The movie I'm going to tell you about today is called Secretariat, a 2010 film directed by Randall Wallace. I must say that I have seen a few horse racing movies based on real events. This movie reminds me a lot of Soul of Heroes, which is also known as Seabiscuit, two productions that are a pleasure to watch and that I personally enjoyed a lot and in this review I am going to tell you the reasons, my personal opinion according to the experience of watching Secretariat

La película de la cual les voy a hablar hoy, se llama Secretariat, un filme de 2010 dirigido por Randall Wallace. Debo decir que he visto algunas películas de carreras de caballos basados en hechos reales. Esta película me hace recordar bastante a Alma de héroes, que también es conocido como Seabiscuit, dos producciones que da gusto ver y que en lo personal las difruté mucho y en esta reseña les voy a contar las razones, mi opinión personal de acuerdo a la experiencia vivida al ver Secretariat.

What is the plot of this movie? The story tells us about Penny Chenery, a housewife who was the daughter of two people who had a farm where they raised horses for racing. Her father's illness, plus the death of her mother, left her to take care of everything. That is where the horse called Big Red comes in, who was known as Secretariat for the competitions. The horse was really imposing in the races, although it was also underestimated, since it was considered a fast colt, but not capable of enduring long distances, surprising half the world.

¿Cuál es la trama de esta película? La historia nos habla de Penny Chenery, una ama de casa quien era hija de dos personas que tenían una granja donde criaban caballos para carreras. El padre de esta enferma, más el fallecimiento de su madre, hace que esta se tenga que encargar de todo. Allí es donde entra el caballo llamado Gran Rojo, quien para las competencias era conocido como Secretariat. El caballo era realmente imponente en las carreras, aunque también era subestimado, ya que se consideraba un potro rápido, más no capaz de aguantar para distancias largas, sorprendiendo a medio mundo.

Like her horse, Big Red, Penny was ostracized just for being a woman, for being a housewife, even by her own husband. But with her love of horses and racing, she set out to prove to everyone that she, like Secretariat, could surprise and achieve great things in horsemanship. This character is one of my favorites, as she is tenacious, a strong person who can be considered arrogant, but the reality is that she is a good person, who does not give up in the face of adversity and who wants to carry on her parents' legacy to the very end.

Al igual que su caballo Gran Rojo, Penny era relegada tan solo por ser mujer, por ser ama de cada, incluso por su propio esposo. Pero el amor por el caballo y las carreras, se propuso demostrarles a todo, que tanto ella, como Secretariat, podrían sorprender y lograr grandes cosas dentro del hipismo. Este personaje es de mis favoritos, ya que es tenaz, una persona fuerte que puede ser considerada arrogante, pero la realidad es que es una buena persona, que no se rinde con la adversidad y que quiere continuar con el legado de sus padres hasta el último momento.

This story is based on true events, it tells us a great story of self-improvement, where a woman knew how to stand out in a world where men were the ones who always thought they were right, but Penny and Secretariar proved otherwise. I must say that the road was not easy for what this woman and her horse achieved, but she never gave up, no matter how judged she could be even by her husband, but she also had the support of people who were in her childhood and who knew she was a great person just like her parents. Also Penny teaches us that it is not all about money, but also about values and following the dreams and legacy of the people we love.

Esta historia es basada en hechos reales, nos cuenta una gran historia de una superación personal, donde una mujer supo sobresalir en un mundo donde los hombres eran los que siempre creían tener la razón, pero Penny y Secretariar demostró lo contrario. Debo decir que el camino no fue fácil para lo que logró esta mujer y su caballo, pero nunca se rindió, sin importar lo juzgada que pudo ser incluso por su esposo, pero también tuvo el apoyo de personas que estuvieron en su infancia y que sabía que era una gran persona al igual que sus padres. También Penny nos enseña que no todo es el dinero, sino que también los valores y seguir con los sueños y el legado de las personas que queremos.

Lucien was French Canadian, a very particular character, but what is true is that he was a trainer who was also underappreciated in the world of horsemanship, they did not believe that he could form a winning horse and he had failed in several attempts with foals that wanted to obtain the epic achievement of obtaining the triple crown, something that very few have achieved in the United States horsemanship and more as he did.

Pero este camino hasta el éxito no se recorrió solo, sino que Penny tuvo una gran ayuda y esta fue de parte Lucien Laurin quien era un entrenador de caballos para carreras. Lucien era franco canadiense, un personaje bastante particular, pero lo que sí es que era un entrenador que también era menospreciado en el mundo del hipismo, no creían que podría formar un caballo ganador y es que este había fracaso en varios intentos con potros que quería obtener el épico logro de obtener la triple corona, algo que muy pocos han logrado en el hipismo de los Estados Unidos y más como lo hizo.

Secretariat is a movie that has a great story, almost two hours that we won't want to miss anything and more for those who don't know the story or the ending, although we may have an idea. That's where director Randall Wallace and screenwriter Mike Rich come in, who knew how to keep my attention and who I can tell you that the plot even for those of us who have heard of the achievements of Big Red and Penny, the movie showed many moments of uncertainty and suspense of what could happen ahead and at times we can get to surprise the outcome. The truth is a story that captured my attention from minute one, from the beginning of the film to the end.

Secretariat es una película que tiene una gran historia, casi dos horas que no querremos perdernos de nada y más para aquellos que no conocen la historia o al final, aunque podemos tener una idea. Allí es donde entrar el director Randall Wallace y el guionista Mike Rich, quienes supieron mantener la atención de mi persona y quien les puedo decir que la trama incluso para aquellos que hayamos escuchado de los logros de Gran Rojo y Penny, la película mostraba muchos momentos de incertidumbre y suspense de lo podría ocurrir adelante y por momentos nos puede llegar a sorprender el resultado. La verdad es una historia que captó toda mi atención desde el minuto uno, con el comienzo del filme y hasta el final del mismo.

The cast of the film I think was just right, both Diane Lane as Penny and John Malkovich as Lucien did a great job with their characters, they conveyed everything I wanted to give of these characters, especially Penny who was a strong woman, but the reality is that at times she was about to collapse and believing that she could not go ahead with the dream of her parents and that she had inherited since she was very young, only that she left this behind for her family. The cast is quite complete, both with the main characters, as well as the secondary ones.

El cast de la película creo que fue el adecuado, tanto Diane Lane como Penny y John Malkovich como Lucien hicieron un magnífico trabajo con sus personajes, trasmitieron todo lo que quería dar de estos personajes, sobre todo Penny quien era una mujer fuerte, pero la realidad es que en algunos momentos estuvo a punto de derrumbarse y creyendo que no podía continuar adelante con el sueño de sus padres y que ella había heredado desde muy pequeña, solo que dejó esto atrás por su familia. El reparto es bastante completo, tanto con los personajes principales, como los secundarios.

On the other hand, we have the photography that was in charge of Dean Semler, doing a magnificent job, who together with the direction made great shots, quite good shots of the moment of the race, but one of the crucial moments as it is before the start where the horses are about to leave and fight for the triumph. The soundtrack is another aspect to highlight, where we have very emotional themes, because if not everything is happiness and success. Many of Penny's moments were hard, with several obstacles along the way, but she always managed to get ahead. The musical themes of the saddest moments touch us deeply, even that can bring tears to our eyes, so the goal was achieved in these sections of the film Secretariat.

Por otro lado, tenemos la fotografía que estaba a cargo Dean Semler, haciendo un magnífico trabajo, quien junto a la dirección hicieron grandes tomas, planos bastante buenos del momento de la carrera, pero uno de los momentos cruciales como es antes de la partida donde los caballos están a punto de partir y luchar por el triunfo. La banda sonora es otro aspecto que hay que destacar, donde tenemos temas muy emotivos, porque si no todo es felicidad y éxito. Muchos de los momentos de Penny fueron duros, con varios obstáculos en el camino, pero siempre logró salir adelante. Los temas musicales de los momentos más tristes nos llegan a lo más profundo, incluso que nos puede sacar las lágrimas, por lo que el objetivo fue logrado en estos apartados de la película Secretariat.

Opinión final

Secretariat is a great movie that shows us a great story, where a woman came out ahead of the prejudices and belittling by the people of the equestrian world of that time, simply for being a mistress of each. The most relevant is Penny and the great connection she had with Big Red, her horse, without leaving aside her trainer Lucien. Highlight the work of the director, who knew how to capture my tension from the beginning of the film, that even though I could imagine what would happen, always kept the suspense of what I had, with a great ending, full of much emotion. The cinematography and soundtrack are so outstanding that we are immersed inside the story and enjoy every moment.

Opinión final

Secretariat es una gran película que nos muestra una gran historia, donde una mujer salió adelante de los prejuicios y menosprecios por parte de las personas del mundo del hipismo de ese entonces, simplemente por ser una ama de cada. Lo más relevante es que es Penny y la gran conexión que tuvo con Gran Rojo, su caballo, sin dejar a un lado a su el entrenador Lucien. Destacar la labor del director, quien supo captar mi tensión desde el inicio de la película, que a pesar de que me podía imaginar lo que sucedería, siempre mantuvo el suspense de lo que tenía, con un gran final, lleno de mucha emoción. La fotografía y la banda sonora son tan destacadas que nos sumergimos dentro de la historia y disfrutamos cada momento.

Secretariat is a movie that I recommend 100%, even if this is not one of your favorite genres. 10/10 is the score I would give the film, where I must remember that this is according to my personal experience. The comments are simply from a viewer and not a professional review.

Secretariat es una película que se las recomiendo al 100%, incluso si este no es uno de tus géneros favoritos. 10/10 es la puntuación que le daría al filme, donde debo recordar que esto de acuerdo a mi experiencia personal.
