Guillermo Del Toro´s Pinocchio review (spa/eng)

Ambientada en la Italia de finales de los años 30 durante la Segunda Guerra Mundial, el carpintero Gepetto vive sumido en una gran tristeza luego de perder a su único hijo, esto lo lleva a crear a un titere de madera llamado Pinocho, ambos aprenderán mucho del otro mientras enfrentan varios desafíos, en este viaje también los acompañará un grillo llamado Sebastián que también cumplirá un gran rol en todo el viaje.

Una de las mejores cualidades que tiene la historia de Pinocho es que es una historia atemporal, por lo que puede adaptarse a cualquier época y poder transmitir diferentes mensajes sin dejar a un lado la esencia que la hace tan especial. Es imposible no ver esta cinta y no terminar con una sonrisa, es una trama sencilla Pero en esa sencillez también hay dificultad, una fórmula que hemos visto usar a Del Toro en sus películas y siempre nos logra maravillas con increíbles relatos que profundizan en las diferentes emociones que tenemos todos, en esta cinta stop motion atrapan al espectador en una aventura que es tan emocionante como emotiva de principio a fin.

A través del personaje de Pinocho el director trata de educarnos sobre la rudeza de la vida, ya que quien es mejor que un personaje inanimado a quien se le otorga el don de la vida? Se toca el tema de como a veces al tratar de inculcarle a un niño la obediencia no se ve lo que realmente quiere, lo que lo lleva a hacer algo distinto y se ve como obediencia, Pero la obediencia no siempre es mala.

Vemos al inicio como Gepetto pierde a su hijo Carlo quien es mostrado como el hijo perfecto, contrastando con Pinocho quien es curioso, inquieto, llegando a desesperar a más de uno por su comportamiento lo que lleva a qué el pueblo lo vea como un monstruo. Hay otros dos personajes importantes en la cinta, el grillo Sebastian que es como en otras versiones la conciencia de Pinocho y también narrador de la historia, también hace reflexionar a Gepetto sobre como Pinocho ve a Gepetto como su padre, hasta se nos muestra a una muy original representación de la muerte quien también le muestra a Pinocho lo valiosa y fugaz que es la vida, elementos que el director agrega al viaje de todos los personajes.

Esta historia aunque puede lucir infantil está llena de simbolismos, el propio Guillermo Del Toro ha dicho en más de una ocasión ha dicho que la animación no es un género para niños sino una herramienta para contar grandes historias. En el clásico de Disney Pinocho aprende la diferencia entre el bien y el mal y el cómo las decisiones tienen consecuencias, en la versión de Del Toro Pinocho aprende lo que significa ser humano, el protagonista no se gana la vida por ser “bueno”, se gana la vida por ser humano.

Esta es una fábula sobre padres imperfectos e hijos imperfectos, pero va más allá de eso ya que vemos en sus personajes la fragilidad de la obediencia y la fragilidad de la perfección, Gepetto fallando como padre, Pinocho no logrando cumplir con las expectativas como hijo, Sebastián no logrando guiar a Pinocho como debería, se nos muestra como no es necesario ser perfecto sino ser nosotros mismos, como tal vemos como la desobediencia no siempre es algo malo. De la desobediencia pasamos al amor, podemos decir que el mensaje de la película es que se puede amar sin transformar, cada personaje cambia gradualmente a lo largo del filme a través de las experiencias que viven.

Esta historia solo puede ser contada a través del stop motion, los movimientos de cada uno de los personajes son muy realistas y muy bien detallados, hasta los movimientos torpes de un niño de madera están muy bien hechos logrando transmitir perfectamente las emociones de cada uno, está técnica permite crear una atmósfera mucho más inmersiva lo que hace la trama muy atrapante.

Este filme es perfecto de inicio a fin, no tengo ninguna queja sobre la trama, es una historia que es triste en varios momentos y también muy esperanzadora en muchos otros, todo lo que transmite hace que sea una historia perfecta para espectadores de todas las edades.

One of the best qualities that the story of Pinocchio has is that it is a timeless story, so it can be adapted to any era and can convey different messages without leaving aside the essence that makes it so special. It is impossible not to watch this film and not end up with a smile, it is a simple plot but in that simplicity there is also difficulty, a formula that we have seen Del Toro use in his films and he always achieves wonders with incredible stories that delve into the different emotions we all have, in this stop motion film the viewer is trapped in an adventure that is as exciting as it is emotional from beginning to end.

This story although it may look childish is full of symbolism, Guillermo Del Toro himself has said on more than one occasion that animation is not a genre for children but a tool to tell great stories. This story can only be told through stop motion, the movements of each of the characters are very realistic and very well detailed, even the awkward movements of a wooden child are very well done, perfectly conveying the emotions of each one, this technique allows to create a much more immersive atmosphere which makes the plot very gripping.

This film is perfect from start to finish, I have no complaints about the plot, it is a story that is sad in many moments and also very hopeful in many others, everything it conveys makes it a perfect story for viewers of all ages.
