My Take on Acolyte Reviewers on YouTube
Here's my take on YouTube Acolyte reviewers, I think there are 4 types:
First type is the Jeremy and Angry Joe type, that usually don't touch on the political aspects.
Second type are the full blown alt right bigots like Film Threat those guys are on the face problematic.
Third type are the ones that would prefer that the political don't trump the story telling. I think theory is in the third category.
The forth. Is the leftist that will defend anything as long as their political view is aligned.
My personal view is that the political should never trump story telling because it's a disservice to the political. It's way more efficient to push an agenda through a great story, that way the bigots have less reason to whine. I want more lgbt and diversity represented on media, and if it is of excelent quality people won't have a reason to whine (except the problematic minority). So it's a win all the way, not a stupid social war. That's why I don't think that Critical Drinker and Theory are on the problematic minority, because I honestly think that if the acolyte was truly a well written show, they wouldn't be criticizing it. That's just my personal feeling. I think that if it was better written they would praise it (like critical did with Furiosa).
For me the worst of the worst, that are big enough to matter are the guys from Film Threat. They are nasty. In a good note, I commend John Campea for simply checking out mid season."I don't hate watch" I believe was the quote. Loved the attitude. Angry Joe just uploaded a 2h30 rant on the finalle. It's entertaining 🤣.
Acolyte was doomed from the start with those guys because of all the pre-release drama with the shoerunner, actors talking about patriarchy, press releases and whatnot. I think that even with all that, IF the show had excellent writing, at least Theory would defend the show.
