If you like some good old mysteries then you definitely have to read Agatha Christie. She is one of the best authors out there in terms of mystery novels. One of the main characters in her novels is Detective Hercules Poirot who basically cracks down all the cases. The movie that was released in 2023 is another mystery with Hercules Poirot being the lead!

Plot

After world war 2 Hercules Poirot retired to Venice and is living his life without taking new cases even though a lot of people try to convince him to take upon their cases. Ariadne Oliver a popular writer comes to visit Hercules offering him an one of a one-time opportunity, to take part in seance where an actual medium will summon the dead let's say.

Even though Hercules doesn't believe in all of that he simply visits because of her friend. The seance takes place in an old orphanage during Halloween. Supposedly, kids have died here and also the daughter of the current owner has died as well and they will try to summon her spirit. Some events took place and the Medium ended up dead. Now Hercules Poirot will try to uncover the case and discover the real culprit and murderer!

What I Liked and What I Didn't

Starting with the whole Venice set i dare to say that they did a pretty good job. The atmosphere is amazing and literally, Venice seemed more beautiful than if you go and visit now. in general i have read mixed reviews for Kenneth Branagh (the actor that portrays Hercules Poirot) but honestly i really liked him so i don't have any negatives to say about his acting. The same applies to the cast as well.

The mystery element is there as well as the interesting solutions and clues but that's to be expected as we talk about Agatha Christie. Now i had one issue with the movie which i can't really express 100% but i believe you will get what i mean.

Having read a lot of mystery books from Agatha Christie and also watching some related movies i realized that the vibe is way different. I have read other novels like Lord of the Rings for example where i equally like the movies. That doesn't apply here, it's like something is missing. The whole mystery element and anticipation that you have reading the book is nowhere close to simply watching the movie.

Also, reading the books almost everytime i can't say who the culprit is but after half an hour of watching the movie i could easily tell. Overall it's a decent movie, a straight 6.5-7/10 if you ask me. I would definitely suggest reading the books though!
