Movie review: The Watchers/Observados (ENG/ESP)
Hello everyone! I recently saw this movie that I thought it was interesting to bring and analyze. It is of the horror-fantasy genre and in my opinion quite original. The suspense keeps the viewers in tension all the time and almost until the end we don't know what it's about.
¡Hola a todos! Recientemente vi esta película que me pareció interesante traer y analizarla. Es del género terror-fantasía y en mi opinión bastante original. El suspenso mantiene a los espectadores en tensión todo el tiempo y casi hasta el final no sabemos de qué se trata.

“The Watchers” is an American supernatural horror film written and directed by Ishana Night Shyamalan. It is based on the novel of the same name by A. M. Shine. It stars Dakota Fanning and Georgina Campbell. It tells the history of Mina, who works in a pet store, when her boss gives her the task of delivering a golden parrot to a zoo. On the way, her car breaks down and leaves her stranded in a forest. When she gets out of the car and walks a few steps through the forest, she turns around and realizes that she has disappeared. Lost in the middle of the forest, she must fight for her life and find shelter before nightfall.
“The Watchers” (Los observadores o Los vigilantes) es una película de terror sobrenatural estadounidense, escrita y dirigida por Ishana Night Shyamalan. Está basada en la novela del mismo nombre de A. M. Shine. La protagoniza Dakota Fanning y Georgina Campbell. Relata la historia de Mina, que trabaja en una tienda de mascotas, cuando su jefe le encarga la tarea de entregar un loro dorado a un zoológico. En el camino, su auto se estropea y la deja varada en un bosque. Cuando sale de este y camina unos pasos por el bosque, al dar la vuelta se da cuenta que ha desaparecido. Perdida en medio del bosque deberá luchar por su vida y encontrar un refugio antes de que anochezca.
My opinion/Mi opinión:
The history caught my attention from the beginning. The first scene of a man who wants to run away and is attacked at night by something strange that lives in the forest, is very well done, as it leaves the viewers with the idea of wanting to see more. I was hooked from the start. Then Mina's history, on this journey with a parrot she calls Darwin, and with a past that still brings her worries I think is great. The acting of the actress is excellent and the forest setting brings terror to the screen.
La historia me llamó mucho la atención desde el principio. La primera escena de un hombre que quiere huir y es atacado en la noche por algo extraño que vive en el bosque, está muy bien lograda, ya que deja a los espectadores con la idea de querer ver más. Me enganchó desde el inicio. Luego la historia de Mina, en este viaje con un loro al que llama Darwin, y con un pasado que aún le trae preocupaciones me parece genial. La actuación de la actriz es excelente y el ambiente de los bosques trae el terror a la pantalla.
Mina follows an old woman, Madeline, to a bunker-like building in the middle of the woods, nicknamed “The Coop”, and meets two other occupants, Ciara and Daniel. Madeline explains that mysterious entities called “The Watchers” watch the group through the Coop's mirrored window every night. The idea struck me as highly original and one always wonders why. Showing themselves as in a reality show, they spend the night until the next morning, where Mina learns “the rules”: the Watchers attack anyone who comes out at night and cannot go near their burrows, a set of tunnels underground where they spend the day. Breaking these rules starts the trouble. They will try to survive the angry creatures.
Mina sigue a una anciana, Madeline, hasta un edificio parecido a un búnker en medio del bosque, apodado "The Coop", y conoce a otros dos ocupantes, Ciara y Daniel. Madeline explica que unas entidades misteriosas llamadas "Los Vigilantes" observan al grupo a través de la ventana de espejo del Coop todas las noches. La idea me pareció sumamente original y uno se pregunta siempre las razones de aquello. Mostrándose como en un reality show, pasan la noche hasta la mañana siguiente, donde Mina conoce “las reglas”: los vigilantes atacan a cualquiera que salga de noche y no pueden acercarse a sus madrigueras, un conjunto de túneles bajo tierra donde pasan el día. Al romper estas reglas comienzan los problemas. Intentarán sobrevivir a las criaturas enfurecidas.
I find the argument a bit fanciful (spoiler beware) and somewhat disappointing, as the truth is revealed at the end: the Watchers are shape-shifting fairies trying to learn how to better imitate humans. Nevertheless, the film is very well done. The terror and tension is felt from the beginning and the ending surprised me a lot. I didn't imagine it or expect it. It's still one of those movies that you have to see. If you like horror combined with fantasy, you will like this movie.
El argumento me parece un poco fantasioso (cuidado spoilers) y un tanto decepcionante, ya que al final se revela la verdad: los Vigilantes son hadas que cambian de forma e intentan aprender a imitar mejor a los humanos. Sin embargo, la película está muy bien lograda. El terror y la tensión se sienten desde el inicio y el final me sorprendió un montón. No me lo imaginaba ni me lo esperaba. No deja de ser una de esas películas que uno tiene que ver. Si te gusta el terror combinado con la fantasía, te va a gustar esta película.

Uyy esto suena como algo que em encantaría ver, además porque tengo entendido que Ishana Night Shyamalan es como su padre, en el sentido de que también usa plot twists, y aunque uno sepan que llegarán al final, no sabes de que forma lo usará, siempre es algo inesperado. Muchas gracias por traer esta review, de verdad me dieron muchas ganas de ver la peli. 😉
¡La tenés que ver! Es una peli con un argumento super original, aunque al final te parezca fantasioso. Me la recomendó mi hermano y desde el inicio me atrapó bastante, porque no sabés cuáles son las intenciones de los vigilantes al observarlos. ¡Es muy buena!
