Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 Review
The last 2 weeks I watched a lot of movies and to my surprise, some of them were actually quite good. I genuinely like superhero movies and series even though I don’t read any comics nor do I know the lore. I only know the lore presented through the movies and shows which actually is very different from the comic books, at least according to some of my friends that are hardcore Marvel or DC fans.
There is somewhat of a tradition that is going on these past years and that is to go to the cinema and watch most of the Marvel and DC films that are coming out. I think throughout all these years I may have missed 2-3 in total and that was because I knew I would not gonna enjoy it. Anyway, so I went and watch Guardians of the Galaxy 3.
The first one was absolutely amazing, the second movie was so-so but still entertaining and also considering the last Marvel Movies I thought this one would be at best a mediocre Marvel movie as well. Boy, I was so wrong.
Plot
There will be some minor spoilers ahead so if you haven’t watched the last 2 Guardian of the Galaxy movies, please do not proceed further. So the journey starts at Knowhere, a community that lives freely in a head of a dead celestial. In the community, the Guardians live as well and are the sole protectors of that community as well. Gamora is missing, presumably dead and of course Star-Lord can’t move on and still grieving.
A sudden attack alerts everyone from a single and powerful being later known as Adam Warlock who managed to leave Rocket at a critical condition. While the team is trying to save him they realize that he was part of an experiment and that they need certain data in order to save his life.
Meanwhile, we get to see Rocket “reliving” his journey and we as viewers are watching his actual backstory on how he became the Raccoon we all love. Basically, the High Evolutionary a being with high intellect that has a god complex that wants to create the perfect society had actually started experiments on animals.
Throughout his experiments, he managed to create Rocket a raccoon who had the ability to talk and also had high intellect and could solve problems that even the High Evolutionary could not. Rocket was held along with some other animals deemed as failed experiments but Rocket became friends with these animals and had strong ties. When the High Evolutionary decided that he only needed Rocket’s brain and that all the other animals should be killed Rocket made an escape attempt that lead to the death of all the other animals.
At the same time, we see the Guardians trying to help their friend survive but at the same time we see some character development in each one of them which is quite cool and it was necessary as some of these actors won’t continue in the movies so they need to have a good reason to have a good exit.
All in all, even though the movie was over 2 hours long, time passed quickly and you never got bored. The action scenes were amazing, we had a lot of years to see Marvel having a good fight scene, followed by sad dialogs about the experiments on animals for example, followed by funny moments. That was basically the loop until the movie ended but I don’t know if they managed to do it perfectly.
Conclusion
I tried not to do much spoilers and I strongly believe that the movie was one of the best Marvel had at least in 2022-2023. Everything was quite good and I honestly don’t have something negative to say, only that I wanted more. I feel a bit sad that some actors decided not to renew their contracts but in general, there are tons of superheroes and scripts as well as the cast needs to evolve and reach new heights. Overall, I would give a 9/10 and I would suggest to all of you that like films like that to definitely go and watch it!
Strictly speaking, 'Guardians of the Galaxy' works because it is the story of a child, who in order to overcome a terrible trauma (first five minutes of the first film) literally takes refuge in a fantasy world, with walkmans, raccoons and talking trees.
The second is fixated on a theme, that of the father, to be emancipated from or accepted, as every child must do when growing up. The third is the story works because it closes the circle, the child grows up and Gunn (à la Spielberg) tells us that to do so, there comes a time when melancholy must be left behind.
The film did not disappoint my expectations and I fully agree with your review.
