Squid Game Season 2 Series Review 2024

One of the shows that everyone loved and it became way too viral, just came back with another season. Of course, i am talking about the Squid Game that was released in 2021 and finally in December 2024 and after Christmas season 2 came out. Do you remember the whole fuzz when the first season came out? People dressed like some of the characters like the guards, figures like Funko Pop and such came out, and even games with actual money that resembled the show came out, without the killings though :p.

To tell you the truth i really liked the first season, it's not like it was the best show i have ever seen, there are other Korean series that are way better but i understand the craziness as Korean actors are in my opinion some of the best out there! Let's talk about the plot now and ofc i will try not to reveal a lot of things about season 2 or make a lot of spoilers.

Plot

To begin with, let's talk about season 1 in order to get the full picture. So basically, as you know there are a lot of people in the world that are in debt for various reasons and will be willing to do anything in order to come clean, as their lives are ruined, their family and even themselves are in danger!

So to these desperate people, a well-dressed guy comes up out of nowhere in the metro station, and plays a quick game with them where they earn some money. Then he gives them a card with some info where if they follow and participate there is a chance for bigger earnings.

Ofc desperate people join and end up on remote islands with other participants all wearing the same uniforms that have some numbers on them. Our protagonist Seong Gi-hun is participating as well. There they play some games that resemble children's games but there is a twist. If you lose you die and the rest of the people get the chance to earn more money, 1 billion won per person is the analogy.

In each round, they got a chance through a vote to leave the game and take the money that they have earned so far divided by the number of survivors. Ofc greed is there and is real which shows the true nature of people.

Now in season two, we get to see the only survivor and winner Seong Gi-hun who is desperately searching for the island and a way to get revenge for all those people who died even though he was the sole winner and is now filthy rich. This search leads him to talk with let's say the Front-Man or the boss where he decides to participate again in the games having ofc as a goal and motive to take his revenge, find the rich people that fund these games and put an end once and for all.

What I Liked and What I Didn't

First of all i really liked that i saw a different side of the protagonist which means character development! This is quite interesting as he started out as a desperate man and became a furious one dedicated to taking revenge. Also, i really liked all the cast as their acting is spot on. Honestly, there wasn't a single actor in the series that was meh. Everyone played their part and did it in an awesome way.

Another thing that i really liked was the new games. At first, like everyone i guess, i thought that the games would be the same and they started with one that we loved in the first season leading as to believe that we gonna see again the same ones. Turns out the rest of them were different following the same path, that of the "children's games".

Last but not least, i liked what they did with the Front-Man but i won't reveal more info, it's better to see for yourselves. The only thing that i didn't like was that the second season had only 7 episodes. It felt like they did it on purpose to leave it at a certain point in order for the 3rd season to come out during 2025. Overall, it's a solid 8.5 for me and if the 3rd season has a unique plot twist i could easily increase my rating to 9 or 9.5/10!
