Oodles Of Harvests, Greenhouse Clearout, PDC, Rabbit, Garden Teardown, Freeze Prep - Wednesday

Woke to the frost forecast yesterday morning and it didn't make me very happy. Expected 25F last night, WHICH WAS A LIE! I'll get to that later.

So with that wonderful thought in my head all day I had a ton of work to do. First was to have a go at the cucumbers which I picked all of them with any size.

The row was largely done and the few cucumbers that I would get from now on wouldn't be worth the effort.

IMG_20241009_105108.jpg

So down came the cucumber plants. I snipped all the top lines to let the plants hang from the purlin.

The spider plant had to get transplanted and wow did it have some solid roots on it.

IMG_20241009_110839.jpg

I snipped the bottom of the lines and the stems of the plants then hauled them all out the door to the cart.

The sheep dove into the plants as I piled them in their yard. The birds all found their way in as well.

Then it was time for the tomato plants to get hacked back drastically as I had let them go for too long. All the removed got dumped on the mulch pile as I went to get the mail.

SUPER annoyed at the sprocket set I ordered which took a month to get here was only a single sprocket. Garbage out of china apparently. So I got the refund and get to keep the 13 tooth sprocket which then I ordered the 9 tooth I need which will be here today.

PDC is still on and WOW was there some crazy matches that went down to the last leg and to match darts. 4 more matches today.

I was walking by the greenhouse when I saw this little piece of shit pop out from under my tool shed. I was SOOOOOO annoyed I didn't have my pistol on me. I want it DEAD!

The cabbage all got hacked out and I was able to get about 10 pounds from the last of the plants.

IMG_20241009_142629.jpg

It allowed me to fold in a lot of the plastic.

IMG_20241009_150204.jpg

Irrigation all got shut off and I turned off the line to the valves for the winter.

IMG_20241009_153710.jpg

With the plastic pulled I could coil some of the drip lines.

IMG_20241009_154949.jpg

About half the garden is done but I still have a bunch of potatoes to dig along with the celery and chard still going.

IMG_20241009_154956.jpg

I went ahead and yanked all the peppers off the plants. I got a big tub of Anaheim peppers that weighed in at 9.5 pounds.

IMG_20241009_165855.jpg

Then onto the tomatoes. The paste tomatoes gave me 22 pounds of mostly green which went to the house to ripen.

IMG_20241009_171205.jpg

Then the tub of more slicer style ended up at 30 pounds.

IMG_20241009_173321.jpg

Then the remaining gave me another 22 pounds for about 75 pounds total.

IMG_20241009_175017.jpg

Then the sweet peppers all came out which made for about 5.5 pounds.

IMG_20241009_175618.jpg

I got the heat lam setup and on for the night but at this point it is only for the malabar spinach.

IMG_20241009_180143.jpg

The fireplace parts finally arrived and it will be a bit of a project that I can work on over the next days. Despite my back being torched still I got a few throws in and this was my first. Even in pain my aim is still okay.

The warmth helps for after I get out and can massage my back some.

Today I woke up to it being 34F.... lying ass weather forecasts! I could have let the greenhouse go longer... This is the joys of microclimates.

Will get the boys to school soon, keep working on the garden, dig potatoes, transplant dill and onions to pots, PDC is on, Seahawks play, tomatoes need to go to paper bags to ripen, work on the fireplace, and figure out dinner this evening.
