Movie review: Llamas de venganza/ Firestarter (ENG/ESP)
Hello everyone! The other days I saw this movie, even though it's from 2022, and I liked the idea of analyzing it to bring you a recommendation. I had read the book before (I love Stephen King) and it was nice to see this movie adaptation.
¡Hola a todos! Los otros días vi esta película, a pesar de que es del 2022, y me gustó la idea de analizarla para traerles una recomendación. Antes había leído el libro (me encanta Stephen King) y fue lindo ver esta adaptación al cine.
Summary/Resumen:
Firestarter is a 2022 American science fiction film directed by Keith Thomas. It is based on the novel “Eyes of Fire” by author Stephen King. It stars Zac Efron, Ryan Kiera Armstrong, Sydney Lemmon, Kurtwood Smith, John Beasley, Michael Greyeyes and Gloria Reuben.
Llamas de Venganza es una película de ciencia ficción estadounidense de 2022, dirigida por Keith Thomas. Está basada en la novela “Ojos de fuego” del autor Stephen King. Se encuentra protagonizada por Zac Efron, Ryan Kiera Armstrong, Sydney Lemmon, Kurtwood Smith, John Beasley, Michael Greyeyes y Gloria Reuben.
“Charlie McGee is a girl with a very dangerous hidden power, she can turn things on with her mind, especially when she gets angry. Her parents try to hide her power until the government finds out and tries to capture her, wreaking havoc on the girl's life, who must flee and fight for her survival.”

My opinion/Mi opinión:
Imagine how it would feel to be born with a power that you can't control and that you call “the bad”, because it is so powerful that it can cause a lot of destruction in its path. When Charlie can assimilate it, he tries to hide it and is ashamed of it. He manages to keep it “uneventful” for a few years, but it grows and so does the power, so he loses control when he gets angry. How many kids lose control in that state? I would say all of them, it happens to Charlie as it does to anyone. However he is so dangerous that he scares even his parents. As the film presents it I find it tender and creepy at times, one wonders what the child is capable of. It is an acceptable adaptation of Stephen King's novel, however I felt it lacked more, for me it failed to capture the essence of the book.
Imagínense cómo se sentiría nacer con un poder que no puedes controlar y que llamas “lo malo”, porque es tan poderoso que puede causar mucha destrucción a su paso. Cuando Charlie puede asimilarlo, intenta ocultarlo y se avergüenza de él. Logra que no haya “incidentes” en unos años, pero crece y el poder también, por lo que pierde el control cuando se enoja. ¿Cuántos niños pierden el control en ese estado? Yo diría que todos, a Charlie le sucede lo mismo que a cualquiera. Sin embargo es tan peligroso que asusta hasta sus padres. Como lo presenta la película me parece tierno y escalofriante por momentos, uno se pregunta de qué es capaz la niña. Es una adaptación aceptable de la novela de Stephen King, sin embargo me pareció que le falta más, para mi no logró capturar la esencia del libro.
The film has a pace that seems too fast to me. At one point we see flashbacks that show us her parents in an experiment they were part of in college that got out of control. Since then they run away from these people and, above all, try not to let them realize what their little daughter can do. They are very well accomplished, although I would have liked to know more of the experiment that took place and how they got there. Both parents also have powers, but it causes them significant physical damage when they try to use them. Charlie on the other hand, seems to be different. He even likes the feeling of setting fire.
La película tiene un ritmo que me parece demasiado rápido. En un momento vemos flashbacks que nos muestran a sus padres en un experimento del que fueron parte en la universidad y que se salió de control. Desde entonces huyen de esa gente y, sobre todo, tratan de que no se den cuenta de lo que puede hacer su pequeña hija. Están muy bien logrados, aunque me hubiera gustado saber más del experimento que se llevó a cabo y cómo llegaron allí. Ambos padres también tienen poderes, pero les causa daños físicos importantes cuando intentan usarlos. Charlie en cambio, parece ser diferente. Incluso le gusta la sensación de prender fuego.
The main characters stand out with their acting, although it lacks more depth as it is obvious that in a short movie with a simple plot we can't appreciate, however they get the best out of each character. The visual effects and action are impressive, and maintain the tension and suspense throughout. If you are a fan of this kind of movies, I recommend it.
Los protagonistas se destacan con su actuación, aunque le falta más profundidad como es obvio que en una película corta y con una trama simple no podemos apreciar, sin embargo le sacan lo mejor a cada personaje. Los efectos visuales y la acción son impresionantes, y mantienen la tensión y el suspenso durante todo el tiempo. Si eres fanático de este tipo de películas, te la recomiendo.

Está película tiene un buen comienzo, creo que la decisión de que el personaje principal sea una pre adolescente fue algo correcto con la historia porque pienso que esa etapa de la vida concuerda con lo de explorar los poderes y su temperamento; me gustó lo de la errada relación con la madre lo cual puede crear rabia en la protagonista y me hubiera gustado que Zack Efron tuviera una mejor actuación, entre eso y lo que sucede tanto en el segundo como el acto final del film, creo que decae y mucho, se me hizo aburrida y nada destacable.

Me alegro que te haya gustado. Concuerdo con vos en algunas cosas, el film se torna algo aburrido y me hubiera gustado que los personajes fueran más profundos. No se puede comparar con el libro. ¡Un saludo!
