Midway: Battle in the Pacific (2019) [ENG-ESP]

Continuing in the wave of the films of the war genre and based on real events, this time I bring you a movie of 2019 called Midway: Battle in the Pacific. This film shows us one of the most important battles of World War II in the Pacific, where the Japanese and Americans faced each other, where for the first time there was an aircraft carrier battle. Undoubtedly we are in the presence of a very good movie that is worth watching and today I am going to tell you my opinion of each of the aspects of the film, according to my personal experience.

Continuando en la onda de las cintas del género bélico y basadas en hechos reales, en esta oportunidad les traigo una película del 2019 llamada Midway: Batalla en el Pacífico. Esta película nos muestra una de las batallas más importantes de la Segunda Guerra Mundial en el Pacífico, donde los japoneses y estadounidense se enfrentaban, donde por primera vez había una batalla de portaaviones. Sin lugar a dudas estamos en presencia de una muy buena película que vale la pena ver y hoy les voy a contar mi opinión de cada uno de los aspectos del filme, de acuerdo a mi experiencia personal.

The story of this movie focuses on the U.S. Navy of 1942 and how in World War II it managed to confront the empire of Japan, who at the time had great military power. When I saw the movie I realized that the story was centered on one of the best airplane pilots that the navy had at that time, Lieutenant Dick Best, who is one of those who directs the attacks on enemy aircraft carriers, being the only one to destroy two of these ships in one day. Best is a pilot who can be considered conceited, but has a great talent for war aircraft, despite wanting to appear that way of being, is a person who cares about others, for those who accompany them in the moments where he may not return alive.

La historia de esta película se centra en la marina de los Estados Unidos de 1942 y como en la Segunda Guerra Mundial logró enfrentar al imperio de Japón, quienes en su momento tenía un gran poder militar. Al ver la película me di cuenta de que la historia estaba centrada en uno de los mejores pilotos de avión que tenía la marina en ese momento, el teniente Dick Best, quien es uno de los que dirige los ataques a los portaaviones enemigos, siendo el único en lograr destruir a dos de estos navíos en un mismo día. Best es un piloto que puede ser considera engreído, pero tiene un gran talento para las aeronaves de guerra, a pesar de querer aparentar dicho forma de ser, es una persona que se preocupa por los demás, por quienes los acompañan en los momentos donde quizás no regrese con vida.

We also have Admiral Chester Nimitz who, after the Pearl Harbor attack, was in charge of directing the entire Pacific fleet, a person who had the full confidence of the present of the United States at that time, even he was the one who asked him to be in command. The admiral is a person who came with a very difficult mission which was to confront the Japanese on Midway Island, where the Japanese believed that they would give the last blow, but in reality they were going straight into a trap, after the intelligence of the navy managed to break their code to read most of the transmissions. That is where Edwin Layton comes in, a Navy officer who managed to get ahead of the Japanese Navy's plans and who changed the course of World War II in the Pacific.

También tenemos al Almirante Chester Nimitz quien luego del ataque de Pearl Harbor, fue el encargado de dirigir a toda la flota del Pacífico, una persona quien tenía la plena confianza del presente de los Estados Unidos de ese momento, incluso fue quien pidió que él estuviese al mando. El almirante es una persona que venía con una misión bastante difícil que era enfrentar a los japoneses en la isla Midway, donde los nipones creían que darían la última estocada, pero en realidad iban directamente a una trampa, luego de la inteligencia de la marina lograron romper su código para leer la mayor parte de las transmisiones. Allí es donde entra Edwin Layton, una militar de la marina quien logró adelantarse a los planes de la marina japonesa y quien cambio el rumbo de la Segunda Guerra Mundial en el Pacífico.

We also have other characters that play an important role in the story, although I feel that these three are the most important. That's where I must say that the cast of this movie was very good, I think the performance of the actors was really good, I believed what I was seeing. As I have always said, this kind of movie involves a lot of research work, since it is based on real events and they are playing a role of a person who already exists, who has a personality, although we know that each actor usually gives his touch to the characters. Woody Harrelson was the one who gave life to Admiral Chester Nimitz, doing a great job, but I want to highlight Ed Skrein as Dick Best, doing a great job and being the character that was most shown on screen.

También tenemos otros personajes que juegan un papel importante en la historia, aunque siento que estos tres son los de mayor trascendencia. Allí es donde debo decir que el cast de esta película estuvo muy bueno, creo que la interpretación de los actores fue realmente buena, creía lo que estaba viendo. Como siempre he dicho, esta clase de películas conlleva un gran trabajo de investigación, ya que es basada en hechos reales y están haciendo un papel de una persona que ya existe, que tiene una personalidad, aunque sabemos que cada actor le suele dar su toque a los personajes. Woody Harrelson fue quien le dio vida al Almirante Chester Nimitz, haciendo un gran trabajo, pero quiero destacar a Ed Skrein como Dick Best, haciendo una gran labor y siendo el personaje que más se mostró en pantalla.

We also have the presence in the film of Dennis Quaid as Vice Admiral William “Bull” Halsey, who spent most of the war in the Pacific on the aircraft carrier USS Enterprise and I must say that although he spent very little time on screen, it is also another of my favorite performances, I really like Quaid's work in the productions I have seen where this actor has participated. Also starring in the film are Nick Jonas, Luke Evans and Aaron Eckhart. Speaking of the latter (Aaron Eckhart), who plays the role of James H. Doolittle, who is a colonel in the U.S. Army Air Corps, who carried out a bombing raid on Tokyo, Japan. I like that in the movie Midway we are shown this fact, just as we see in the movie Pearl Harbor, although from Doolittle's point of view.

También tenemos la presencia en la película de Dennis Quaid como Vicealmirante William "Bull" Halsey, quien digirió la mayor parte de la guerra en el Pacífico en el Portaaviones USS Enterprise y debo decir que a pesar de que pasó muy poco tiempo en pantalla, también es otra de mis interpretaciones favoritas, realmente me gusta la labor de Quaid en las producciones que he visto donde ha participado este actor. También el filme participan Nick Jonas, Luke Evans y Aaron Eckhart. Hablando de este último (Aaron Eckhart), quien hace el papel de James H. Doolittle, quien es un coronel de la aviación del ejército de los Estados Unidos, quien realizó un bombardeo a Tokio, Japón. Me gusta que en la película Midway nos muestran este hecho, tal como vemos en la película Pearl Harbor, aunque desde la vista de Doolittle.

Midway's photography is really good. What I liked most about watching this movie was the way it was shot, the scenes look real, like we are really seeing what is being told. That is where I must highlight the scenery, Midway Island, Pearl Harbor and how well represented the planes, the aircraft carriers, without leaving aside how perfect the special effects are in the shots of the artillery of the ships, as well as the aircraft. A great job of the whole team of the film, that is where we see the hand of the production and director Roland Emmerich. The soundtrack is very good, although this passes to the background when we see the story, the moments of action with the different battles and the expectation of what is going to happen.

La fotografía de Midway es realmente buena. Lo que más me gustó de ver esta película fue lo voy realizada del rodaje, las escenas se ven reales, como que realmente estamos viendo lo que se está contando. Allí es donde debo destacar los escenarios, la isla de Midway, Pearl Harbor y lo muy bien representando de los aviones, los portaaviones, sin dejar a un lado lo perfecto que se ve los efectos especiales en los disparos tanto de la artillería de las embarcaciones, como de las aeronaves. Un gran trabajo de todo el equipo de la película, allí es donde vemos la mano de la producción y el director Roland Emmerich. La banda sonora está muy bien, aunque esta pasa a un segundo plano cuando vemos la historia, los momentos de acción con las diferentes batallas y la expectativa de lo que va a pasar.

Midway: The Battle of the Pacific is a movie worth watching from beginning to end, it has a great story of one of the most important events of World War II and how these different battles that are seen, played a relevant role in the outcome of the war. The story is very well represented, it shows us the life in an aircraft carrier, what the pilots go through, the difficulties they face and how many lose their lives to fight for their country, we have good pilots and others who are not so good, but in the end they all fight for the same reason. The film presents the era very well, both in the costumes and the different scenarios. The best part was how they showed the flights of the planes and how they bombed in the missions, plus everything was shown very realistic, including the gunfire.

Midway: La batalla del Pacífico es una película que vale la pena ver de principio a fin, cuenta con una gran historia de uno de los hechos más importante de la Segunda Guerra Mundial y como estas diferentes batallas que se ven, jugaron un papel relevante en el desenlace de la guerra. La historia está muy bien representada, nos muestra la vida en una porta avión, que pasan los pilotos, las dificulta que se les presentan y como muchos pierden la vida por luchar por su país, tenemos buenos pilotos y otros que no tanto, pero al final todos luchan para una misma razón. El filme presenta muy bien la época, tanto en el vestuario, como los diferentes escenarios. Lo mejor fue como mostraron los vuelos de los aviones y como bombardeaban en las misiones, además que todo se mostraba muy realista, incluyendo los disparos.

The cast is another positive point of the movie, with great actors playing most of the main characters. A great movie not to be missed, so I wouldn't hesitate for a second to recommend it, if you are a fan of the genre and if not also, I'm sure you will enjoy the story. The movie is a 10/10.

El cast es otro punto positivo de la película, con grandes actores que interpretaban a la mayoría de los personajes principales. Una gran película que no se pueden perder, así que no dudaría ni un segundo en recomendarla, si eres fanático del género y, sino también, estoy seguro de que disfrutarás de la historia. La película es un 10/10.
