Black Mirror (Season 6): Only two episodes maintain the original essence of the series / Black Mirror (Temporada 6): Solo dos episodios mantienen la esencia original de la serie
After a few years one of the series that focuses on the misuse of technology Black Mirror returns and after a fifth season, which, despite having some good episodes, overall was not a season as good as the previous ones, that's why I thought that for this 6th season they would have learned from their mistakes and make a better season, but it was not so and the most recent season of Black Mirror is the one that is farthest away from the concept for which this series is recognized: Technology, of the five episodes that this 6th season consisted of only two episodes focused on the use of technology and current events, the other episodes, although I'm not going to lie, were entertaining, in the end it seems that they were scripts of anything but Black Mirror and that they only used ideas they had saved for other series and put them in this season. This 6th season, personally, was quite disappointing, I only liked two of the five episodes and although as I said before, in itself, those episodes that move away from what represents the series are not bad, but they are totally far from the essence of Black Mirror.
Joan Is Awful
It is the first episode of this 6th season and together with the third episode they are the only ones that focus on technology. This first episode is about Joan's life, who is a woman living her boring life with a man she doesn't really love. But everything in her radically changes when one night she is watching TV with her boyfriend and they start looking for something to watch on what would be a Netflix parody app (Netflix parodying itself) they find that there is a series called "Joan Is Awful", which would be a series focused on the life of the protagonist of this episode, Joan, so this logically confuses Joan to see that everything that is happening in that episode were things that happened to her that same day, even showing things that happened to her minutes before, all very strange for her and for all her acquaintances who are also watching that episode. In itself, this is a classic episode of Black Mirror, where Netflix itself, parodies itself. This episode itself is similar to what was seen in the movie "The Truman Show", but with a different approach. The loss of privacy through social networks is one of the focuses of this episode and also focuses on how the Terms of Use that we accept from different applications can be used in the way we want, all from a very exaggerated aspect, as always focuses Black Mirror, but understandable. The end of this series and how it unfolds everything related to the creation of the series based on Joan, in the end was something I expected, as it deals with simulations of different levels.
Loch Henry
Although this episode was good, with many nuances and with many conveniences, in general terms, it is a decent episode, but this has nothing to do with what Black Mirror raised with the use of technology. In general terms, this episode is about how a couple plans to make a documentary about a guy and some eggs or something, the truth is that it is irrelevant, the point is that such a documentary is very boring and the girlfriend of the protagonist was not so agree to do it. The couple when returning to the protagonist's hometown to visit his mother, he lets his girlfriend know and she herself realizes that this is a ghost town and he explains that a few years ago there was a series of murders which completely killed tourism in that town, so everything is alone and empty. The protagonist's girlfriend, upon learning of this event, convinces him that instead of making a boring documentary about a guy and some eggs, it would be better to make it about this serial killer and that it would also be something representative for him since his father was involved in the arrest of the murderer. During most of the episode they are focused on the realization and investigation of this event, but there comes a point where the series gives to understand the real causes of these murders and from that moment is something that becomes very obvious and in the end loses all the surprise because they were not very subtle in giving the clues. This episode started quite entertaining, but then there were too many obvious things and conveniences that ruined the final moments, but the most important thing is that nothing of what happened in this episode has to do with Black Mirror and I think this sentence is something that I will repeat a couple of times more.
Beyond The Sea
It is the episode that could be said to maintain the essence of Black Mirror and also this episode is the one I was most looking forward to watching because Aaron Paul, known for having acted in Breaking Bad, was going to star in this episode and it would not be the first time that this actor "appears" in Black Mirror, as in an episode of a few seasons ago, makes a small cameo playing for a few moments the voice of a "character", a very small role but it was funny. Beyond The Sea focuses on a duo of astronauts who are traveling in space to test the resistance and survival of humans in this environment, they are in a ship that is thousands of miles from planet earth, but can maintain contact with their families through replicas of themselves are on planet earth and thus to connect to a machine, the astronauts can pass their consciousness to their respective replicas. From the very beginning, when you are shown this whole process of replication and transfer of consciousness, you know that things are not going to turn out well in the end. And it is that quickly on planet earth, one of the characters, his family is killed by a group that refers to the Manson family and also destroy his replica and there is no way to make another, although that would be the least of the problems, as the astronaut is logically totally destroyed, so in an act of kindness, the character played by Aaron Paul offers him to use his replica on earth, so that at least he could be distracted a little of everything he lived, since being in a spaceship and having lost everything, since he had nothing left to live for and the argument of this episode tells us that for the survival of these two astronauts is necessary that they are well both physically and mentally. A bit absurd if you think about it, because if one of the astronauts fails, the mission would fail completely, so the most logical thing would have been to send more than two astronauts. But anyway, from that moment on you know that things were not going to have a good ending. This is the most "Black Mirror" episode of this season and although with its nuances and things without much sense, it is the best episode of the season.
Mazey Day
It touches on interesting topics at the beginning about the paparazzi and how this type of work is one of the dirtiest in the film and TV industry, as these people are capable of destroying their lives to get the scoop on some artists and reach the point where violating the privacy of these people is something that is easy for them (the paparazzi). So from the beginning we are presented as a woman who works as a paparazi realizes that maybe this job is not something she really likes, but she needs the money, so she focuses on the search for an actress who is missing after having run over "something" at night and although this is something that no one else knows, only the actress, the simple fact of her disappearance is something that activates the alert of the paparazzi and that is why they are paying a large sum of money to the one who finds her and takes pictures of her. While I said that at the beginning this episode was fine, it then took a totally stupid plot twist, showing us that "it" that ran over the actress was a "werewolf" and that it had also bitten her, turning her into a "werewolf". When I saw this stupid and senseless plot twist, I could only remember that episode of The Simpsons where Homer ran over Ned and it turned out to be a werewolf. Mazey Day, is without a doubt the worst episode of this season and once again, it has nothing to do with Black Mirror.
Demon 79
The last episode of this season I must admit I was somewhat entertained, although again I must say: This has nothing to do with Black Mirror. This episode focuses on a woman who finds a talisman containing a demon which tells her that she must kill the three people in three different days or else the world will end. So the whole episode is a constant moral struggle to kill three people to save thousands or not to do so and create the apocalypse. The episode plays with the protagonist's perspective and with ourselves, the viewer, as we doubt whether what she is seeing is real or just a figment of her imagination. It is really a good episode, visually very good and with certain touches of comedy, although it has nothing to do with Black Mirror and I will not get tired of saying it.
Luego de unos cuantos años vuelve una de las series que se enfoca en el mal uso de la tecnología Black Mirror y luego de una quinta temporada, la cual, a pesar de tener algunos episodios buenos, en general no fue un temporada tan buena como las anteriores, es por eso que pensé que para esta 6ta temporada habrían aprendido de sus errores y harían una mejor temporada, pero no fue así y es que la más reciente temporada de Black Mirror es la que más se aleja del concepto por el que esta serie es reconocida: La tecnología, de los cinco episodios que consistió esta 6ta temporada tan solo dos episodios se enfocaron en el uso de la tecnología y de la actualidad, los otros episodios, aunque no voy a mentir, estuvieron entretenidos, al final parecieran que fueron guiones de cualquier cosa menos de Black Mirror y que tan solo usaron ideas que habían tenido guardadas para otras series y la metieron en esta temporada. Esta 6ta temporada, en lo personal fue bastante decepcionante, tan solo me gustaron dos de los cinco episodios y aunque como ya dije anteriormente, en sí, esos episodios que se alejan de lo que representa la serie no están del todo mal, pero están totalmente alejados de la esencia Black Mirror.
Joan Is Awful
Es el primer episodio de esta 6ta temporada y junto con el tercero episodio son los únicos que se enfocan en si en la tecnología. Este primer episodio trata sobre la vida de Joan, la cual es una mujer que vive su aburrida vida con un hombre que realmente no quiere. Pero todo en su cambia radicalmente cuando una noche que está viendo la televisión con su novio y empiezan a buscar algo que ver en lo que sería una aplicación parodia de Netflix (Netflix parodiándose a si mismo) encuentran que hay una serie llamada “Joan Is Awful”, la cual sería una serie enfocaba en la vida de la protagonista de este episodio, es decir Joan, por lo que esto lógicamente confunde a Joan al ver que todo lo que está pasando en ese episodio fueron cosas que le sucedieron ese mismo día, incluso, mostrando cosas que le sucedieron minutos antes, todo muy raro tanto para ella como para todos sus conocidos que también están viendo ese episodio. En sí, este es un clásico episodio de Black Mirror, donde Netflix en sí, se parodia así mismo. Este episodio en si es parecido a lo visto en la película “The Truman Show”, pero con otro enfoque. La pérdida de la privacidad por medio de la redes sociales es uno de los enfoques de este episodio y además, también se enfoca en como los Términos de Uso que aceptamos de distintas aplicaciones pueden ser usados de la forma en que lo queremos, todo desde un aspecto muy exagerado, como siempre lo enfoca Black Mirror, pero entendible. El final de esta serie y como se desenvuelve todo lo referido a la creación de la serie basada en Joan, al final era algo que me esperaba, ya que trata sobre simulaciones de diferentes niveles.
Loch Henry
Aunque este episodio fue bueno, con muchas matices y con muchas conveniencias, en términos generales, es un capitulo decente, pero esto no tiene nada que ver con lo que planteaba Black Mirror con el uso de la tecnología. En términos generales, este episodio trata sobre como una pareja planea hacer un documental sobre un tipo y unos huevos o algo así, la verdad es que es irrelevante, el punto es que dicho documental es muy aburrido y la novia del protagonista no estaba tan de acuerdo en hacerlo. La pareja al volver al pueblo natal del protagonista a visitar a su madre, le hace saber a su novia y ella misma se da cuenta que ese es un pueblo fantasma y él le explica que hace unos años hubo una serie de asesinatos con lo cual mató por completo el turismo en ese pueblo, por lo que todo está solo y vacío. La novia del protagonista al enterarse de dicho suceso lo convence de en lugar de hacer un aburrido documental de un tipo y unos huevos, que mejor lo hicieran sobre ese asesino serial y que además, sería algo representativo para él ya que su padre estuvo involucrado en el arresto de dicho asesino. Durante casi todo el episodio están e enfocados en la realización e investigación de este suceso, pero llega un punto donde la serie da entender los verdaderos causantes de dichos asesinatos y es que desde ese momento es algo que se torna muy obvio y al final pierde toda la sorpresa ya que no fueron muy sutiles en dar las pistas. Este episodio inicio bastante entretenido, pero luego hubieron demasiadas cosas obvias y conveniencias que arruinaron los momentos finales, pero lo más importa es que nada de lo que pasó en este episodio tiene que ver con Black Mirror y creo que esta frase es algo que voy a repetir un par de veces más.
Beyond The Sea
Es el episodio que más se podría decir que mantiene la esencia de Black Mirror y además este episodio es el que más ganas tenia de mirar ya que Aaron Paul, conocido por haber actuado en Breaking Bad, iba a protagonizar este episodio y no sería la primera vez que este actor “aparece” en Black Mirror, ya que en un episodio de hace algunas temporadas, hace un pequeño cameo interpretando por unos instantes la voz de un “personaje”, un papel muy pequeño pero estuvo cómico. Beyond The Sea se centra en un dúo de astronautas que se encuentran viajando en el espacio para probar la resistencia y la supervivencia de humanos en este ambiente, ellos se encuentran en una nave que está a miles de kilómetros del planeta tierra, pero pueden mantener contacto con sus familias por medio de unas réplicas de ellos mismos se encuentran en el planeta tierra y de esta forma al conectarse a una máquina, los astronautas podrán pasar su conciencia a sus respectivas replicas. Ya desde un inicio cuando te muestran todo este proceso de réplica y traspaso de conciencia, sabes que las cosas al final no van a salir bien. Y es que rápidamente en el planeta tierra, a uno de los personajes su familia es asesinada por un grupo que hace referencia a la familia Manson y además, también le destruyen a su réplica y no hay forma de hacerle otra, aunque ese sería el menor de los problemas, ya que el astronauta lógicamente se encuentra totalmente destruido, por lo que en un acto de amabilidad, el personaje interpretado por Aaron Paul le ofrece usar su réplica en la tierra, para que al menos pudiera distraerse un poco de todo lo que vivió, ya que al estar en una nave espacial y al haber perdido todo, ya que no le quedaba más por lo que vivir y el argumento de esta episodio nos dice que para la supervivencia de estos dos astronautas es necesario que están bien tanto físicamente como mentalmente. Un poco absurdo si se ponen a pensar ya que, al fallar uno de los astronautas la misión fracasaría por completo, por lo que lo más lógico hubiese sido haber enviado a más de dos astronautas. Pero en fin, desde ese momento ya sabes que las cosas no iban a tener un buen final. Este es el episodio más “Black Mirror” de esta temporada y aunque con sus matices y cosas sin mucho sentido, es el mejor episodio de la temporada.
Mazey Day
Toca temas interesantes en un inicio sobre los paparazi y como esto tipo de trabajo es uno de los más sucios de la industria del cine y la tv, ya que estas personas por tener la primicia sobre algún artistas son capaces de destruir sus vidas y llegar al punto donde violentar la privacidad de estas personas es algo que para ellos (los paparazi) es fácil. Por lo que desde un inicio se nos presenta como una mujer la cual trabaja como paparazi se percata que quizás este trabajo no sea algo que realmente le guste, pero necesita el dinero, por lo que se enfoca en la búsqueda de una actriz la cual se encuentra desaparecida luego de haber atropellado a “algo” en una noche y aunque esto es algo que nadie más sabe, tanto solo la actriz, el simple hecho de su desaparición es algo que activo las alerta de los paparazi y por eso se está pagando una gran suma de dinero al que la encuentre y le tome fotos. Si bien dije que en un inicio este episodio estaba bien, luego dio un giro de trama totalmente estúpido, al mostrarnos que “eso” que atropello la actriz era “hombre lobo” y que además, la había mordido convirtiéndole a ella en una “mujer lobo”. Yo al ver este giro de trama tan estúpido y sin sentido, tan solo pude recordar aquel episodio de Los Simpsons donde Homero atropella a Ned y resulta ser un hombre lobo. Mazey Day, es sin duda el peor episodio de esta temporada y una vez más, no tiene nada que ver con Black Mirror.
Demon 79
El último episodio de esta temporada debo admitir que me entretuvo un poco, aunque nuevamente debo decir que: Esto no tiene nada que ver con Black Mirror. Este episodio se enfoca un una mujer que encuentra un talismán que contiene un demonio el cual le dice que debe matar a las tres personas en tres distintos días o si no se acaba el mundo. Por lo que todo el episodio es una constante lucha moral por matar a tres personas para salvar miles o no hacerlo y crear el apocalipsis. El episodio juega con la perspectiva de la protagonista y con nosotros mismos, el espectador, al dudar sobre si lo que está viendo ella es real o solo un producto de su imaginación. Es realmente un buen episodio, visualmente muy bueno y con ciertos toques de comedia, aunque no tiene nada que ver con Black Mirror y no me cansaré de decirlo.
Solo he visto los dos primeros capítulos de la serie, ciertamente no han Sido lo suficientemente sorprendentes para decir "ESTO ES BLACK MIRROR" pero si hay sutilezas, el segundo capítulo, me recuerda un poco al primero de la primera temporada, porque al final del cap, te muestran como eres capaz de venderte para obtener fama y dinero. Creo que es giro al final, es lo que hace que sea un capítulo de Black mirror, aunque nos mantengan una hora en lo que parece ser un capítulo de otra serie.

Tienes razón sobre que solo dos parecen totalmente del universo Black Mirror, mi preferido fue Joan es horrible.
Aunque varios se alejan de la tecnología, tienen como mensaje las acciones que hoy en día tomamos como sociedad desensibilizada, y es fuerte el mensaje también. Recuerdo el capítulo (pero no recuerdo el nombre del capítulo) donde un Primer Ministro fue obligado a tener sexo con un cerdo para salvar a una chica, no tuvo los elementos de tecnología que esperamos de la serie, pero si mostró lo feo de una sociedad de consumo digital.

Eso es cierto, el primer episodio de la temporada de Black Mirror, mas que enfocarse en la tecnologia, se enfocaba en la sociedad, pero al ser el primer episodio de toda la serie, aun no sabiamos como iba a enfocarse la serie en el futuro, es por eso que se podria decir que no está mal-
Al fin, después de vivir una temporada completa de Black Mirror en la realidad, trajeron nueva serie. Espero verla pronto, aún no me dan ganas, no quiero verla y no disfrutrarla.
Mazey Day might be one of the worst episodes that Black Mirror has ever done. I am like you in that I have seriously enjoyed the series in the past but feel as though they are losing their way. Mazey Day doesn't even make sense as a story at all. Werewolf? What? When? How? Did the car crash turn her into a werewolf? This isn't a surprise so much as it is just stupid.
I suppose the only thing that I found interesting about this was that even at the very end the Paparazzi were only interested in benefitting themselves, even in the final moments of the episode.
I agree that episode was embarrassingly bad and felt like I'd just wasted 40 minutes of my life.
Mazey Day felt like an episode of anything but Black Mirror. The whole werewolf theme was pulled out of thin air.
I have to agree that this season is departing from what made Black Mirror such a success in the first place. The first episode is by far the best with its view of a dystopian future where AI is used to make cheap TV out of ordinary people's lives without their 'consent'. The other sci fi episode was very disappointing and didn't make much sense and was almost like like a romantic drama not Black Mirror material at all. The werewolf episode was just embarrassing. Maybe it is time to call it a day on this ground breaking show.
The werewolf episode was interesting at the beginning, but that plot twist where the actress becomes the "werewolf" is one of the most nonsensical things I've seen this week.
