Slow Horses Series Review

I am at this point that i have seen most of the good series out there and i am constantly looking for new ones. The same applies to anime and manga as well. In a way, it can be a bit frustrating as let's say 1 season of a series may take 1 year to be released and i can watch it in 1 day. On the other hand, though we live in an era where we constantly see new series/movies/anime popping out so things are actually better and it's just me whining a bit!.

Now, i really enjoy series with spies and stuff like that, especially the Blacklist for example was a great one, i hated the ending though. The only ones i don't really like are the NSCI, CSI Miami and all the relevant shows. There is no actual plot and those series are pretty boring. To my surprise though i discovered another series that's called Slow Horses.

Slow Horser is a spy/thriller series from Apple TV+ that aired on April 01/2022. There are 2 seasons already 6 episodes each, around 50 minutes per episode, and currently, 2 episodes are out of season 3. This season will also have 3 episodes. To tell you the truth i did not plan to watch this, the only reason i tried it out was Gary Oldman and i can now say with certainty that it was a wise decision.

Plot

The story is set in London and revolves around MI5, which is the British intelligence. The protagonist is River Cartwright a young agent who due to a mistake is being punished by working on the Slough House. The Slough House is basically a part of the MI5 where all the "losers" end up. If you make a mistake as an agent, say a racist joke or the head of the department hates you, you will be sent there.

The Slough House is run by Jackson Lamb (Gary Oldman) a veteran agent who constantly makes fun of his agents, forces them to do chores and simplistic tasks and then makes fun of them again. He seems bored with no motivation or goals but when an actual big case arrives he turns to a different man!

In general, the show is quite average in my eyes. The acting is mediocre, each case doesn't present much of a mystery but what makes this series from average to good is Gary Oldman. The guy is a magnificent actor, when he fools around you laugh and when he gets serious you anxiously wait for his next move. Only for him, the show deserves a change and won't disappoint!
