La historia sigue a Peter Parker, un joven inteligente pero muy tímido, cuya vida dará un gran cambio a causa de la mordida de una araña que le dará grandes habilidades y deberá decidir qué hacer con ese poder.

Actualmente estamos acostumbrados a las películas de superhéroes, pero hace poco más de 20 años eran muy pocas las producciones que adaptaban a estos personajes tan icónicos a live action, antes de la llegada de Iron man de Jon Favreau o de Batman inicia de Christopher Nolan y poco después de X – men de Bryan Singer, el 3 de Mayo de 2002 llegaría Spider- man de Sam Reimi.

Está cinta fue la más taquillera de ese año, mundialmente quedó en tercer lugar detrás de El Señor De Los Anillos: Las Dos Torres y Harry Potter: La Cámara Secreta, logro volverse una de las diez películas más taquilleras de toda la historia.

Cómo dije antes, las cintas de superhéroes eran algo más inusual en aquellos años, pero rápidamente atrajo al público al adaptar a uno de los personajes más icónicos de Marvel. Cómo toda adaptación se toma ciertas libertades creativas, que quedaron muy bien y se apegan a la esencia de la historieta y sus personajes.

Aunque pudimos tener algo distinto, hubo varias opciones antes de Raimi, como James Cameron que buscaba hacer un argumento aún más realista, lo cierto es que incluso hoy sigue siendo una película que impresiona con su trama y muy buenos efectos especiales en su mayoría prácticos, pero también hay algunos fallos digitales más que todo por lo limitada que era tecnología de ese entonces la rivalidad entre Spider - man y el Duende Verde está muy bien llevada aunque dura muy poco en pantalla, pero igual queda bien. La banda sonora compuesta por Dany Elfman combina perfectamente con la película, cada melodía es única y sigue causando el mismo efecto sin importar cuantas veces la oiga.

Cuando se buscaba que actor encarnaría al icónico héroe se consideró a Leonardo DiCaprio, Heath Ledger, Ewan MacGregor y James Franco (quien termino siendo Harry Osborn), pero se terminó eligiendo a Tobey Maguire quien aunque no tiene un gran carisma como Spidey, si logró ser un gran Peter Parker, es muy difícil lograr esa dualidad, pero considero que fue una muy buena elección para esta producción.

En cuanto al resto del elenco voy a empezar con que Kirsten Dunst es una pesima Mary Jane Watson, simplemente el personaje es vacío y molesto a medida que avanza la saga, aunque en la primera no es tan mal personaje, solo empeora en las entregas siguientes, no es culpa de la actriz, solo que le dieron un personaje mal escrito.

William Dafoe como Norman Osborne/Duende Verde es perfecto en su actuación, lo único que no me gusta totalmente es su traje, no es malo pero hubiera preferido algo más apegado al comic, que terminaría ocurriendo años después, pero esa es otra historia.

J.K Simons como J.J Jameson es igual de perfecto, nació para ese papel, el icónico jefe del Daily Bugle y enemigo jurado de Spider – man logra que cada una de sus escenas sea memorable, el carisma y mal genio son calcadas de los comics y las caricaturas, con el toque personal del actor.

En conclusión, una película cuyos aciertos superan a sus fallos, que ha dejado su marca en la memoria de los fanáticos del trepa muros, y que sería uno de los pilares que dio lugar a posteriores estrenos de películas y series de superhéroes.

Nowadays we are used to superhero movies, but a little more than 20 years ago there were very few productions that adapted these iconic characters to live action, before the arrival of Jon Favreau's Iron Man or Christopher Nolan's Batman and shortly after Bryan Singer's X-Men, on May 3, 2002, Sam Reimi's Spider-Man arrived.

This film was the highest grossing movie of that year, in third place worldwide behind The Lord Of The Rings: The Two Towers and Harry Potter: Chamber of Secrets, it became one of the ten highest grossing films in history.

As I said before, superhero movies were something more unusual in those years, but it quickly attracted audiences by adapting one of Marvel's most iconic characters. Like any adaptation it takes certain creative liberties, which were very well done and stick to the essence of the comic book and its characters.

Although we could have something different, there were several options before Raimi, as James Cameron who sought to make an even more realistic argument, the truth is that even today is still a film that impresses with its plot and very good special effects mostly practical, but there are also some digital failures mostly because of the limited technology of that time the rivalry between Spider - man and the Green Goblin is very well carried although it lasts very little on screen, but still looks good. The soundtrack composed by Dany Elfman combines perfectly with the film, each melody is unique and continues to cause the same effect no matter how many times you hear it.

When looking for an actor to play the iconic hero, Leonardo DiCaprio, Heath Ledger, Ewan MacGregor and James Franco (who ended up being Harry Osborn) were considered, but they ended up choosing Tobey Maguire who although he does not have a great charisma as Spidey, he did manage to be a great Peter Parker, it is very difficult to achieve that duality, but I think it was a very good choice for this production.

As for the rest of the cast I will start with that Kirsten Dunst is a lousy Mary Jane Watson, simply the character is empty and annoying as the saga progresses, although in the first one is not so bad character, it only gets worse in the following installments, it is not the fault of the actress, just that they gave her a poorly written character.

William Dafoe as Norman Osborne/Green Goblin is perfect in his performance, the only thing I don't totally like is his costume, it's not bad but I would have preferred something more attached to the comic book, which would end up happening years later, but that's another story.

J.K. Simons as J.J. Jameson is just as perfect, he was born for the role, the iconic head of the Daily Bugle and sworn enemy of Spider-man makes each of his scenes memorable, the charisma and temper are traced from the comics and cartoons, with the actor's personal touch.

In conclusion, a film whose successes outweigh its failures, which has left its mark in the memory of fans of the wall-crawler, and that would be one of the pillars that gave rise to subsequent releases of superhero films and series.
