Hellbound

There are hardly ever any fantasy or supernatural series, where lead characters are unable to do anything with the situation they find themselves in. I mean, that is the reason for all the excitement and suspense, heroes/heroines overcoming all the difficulties and more or less winning regardless of the little tragedy they have to endure.
When I was watching "Hellbound" and after watching the first episode, I obviously had that usual expectation that our lead characters would surely come up with a plan to defeat the evil regardless of its' nature or invincibility.
After all, it is the cinematic universe. Yes, they often try to verse with reality as much as possible on behalf of acceptance, but it is still a cinematic universe.
But to my pleasant awe, "Hellbound" refuted drastically every possibility I had in mind till the very end of the series, and still cannot say I was disappointed. And damn, they left a real twisting suspense in the end, hinting there might be a 2nd season afterwards.

The story is about, suddenly there occurs a supernatural being coming to the world and killing people tagged as "sinners" in the name of justice. And they even provide a commandment to the verdict before their death, an exact time and date. A cult labeling themselves as a new religion "New Truth '' is calling those supernatural creatures (3 of them) ``Hellhound" who are coming from hell to uphold justice in the name of God.

Indeed, modern society will not believe such horseshit initially just like I have been thinking the whole time that it is perhaps some AI propaganda of the villian, unless it happened in front of their very own eyes, proving my assumption absolutely incorrect. Then the cult "New Truth" took advantage of it, and started gaining power over people. Having no clue whatsoever who might be the next target, the terribly frightened people started to blindly cling to the "New Truth" for help.

There was no class for those convicted by the decree, so the "cult" made every effort to present the condemned people as sinners and make them confess even if there is nothing to confess actually, leading by a person who is trying to make people aware to be righteous to escape such horrible death.

And there I thought our mighty hero team will definitely come up with a plan to stop this ridiculous death of people, some of them are actually good souls. But then, if you think about it, happening in our world, would any of us be able to actually come up with a plan, having zero idea of the creatures?
No, right?

What I loved about the series most, is that it is very much well versed with reality, no plot hole, no fancy show-off of the protagonists, and precisely demonstrated our current condition of society including the teenagers. Let me list some-

1. No plot hole. The theme is quite unique to having either a super-cool hero or plot hole to make up the story. But there were nor any super-cool protagonists who would take care of everything, nor any plot hole, which is indeed impressive. Even if in the beginning you find some plot hole, it will resolve eventually when the series progresses.
2. The message was clear. It is not like they presented a mystery and solved it. The series left you a question behind..."What if this happens, and what will you do"? That was quite thought provoking, poking many other insights in ones' mind.
3. A part of it showed how internet fanatics take advantage of any situation, be it someone dying or in any predicaments and how ruthless they are to provoke people to just gain some followers, and how people blindly follow through without thinking rationally regardless of having a prominent brain.
4. Another part of it showed how agonizingly our new generations are turning out to be after having a vast exposure to the world only to misuse it at its best. It depicted how their lives have become so internet depened, having no respect, values and only increasing extremism amidst them.
5. Last but not the least, another growing concern of religious fanatics, of how they adapt to violence only to assert their own doctrine to the length of killing and committing the cardinal sins. And that, how foolish are general people to not to think twice and follow through blindly.

So, in brief it showed how ignorance the world has been turning into from young to adults by the advancements of society. And that, how weak we are becoming against a calamity. We almost stopped thinking and only just want to follow someone, expecting they will think on our behalf, which often does not end up in a righteous way.

I enjoyed all the brain bogging thoughts and contradictions, suspense and twist and overall making. Normally netflix is not my cup of tea, but yes, it is a good watch.
