Thrilling! Extraction 2 (2023) || Movie Review.

IMG_20230704_133622.jpg

Chris Hemsworth outdid himself this time in 'Extraction 2 (2023)'. When I first saw the trailer of the movie I wasn't that excited to watch because the previous sequel didn't really do it for me. Not that it wasn't thrilling to watch but because the language barrier got in the way. I watch the version with no subtitles. I was thinking, why is there a part two of Extraction? What is there again to produce a sequel from? But, I must confess I was super impressed after I finished watching this movie and happy I got to see one of my favorite actors there, even though his scenes were just two.

The Extraction franchise, I think now, has a bright and interesting future. I never thought it would go far like this and to be honest, I am on board with more future sequels. 'Extraction 2' is way better than the initial sequel, though it ought to be like that, because 'Extraction 1' was the foundation of this amazing sequel. My wish is that they keep up the quality and don't water down any character.

For once, since the existence of Netflix, I will commend them for their diligent work in this franchise. They did an amazing job and for once in their life, they didn't mess up a movie that has been well and long-awaited by the audience and fans. Let's get to the review.

'Extraction 2 (2023)' is an action thriller movie that was distributed by Netflix was directed by Sam Hargrave and written by Joe Russo. This movie is the second installment in the Extraction franchise which revolves around a mercenary Tyler (Hemsworth) who was hired by his ex-wife to extract her sister and her children from a Georgian prison where they are being held by her abusive husband. Extraction 2 starred Chris Hemsworth, Golshifteh Farahani, Adam Bessa, Olga Kurylenko, Daniel Bernhardt, Tinatin Dalakishvili and Idris Elba.

The story of the movie started right from where the previous sequel ended. The viewers are introduced to scenes of Tyler's last mission in Dhaka, Bangladesh and how was rescued and resuscitated back by Nik Khan's meno. Tyler later woke up 9 months later and decided to retire as a mercenary to a cabin in Austria. What is next for Tyler? How does he get back on his foot? Will he truly retire?

After some few days of living alone in his cabin and settling into his retired life, a stranger (Idris Elba) approached him with a job. At first, he rejected the job but the stranger convinced him that Ketevan, his ex-wife Mia's sister, and her two children, Sandro and Nina, must be rescued from a Georgian prison or they would die. With that Tyler agrees to carry out this mission. Ketevan married Davit Radiani, one of the founders of the largest crime syndicate in Georgia who was imprisoned for throwing off a DEA agent off a bridge. So to have his family in his sight he brings them to stay with him in the prison.

Immediately preparing for this rescue and exercising his body to be combat ready. He contacts Nik Khan, his partner, to assist him with the mission. Will they be successful with the rescue? Will Tyler be able to extract his ex-wife's sister's family out safely?

My Review And Rating.

This is one of the best action movies I have seen this year. I really enjoyed this movie, I must confess. It's intense and suspenseful that I had to take a break from watching it in the middle to release my built up tension because a character in the movie was really pissing me off. This movie was thrilling from the beginning to the end and it made me look forward to when Tyler would face off with the antagonist. I was agitated all through.

The director Sam Hargrave did a fantastic job with this movie. The exceptional cast, and directing action choreography was also flawless. Every action sequence looks absolutely authentic. The setting of the movie was good, the plot, script and the backstory were interesting and also the display of a variety of exotic firearms and knives. Let's not forget how the fighting scenes were captured with skillfulness making them almost real and brutal.

Like I said earlier, this movie has an exceptional cast. All the characters were amazing and performed their roles well which makes the viewers connect easily with their characters. Chris Hemsworth as Tyler was amazing! A strong-willed man, resilient, and determined. I love his character. He is witty and at the same time, a brutal mercenary. Chris Hemsworth's performance was amazing, acute and interesting. I can't wait to see more of him in the next future sequels.

Golshifteh Farahani as Nik Khan, Tyler's partner, was a good strong presence in the movie. I must commend her performance. It was fantastic and courageous. I enjoyed watching her character and I love how she stole the spotlight every single time she appeared in a scene. She was Tyler's support system and she portrayed her role well. Also, Adam Bessa as Yaz Khan, who is Nik's brother, was a character I liked so much and I was totally sad how his character was written towards the ending. Though his role didn't require much attention, but he caught my attention.

The most annoying character in this movie, Andro Japaridze who acted as Sandro Radiani, Ketevan's son. I must confess, this boy pissed me off so badly, I wish I could throw my papuča (Slipper) at his head. For him to be that annoying, he performed his role well and he did excellently well. The antagonist was good with his role, and I say he was a worthy antagonist for Tyler.

The plot and script was written well. There was a good flow from the beginning till the end. The location was well selected, the action scenes well arranged to blend well with storyline. The visuals were crystal clear that all the action scenes didn't seem blurry, no using if unnecessary slow motion and the cinematography was fantastic.

Rating this movie, I will give it 4.8 out of 5 stars and I can't wait for next sequel, let's see what Netflix has install for us. It was an amazing movie and I would recommend it to action film lovers. If you are yet to see this movie hurry now and watch it.

I really liked this film, I think Hargrave does a good job although I still think it shows a lot of influence from the two The Raid films directed by Gareth Evans (I recommend both films).

There is something I liked about the sequel that I have seen little referenced and that is the story of the villains, what they became as they became victims of a violent world,.that was fine with me because it works in relating it to the motives of Tyler's sister-in-law's young son.

Excellent review.

Ah! The Raid, I love those movies Hahah. I would recommend it to anyone. I agree with you that their similarities, in the prison scenes.

There is something I liked about the sequel

As the movie explores the motivations and backstories of its antagonists it help the viewers understand what led them to become who they are, it helps us understand their actions which is in the case of Tyler's sister-in-law's young son.

Thank you for the visit and comment. I appreciate your support.
