Extracurricular, a teen series for adults

While browsing through those Korean series that Netflix has made available, I came across this one, which I read was subsequently banned in Korea due to the content of its episodes.

It's actually a miniseries of only 10 episodes and at first I thought it would be just another teen drama but it has some very heavy stuff in it.

The plot is about a model high school student who looks like a normal kid but actually leads a double life, the darkest of which is the fact that he runs a prostitution ring to make money.

From the very first episode you are hooked, you get into the dark atmosphere that this guy manages.

What struck me most is that despite dealing with very adult themes, it also gives importance to the personal relationships and moral dilemmas of the protagonists.

It is noticeable that the scriptwriter Jin Han shows something less conventional and that the dynamic of the series is making him grow up.

The youthful cast led by Kim Dong-hee is very successful, conveying insecurities and concerns in a natural way. And the main villain played by the mobster is creepy, he seems to come from real life.

This is not your typical teen series. It's action-packed, suspenseful and leaves you wondering what will happen. It also raises deeper reflections on social pressure. Highly recommended if you're in the mood for something different.
