All the Light We Cannot See!

The encounter:

I have always thought it can never be possible to perfectly demonstrate the history/story of wars without plot holes and flawlessly, even articulation is limited to a certain extent.
Of course, what Erich Maria Remarque published is an exceptional supremacy upon being awarded for being born in that drastic time of era and on top of that in that catastrophic region.
Which is why, it was quite an unexpected pleasure to both read and watch "All the light we cannot see"
Even the name is attractive. Having an impactful name for the first encounter certainly is a que for many people like me, I am certain. In that regard, it is a full mark pass.

Also, regardless, asserting all those positive aspects, I might have missed reading or watching it for a long time, thinking perhaps that it is another cliché war-emotional fiction with moderately temporary fleeting enjoyment.
That is if it was not for a certain someone, who did not only suggest the book but bought me as his first gift for me, and insisted that I read, which I did not.

Then one day all of a sudden in one lazy evening, the suggestion popped up on Netflix of a newly released series "All the light you cannot see". Obviously, I missed a heartbeat watching that name on my screen, which did not take a second to jerk me back in our memories of youth. Which, evidently, reminded me that I still have not read the book.

Yet, I started watching the series first! Then read the book right after.

Difference between the books & series:

Difference between the book and the series was not anything new, but I am glad they did not make it into a movie and adapted into a series.
Even then, there was quite some missing part, which was not any abruption in context to adapt but could have been a part.
Though, when I read the book later, and understood the small missing parts, it did not feel like a disappointment regardless. Because, certainly, reading and watching are entirely two different experiences, and books have to articulate everything with words while watching make it easier to just calculate 1+1=2 oftentimes.

Story:

The story takes place at a place called Saint Malo, a small port-city beside the English Channel, surrounded by the granite wall in France, which at that time, in 1944, was under the possession of German soldiers.
As one can imagine, being in an important geographical place, a coastal city by the sea, St Malo was torn between both parties to be possessed during world war 2. As the time flowed during world war 2, the German tried to keep it under their possession till the very last minute until the American artillery arrived and pushed them back. It is said, due to heavy bombardment, 80% of the St Malo was leveled to the ground when the war ended.

Marie
The story depicts a small family, Marie, a blind teenager, who came to St Malo from Paris with her father to live with her uncle and aunty.

The story developed to where the German military with this ordinary family through a cursed diamond named "L'océan de flammes", which was desired by a higher commanding officer of Germany Military. That cursed diamond was safely treasured in the museum, in which Marie's father worked.

And throughout the story, there is portrayed a mysterious professor who diligently, for years, would tell stories on the radio, talking about light and darkness, reading stories, whom a generation, children like Marie grew up experiencing in their lives.

Werner
Then there comes Werner Pfennig a German soldier, from the same generation of Marie and growing up admiring the professor, who was an orphan and a radio genius, later joined the German army and was posted to St Malo. He was assigned to find the whereabouts of Marie under the order of his commanding officer, who believes Marie is gathering and sending signals to the Americans and local resistance.

And just like, a very ordinary and entirely unrelatable individual becomes entangled with one another by being stuck in one city for various reasons and purposes.
Of whom, one is the perpetrator and the other is predator!

I loved the concept, and I loved the book the most as a historical fiction, how the author built the story, which one must read even after watching the series.
Which is focused on the love and admiration towards radio and its fascination in that time, I assumed.
