Unkillable! Sisu (2022) || Movie Review
Sisu. At first when I heard of this movie I thought it was a B class kind of movie that won't be interesting and when I saw the poster I decided I wasn't going to go watch because the main character appeared dirty on the post. A lesson, 'don't judge the book by its cover'. I keep forgetting this sometimes. Not until I began to read good reviews about this movie did I change my mind about watching it.
So I went to look for the trailer to watch and my goodness! I was blown away and I became anxious to watch Sisu (2022). Immediately I went to stream the movie to watch. Before I watched the movie, I went to search the internet for the meaning of Sisu and discovered that it was a Finnish word which translates to determination, perseverance, and strength of will and I still didn't quite understand the title until I watched the movie.
Sisu (2022) is an action thriller movie that was distributed by Sony Pictures, Lionsgate and Nordisk Film. This movie was produced by Petri Jokiranta and it was set in Finnish, Lapland. The story was written and directed by Jalmari Helander. It starred Jorma Tommila, Aksel Hennie, Jack Doolan and Mimosa Willamo. Also the movie revolves around a retired Finnish commander who discovered gold and had to fight off Nazi soldiers that were led by a vicious SS officer from collecting his gold.
The story of the movie begins with how the Lapland War started in late 1944 when the Finnish people lost the Continuation War. Retired commando Aatami Korpi decides to stay out of the ongoing war after he lost his family in the last one. So now he lives a solitary life with his horse and pet dog in the wilderness. On a fateful day, exploring a lake, he discovered a gold mine. He felt overwhelmed with joy that he cried. Immediately he dug out a large amount of gold nuggets and left the site.
As he started his journey, along the way he encountered a Nazi platoon that was also led by the vicious SS officer, Bruno Helldorf. Though the SS officer took interest in Aatami but let him pass freely while his other men laughed at him as they mocked him. As Aatami went on, he met the second group of the platoon Nazi soldiers and then out of curiosity, they decided to harass our gentleman Aatami by searching his bags.
Discovering he had a lot of gold they ordered him to surrender so they could execute him and take his gold. Triggered by the order of surrender, Aatami killed all the men brutally and swiftly. During the struggle, the SS officer sensed something went wrong when rapid gunshot was heard. So he decided to turn back. Aatami had finished killing all the men and was gathering his gold back into his bags when the SS officer discovered that his men were all murdered. What will happen? Will they let Aatami go free? Or will they go after him? You have to watch the movie to know how it will end.
My Review And Rating.
Watching this was incredibly satisfying, I must admit. First time I am impressed that all the antagonist characters were well dealt with in a movie. There was no quick or easy death for them except a brutal death that involves them scream in excruciating pain.
I love this movie because it shows deeply why one should always let people be, don't invade their personal space, or peace because you have some certain power in your possession or because you feel like you can do anything and get away with it. Just don't. When one is back up against a wall you can't tell how they would react. Let the sleeping dog lie in peace, my advice.
This movie is good old action film that ticks alot things I love in a good action film. I enjoyed watching it and my expectations were met in an impressive way. Everything about this movie was raw and pretty much realistic. The exploration of powerful themes like vengeance, determination, resilience, perseverance and endurance was protrayed strongly in the story of this movie.
If Lionsgate is looking for something like John Wick to explore or a character that kills in an interesting way, I think this is it. I see good prequels from this movie because of the setting. They can give us a prequel of Sisu's early life so we see how he earned his nickname, but that is a probability. In my opinion, I would love to see more of Sisu or better still if it won't be done properly, let Sisu sleep peace.
The director did a fantastic job with movie, the setting of scenes, the suspense, tension, the action scenes and the stunt were all amazing. I love how the story of this movie was told. Little script and dialogues but action packed. How the scenes were arranged create a sense mystery to Sisu's character. It was in the middle of the movie we were told stories about our resilient protagonist. At first, one would think he is a helpless old man but no, he was a predator.
The location for this movie was beautiful, all the landscape, the sunsets was appealing to me. Even though my screen was filled up with brutal kills, I was still able to the beauty of Finland. The costumes were perfectly selected, the cinematography was done excellently well, the visual was good and lastly the music for me was ominously beautiful to hear.
All characters did amazingly well, especially the Finnish women who were captured by the Nazi soldiers. Their scenes was action packed and thrilling to watch because revenge was actually served cold. Though a scene in this movie caught me unawares which had me covering my mouth with my hand in shock. The scene was when Aatami's horse stepped on a minefield. I was emotional because I felt his loss.
Rating this movie, I will give it 4.8 out of 5 stars. This movie was interesting, satisfying and thrilling to watch. If you easily get triggered by bloody scenes do not watch this movie. I will recommend this movie to action lovers. So if you haven't seen this movie yet, go watch now and have while at it.

Sisu...
Hmm
So you would put of watching a movie because the main character is dirty in the cover?😂😂
What can I say, I don't like muddy war films.
I was also surprised by SISU, I knew about the action, the graphic deaths, the attitude of the protagonist, all that air of the classic action movie protagonist, but I did not expect the direction which was great; it's like you say, the scenery, landscapes, everything was used to make the story better.
I appreciate the influence of the Western genre and Tarantino's work although the director of that film has made interesting movies.
SISU surprised me, no doubt. This is actually my first time noticing the director's work even though I have watched some of his works. I do appreciate the western genre, it added quality to the movie. Thank you so much for your honest opinion. I appreciate your comment.
Wow, this looks intense and graphic. That guy with the knife through his head doesn't look like he's having a good time. Interesting premise and looks cleanly shot. I just watched Cocaine Bear last night, so I got plenty of bloody mayhem to last me a year, but this one looks interesting. Great to read your review.
Ah! Cocaine Bear is a thrilling movie haha. I enjoyed it too. I don't argue with bloody Mayhem too. SISU is wild, satisfying and Interesting. You would enjoy it. Thank you for taking the time to read my review. It means a lot 😊.
