Not Horrific! The Mistress (2023) || Movie Review.

Now, I think Hollywood doesn't know the best features of a good horror film anymore because I don't understand why this movie was tagged a horror. It's a psychological thriller to me and a horrible one!

I don't have much to say about this movie except for all the flaws and the reason this movie shouldn't have been produced or even thought of by the writer. So I will just go straight to the review.

'The Mistress' is an American horror film that was written and directed by Greg Pritikin. The plot of the movie revolves around a couple who just got married. They just move into an old house which is their dream home. In that house, they discover a bunch of romantic letters that are 100-year-old. The letters were from a woman who committed suicide after being abandoned by the house owner. It starred John Magaro, James Carpinello, Alexandra Grey, Chasten Harmon and Aylya Marzolf.

In the middle of somewhere in America, we were introduced to a couple who were excited to move to their newly acquired house. A house with 3 bedrooms, with a creepy basement and an antique. The day they moved in, their flirty and seductive next door neighbor came to welcome them into the neighborhood and didn't know when to leave until the couple told her to leave in a respectful manner.

Later that night, the couple discovered in the basement an old portrait of a young woman that was taken in front of the house, together with some bunch of romantic letters addressed to a sir Williams the owner of the house and a plate camera. Excited to read these letters, the wife invited some close family friends over for the housewarming and after dinner they began to read the letter and discover who the young woman in the portrait was.

A few days later, the husband encountered the young woman in the portrait while he was staying up to work late into the night. This encounter went south when the husband had a sexual time with the young woman. From there on bizarre things began to happen as the young woman became the husband stalker like she was to sir Williams. Is the young woman truly alive or she is just a ghost? What will newlyweds do?

My Review And Rating.

I will start by talking about the one thing I actually liked about this movie which turned out to be a disaster for me. The suspense was what I liked. The director was good with that aspect and without the suspense I would not have stuck around till the end of this movie. The director mixed the suspense with a little tension which made me want to see the movie till the end.

From what I said above, the director of this movie also wrote the script. In my opinion, the script or the storyline was not well written. At the end of the movie, I was left with one question in my head, what is the meaning of this movie?. I couldn't answer the question because the story of this movie was so bad that it didn't have any impact and it wasn't engaging.

I didn't know what the director was thinking when he wrote the movie. It wasn't convincing and it was just generic. It is a story that has been told a lot of times under the horror genre. There was nothing unique or new about the story of the movie. To make matters worse, the director tagged the movie horror. Meanwhile, it is actually a psychological thriller (a boring one).

The directorial style was lazy work because the story of the movie was executed with the mission to tie loose ends with an easy way out, something that was easily predicted by the viewers. The scene arrangements were a mess that it could throw off the viewers and they will begin to wonder what the story of the movie was all about. The location was okay but then the camera work destroyed the scenery for me. There was no proper lighting and there were a lot of obscure scenes that were not filmed properly.

The Cast performance was not engaging and encouraging at all. Their performances were not convincing and it seemed as if they were all amateurs in acting. Each character in the movie was portrayed weakly and I couldn't connect with them. Also, there are some unnecessary background stories about some of the characters that were not supposed to be added to the movie.

Would I recommend this film to movie lovers? The answer is no. I wouldn't because it's a waste of time, it's a badly executed movie and the storyline is insignificant.

Rating this movie, I will give it 2 out of 10 stars. It was a terrible movie. I didn't enjoy it. It wasn't entertaining and it wasn't horrific as a horror movie should be.

Lol. Two out of ten stars is pretty harsh. But then, with this review, I can totally understand why. It does look boring and rather vague with what the movie's real intentions are or rather, what it's trying to instill.
So no, I wouldn't watch it. Had enough of horrible movies for a while. Nicely reviewed.💜

Yes, it was that bad. The movie lacked intentions hence why the story arc was absolutely a mess. I wouldn't advice you to watch it though. Thank you for the visit and comment.
