Unexpected Ending! Rub (2023) || Movie Review.

'Rub'. When I first heard of this movie, I was so curious as to why a movie title be 'Rub' and I wanted to know what prompted such a title. So immediately I stream the movie to watch it. Though the cast of this movie are not well known because I am not familiar with them at all. This is actually my first time seeing them on the screen.

However, from the outlook of the movie, one might immediately dismiss the movie because it looks like a C+ grade film. That's how I see it though. But to be honest, this movie was unexpectedly an impressive film with a good story, excellent ending, and amazing cast.

'Rub (2023)' is a romance-thriller film that was written and directed by Christopher Fox. It was filmed in Peekskill, New York, USA and it starred Micah Spayer, Jennifer Figuereo, Westley Barrington Artope, PJ Landers, Rob Figueroa and Steven Strickland. The story of this film revolves around Neal, who is lonely, has been billed all his life and is looking to find true love but then his life changed in a twinkle of an eye when a co-worker convinced him to visit a massage parlor.

The movie starts with introducing Neal, an office worker who is in his late 30s, living a miserable and lonely life. No fun activities except for his work, video game time after work, and his maturbating time before he goes to bed. These routines are his life but however, Neal yarns and seeks for true love or someone to settle down with. He wants to be loved and he wants to love someone but there is no one willing to be with him.

Things take a wild turn when a co-worker of his suggests he goes to a massage parlor he usually patronizes to "feel good". At first, Neal was skeptical about receiving the offer from his co-worker, but in the end, he goes to the massage parlor. As he gets there, he meets Perla, a young, beautiful, well endowed sexy lady. Perla attends to him and she rocks his world with sensual and a heart gripping orgasm.

The next day, Neal goes to work feeling sheepishly happy and satisfied but later he was mocked by all his colleagues at work for going to the shitty massage parlor. Neal breaks down mentally and becomes aggressive. With his melt down, he goes back to the massage parlor to see Perla again. However, something unfortunately happens as Neal and Perla run for their lives from a gunshot battle between them and armed robbers. Will they survive out there?

My Review And Rating.

This movie was not what I expected because I thought it was going to be a disaster but it actually turned out okay. I was actually expecting a shabby script, directing, and terrible performance from the cast but it was the opposite. In my opinion, 'Rub' is a tension filled road trip movie that make one look forward till end to know if the two main characters survived or not.

The writer and director (Christopher Fox) did an amazing job with this film. The directing work was done excellently. He also did well creating the right tone and mood for this movie that was befitting to the story. The plot was well written with good themes, setting, and dialogues. The script was good but had some few potholes which is expected in any movie.

The ending was unexpected for me. I thought this movie was going to have a happy ending which will involve the two characters coming out on the other side whole. Christopher ended up giving us a sad ending but from my perspective, the ending felt rush and not properly written to actually convince the viewers. There were missing blanks in the ending that needed to be filled.

The Cast performance was okay. The two characters had an amazing chemistry together. Their performances came naturally to them and it was good. Each character in the story of this film was well built in the plot except for the antagonist characters that were mysterious.

The setting was befitting to the story of the film. The location was well selected. The visuals and cinematography was well done. This movie was odd, surprising, funny, a little bit steamy, dark and above all, it was relatable.

Rating this movie, I can't say, I hate this movie nor can I say I like the movie. It is a movie that just surprises you and leaves you with the impression of 'Okay, I see you'. I will give it 6 out of 10 stars. I enjoyed it and it was entertaining. If you haven't seen it, go watch it and don't let negative reviews stop you. Be warned, there were extreme nudity and sexual scenes in the movie.
