to the horror genre where our greatest fear is ourselves and we see this through the hallucinations lived where we get to feel that they are so real that we believe that it is really happening and that is where we feel terror of our memories, to return to those dark places that we hide in the depths of our brain and that although we do not remember exactly what happened produces feelings of anxiety and despair just by looking in that direction. All this is worked in the film, specifically in our protagonist, because while he is listening to the cassettes that his father left him, he is solving the mystery behind that attic and his mother's behavior, as well as having other encounters that will also reveal more details about what really happened to him when he was a child.
Touching on topics rarely talked about in the world of cinema such as sexual abuse in men but that has the same weight and importance as any abuse, also the verbal and physical abuse of parents, it is a film that touches on sensitive issues but does not make them up but shows them as they are, strong, traumatic and horrible and showing what this can cause in the person as he grows up that can occur as in the case of our protagonist Jack who completely lost the memories of what he suffered.
Es una película bastante fuerte pero que toca de una forma interesante el tema de el trauma psicológico y los mecanismos de defensa, no soy muy experta en el tema pero entiendo como en ciertas situaciones nuestro cuerpo reacciona de manera defensiva por algo que quizás no recordemos, es algo que trabajan de manera genial ya que lo unen al género del terror en donde nuestro mayor miedo es nosotros mismos y esto lo vemos a través de las alucinaciones vividas en donde llegamos a sentir que son tan reales que creemos que realmente está ocurriendo y allí es donde sentimos terror de nuestros recuerdos, de volver a esos lugares tenebrosos que ocultamos en lo más profundo de nuestro cerebro y que aunque no recordemos exactamente lo que ocurrió nos produce sensaciones de ansiedad y desesperación el solo hecho de mirar hacia esa dirección. Todo esto es trabajado en la película, específicamente en nuestro protagonista, ya que mientras el va escuchando los casettes que le dejó su padre es que va resolviendo el misterio detrás de aquel ático y del comportamiento de su madre asimismo va teniendo otros encuentros que también revelarán más detalles sobre lo que realmente le sucedió cuando era niño.
Tocando temas muy poco hablados en el mundo del cine como es el abuso sexual en hombres pero que tiene el mismo peso e importancia que cualquier abuso, asimismo el maltrato tanto verbal y físico de los padres, es una película que toca temas delicados pero no los maquilla sino que los muestra tal cual como son, fuertes, traumáticos y horribles y mostrando lo que esto puede causar en la persona a medida que va creciendo que puede ocurrir como en el caso de nuestro protagonista Jack el cual perdió completamente los recuerdos de lo que sufrió.
I really liked this movie because psychological horror is one of the ones I like the most in horror because it feels much more real, the emotions are stronger and the anxiety and terror is felt at minute one of starting the movie and that's how this movie felt despite having a slightly strange ending I can say that it is a very good movie and I recommend it, It is not for everyone and you have to have a little stomach to be able to digest the whole theme and the situations even so it is a film that achieves its purpose which is to show the psychological terror and all that it entails such as hallucinations, visions, memories, physical reactions and tension. It is a painful film to watch since many things could have been done to avoid the situation that occurred but many factors came together that only made it worse but it is a reality that is often not talked about for fear not only of the repercussions but also for the opinion of society on this issue that also contributes to men who have suffered abuse not receiving the attention and psychological treatment that is required.
Me gustó mucho esta película ya que el terror psicológico es uno de los que más me gusta dentro del terror porque se llega a sentir mucho más real, las emociones son más fuertes y la ansiedad y el terror se siente al minuto uno de empezar la película y así fue como se sintió esta película a pesar de tener un final un poco extraño puedo decir que es una película muy buena y la recomiendo, no es para todo el mundo y tienes que tener un poco de estómago para poder digerir todo el tema y las situaciones aún así es una película que logra su cometido el cual es mostrar el terror psicológico y todo lo que esté conlleva como lo son las alucinaciones, las visiones, los recuerdos, las reacciones físicas y la tensión. Es una película dolorosa de ver ya que pudieron haberse realizado muchas cosas para evitar la situación que ocurrió pero se unieron muchos factores que solo fueron empeorando pero es una realidad que muchas veces no se habla con frecuencia por temor no solo a las repercusiones sino por la opinión de la sociedad sobre ese tema que de igual forma contribuye a que los hombres que han sufrido abuso no reciban la atención y el tratamiento psicológico que es requerido.
