Ahsoka Season 2 Delays
I think I read somewhere that they plan on recasting Baylan, not writing him out, which, if true, is something I completely agree with. As well, if it were true, that wouldn't mean they'd have to do significant rewrites. Even still, Ray died before the season premiered in 2023, and it's still going to take them two years to produce a script and start filming for an 8-episode season (with average 40-min episodes) where they aren't having to make significant rewrites because they don't plan on throwing the character away.
I agree with the general principle that I'd rather quality over quantity in the stories I'm reading, watching, or listening to, but even so, this feels like an egregious amount of time to have to wait when we have had so many examples in recent television and movie history where great stories have been made in shorter time periods.
Three years between the start of filming Season 1 and the start of filming Season 2 is insane in any scenario you look at it, lol. That is without a writers' strike, too, or with one, but only for a month or two after Season 1 ended. If the cause is Dave having more responsibilities now to where it takes him an exorbitant amount of time to write the season, then perhaps he should not be the only writer. The streaming model and the way they go about greenlighting shows nowadays is contributing to this culture in television media where this sort of thing is being more normalized, which is, in my opinion, a bad thing in general. An example of this not happening can be seen with Andor—they gave Gilroy an entire show from the beginning, and while I don't attribute that fact as the sole reason for how brilliantly executed that show has been so far, I can't help but think it played a role.
I'm alright with projects being spread out with releases; I'm not okay when it takes three years between filming, and then they add the mandatory spacing out on top of that. We aren't going to see Ahsoka Season 2 until late 2026 at the earliest, and that is assuming they don't push it back further than that due to Disney wanting to space out their projects. I think there is a scenario where we don't see it until 2027, which would be absolutely horrible, lol. Imagine four years between seasons.
