Finally, I got to watch The Famous D&D and I just want to say that this movie is shockingly the funniest adventure movie I have watched. I first heard of D&D when the game came out back then, I was like, why are people so fascinated about this game and then I didn't check out the game. I don't like when people are too fascinated about a particular thing, it discourages me from checking that thing out. As you can see how long it took me to watch this movie.

I was reluctant to watch because of Chris Pine. I am not his fan at all but then the beautiful reviews that several people have written on this platform encouraged me to watch it and because I love adventure movies. The last adventure movie that I watched was 'Lord of the Rings' and 'The Hobbit'. Both franchises were impressive. D&D impressed me and I think it's a movie I will rewatching soon by enduring Chris Pine's face 😒.

D&D: Honor Among Thieves (2023) was directed by Jonathan Goldstein and John Francis Daley who also co-wrote the screenplay with Michael Gilio. This movie was adapted from a story written by Chris McKay and Michael Gilio which is based on D&D game. This movie is an American fantasy, comedy and adventure film which was distributed by Paramount pictures. It starred Chris Pine, Michelle Rodriguez, Regé-Jean Page, Justice Smith, Sophia Lillis, and Hugh Grant with other supporting characters.

The plot of this movie was set in the Forgotten Realms campaign setting which revolves mainly around Edgin Davis, a bard who was imprisoned for attempting to steal the "Tablet of Reawakening ''. This tablet was to be used to resurrect his dead wife who was killed by a disciple of the Red Wizards for stealing their treasure some time ago. Edgin and his team of thieves got caught during this heist and also got betrayed by a conman, Forge and his accomplice Sofina (a Red witch).

Two years of incarceration, Edgin and his team partner Holga, a barbarian, were granted pardon. So he went to look for Forge and his daughter Kira who he had to abandon in the care of Forge before going to steal the "Tablet of Reawakening". Edgin and Holga found out that Forge was now the lord of Neverwinter land with Sofina as his second. He realized that Forge had poisoned his daughter's heart against him with lies. Determined to have his daughter back, Edgin gathers a team to make his plan work. Will he succeed? Or will Forge have his daughter forever?

Characters.

The cast of this movie were all amazing and fantastic with their performance but I will talk about a few that impressed me.

Sophia Lillis as Doric

IMG_20230531_161547.jpg

Sophia was amazing with her role. A druid that was raised by the wood elf enclave in the Neverwinter wood. Her character was a strong influence in the group, persistent and resilient. She was very useful with her powers and I think without her Edgin and his team wouldn't have succeeded. She is my favorite among the team. I enjoyed how she stole the spotlight from Chris several times in the movie. Impeccable performance!

Michelle Rodriguez as Holga Kilgore

Michelle made her presence felt in the movie. She acted as the barbarian who was banished from her tribe for falling in love with an outsider. She also played a role in Kira's life as a mother figure. I enjoyed her performance, although I didn't really connect with her character that much but her character was enjoyable especially her dark humor.

Justice Smith as Simon Aumar

IMG_20230531_161802.jpg

Justice acted as a half-elf wild magic sorcerer whose magical power is not yet up to its full potential. I enjoyed his role, he was a gentleman and at the same time a lover boy. He made me laugh so hard during the underdark scene. In Fact they all made me laugh in that scene. His character was enjoyable and he portrayed the theme of self-discovery strongly.

Chris Pine as Edgin Darvis

IMG_20230531_161358.jpg

Chris was the lead character of this movie, though I'm not used to seeing him in comedy movies, he impressed me here. From his performance I could tell that it came to him naturally and he didn't need to push himself. Even though I don't like him, his performance was enjoyable enough for me to watch.

Daisy Head as Sofina

Daisy acted as the villian and I must say I enjoyed her performance. She successfully stole the spotlight from Hugh Grant which made me not actually pay attention to him. Towards the end, I think Sofina out did herself and got on Doric's bad side. Hahah. It was so satisfying to watch that I rewind the scene over and over again.

All the supporting characters did well, especially the Eagle Jonathan Hahah. I was like, leave that innocent eagle, let him have some peace. Regé-Jean Page was also a great impact in the movie. His stunts were all cool and thrilling to watch, but since I don't like him also, his artificial dreadlocks did it for me😑. In conclusion, the cast of this movie were incredible.

Review and Rating.

Watching this movie was super fun for me as it reminds me a lot of 'Guardian of the Galaxy' and 'Lord of the Rings'. It was a thrilling experience for me. It gave good laughs, jump scares that were not expected and good dark humor. I went in to watch this movie with zero expectations but in the end, I was super impressed and now I consider this movie as a movie I will be rewatching occasionally.

The directors did a fantastic job with the movie by gathering a fantastic cast, amazing producing crew and excellent cinematography crew. The storyline of this movie is richer than I expected. It was a fast paced plot that I didn't notice the movie was over 2hrs. I didn't get bored or lost in the middle of the film. It was a smooth and thrilling ride for me.

The heist and the adventure were placed together in an intriguing way that keeps the audience on the screen throughout the movie. The CGI used for this movie was amazing. The magic and creatures were excellently designed making all the fictitious worlds they created brought to life. The costumes were good with amazing designs. It added to the old age vibe for me.

The scene arrangements were incredibly arranged so that it made the flow of the plot and dialogues flow smoothly. All the characters also had good chemistry with each. The action scenes were all thrilling to watch. My favorite scenes are the cemetery, underdark and ending scenes.

Rating this movie, I will give it 4.7 out of 5 stars. I really enjoyed this movie. It would be a good watch for the family but with supervision because of some strong language used in the movie. If you have watched this movie, hurry now and watch it.

One question,

Why don't you like Chris Pine? 😕

I'm not his fan either because I barely watch his movies, just this one and Wonder Woman

Why don't you like Chris Pine? 😕

There is something about his face that pisses me off 😂.

I watched Wonder Woman too, but it's because of him😅.
