Robots (2023) || Movie Review.

Today, I was feeling like watch a good sci-fi movie and I stumbled across ’Robots (2023)’. At first when I saw that it was a mixture of comedy, romance, and sci-fi, I became skeptical about watching the movie because I wasn't sure of the outcome with such genres together.

However, I saw Shailene Woodley on the poster so I decided to give it a try and watch it. It's been a while since I have watched Shailene Woodley movies. I do enjoy her movies but not all of them. Also, I saw this movie with an open mind and no expectations.

’Robots (2023)’ is a sci-fi, romance and comedy film that was distributed by Neon. It was written and directed by Ant Hines and Casper Christensen. The story of this movie was based on a novel titled, "The Robot Who Looked Like Me" that was written by Robert Sheckley.

The plot revolves around the lifestyle of Charles and Elaine as their life has been taken over by their humanoid doubles. These robots were not going to hand over their backs easily. The movie starred Shailene Woodley, Jack Whitehall, Paul Rust, Nicholas Rutherford, Paul Jurewicz, Samantha Ashley and Richard Lippert.

Little About The Plot.

In the advance year of 2032, robots (humanoid) were used by humans to handles task, but a rule was ultimate, which was not having a humanoid double which results in 40 years in prison as punishment. It was illegal to have humanoid doubles. However, Charles and Elaine decided have their humanoid doubles illegally.

Charles, a womanizer uses his humanoid, C2 to work at his father's company and to prepare women for him by dating them so he can have sex with them eventually. On the other hand, Elaine uses her humanoid, E2 to have sex with several men in place of money so she wouldn't have to work to pay her bill.

Unfortunately, C2 and E2 accidentally went on a date together and ended up having sex. Charles and Elaine thought the humanoid relationship would end there but the robots ended up developing emotional feelings for each which is unusual for robots. Charles and Elaine tried to separate them but it all went south when the humanoid took over their lives and identity right from under their nose. How will they both get back their lives back?

My Review And Rating.

To be honest, I enjoyed watching this movie. It was entertaining and engaging. It is clever, witty, and it was well done. I appreciate how sci-fi, romance and comedy were blended together in this movie flawlessly. The flow was simple and undemanding. The flow wasn't slow, or too fast. It was decent and fully packed with dark humor. Though from the trailer of this movie you might think that it is a silly movie that might not be interesting but it wasn't. It worked well as a very entertaining sci-fi romcom.

The plot / storyline of this movie was written well. I love how the scenes were arranged, how the characters were built with each distinctive mannerism that added to the humor. There are no any twists and turns or mystery; everything was predictable. However, with its predictable plot it provides a very funny and comforting experience which was like indulging in comfort food. The script was well adopted.

Also, one thing I like about the plot was that used satirical approach to our society today especially by highlighting our excessive dependence on technology. As we see now AI is take over all our activities slowly before we know it, technology will take over completely.

The Cast was fantastic and very good with their performances. I had good laughs as watch the movie. I didn't feel bored all through all the run time of the movie. It was fun all through with the cast. Though there were some annoying scenes by the cast but their performances were all good to watch.

Shailene Woodley and Jack Whitehall both did a good job with their double roles - or can I say triple roles which was in the case of Woodley. Though their 'real' personalities were not convincing because I felt there no chemistry. On the other hand, their robot personalities are very convincing and there was strong chemistry. But then I find Woodley's sex-toy version of herself very hilarious.

The setting was good and the mood was okay. The cinematography was fantastic. Visuals was bright and colourful. The soundtracks were all on point. The camera work was excellent and the camera angle was averagely done.

Rating this movie, I will give it 7 out of 10 stars. Don't be deceived by the low ratings. It was a fun movie enjoyable to watch when alone or with your loved ones. Be warned, lots of profanity and nudity. I would recommend you do not watch with children.
