Entertaining! Enola Holmes (2020) || Movie Review
It's been a while since I posted here, not that I couldn't post but my head was not in the right space. Losing someone very dear to your heart can make you almost give up on life. Now, I can say, I am okay a bit and ready to create content to the best of my ability.
So to start up my content I watched a movie yesterday to take my mind off things a little. I watched 'Enola Holmes (2020)'. I have had this movie on my TV for a very long time, but I couldn't just make up my mind to watch it. Yesterday, I made up my mind and watched it and all I can say is why haven't I watched this all this while. It was entertaining and enjoyable. Enola Holmes is a movie that challenges gender norms, advocates for women's rights and also portrays societal problems. I am happy I made up my mind to watch the movie at last.
'Enola Holmes (2020)' is a mystery movie that was distributed by Netflix and it is adapted from Nancy Springer's first book series titled 'The Case of the Missing Marquess: An Enola Holmes Mystery'. It is a movie that revolves around the Victorian age and it was directed by Harry Bradbeer. It was also written by Jack Thorne. The movie starred Millie Bobby Brown, Sam Claflin, Henry Cavill, Helena Bonham Carter, and Fiona Shaw.
Brief Summary Of The Plot.
Enola Holmes, a young, brilliant, and resilient beautiful girl who was home schooled by her mother Eudoria who taught her everything from chess, to science and to jujutsu. She taught her daughter to be a strong-willed woman and a woman who knows her societal values and rights. Unfortunately, on Enola's sixteen birthday, she woke up excited only to discover that her mother had gone missing. Leaving behind some coded message only Enola can unravel along with some huge amount of money.
However, Enola thought she would be alone forever until a week later she went to meet her two brothers Mycroft and Sherlock at the train station. Mycroft is her guardian but wasn't impressed with how their mother had brought up Enola. Then he decided to send her to a finishing school for ladies against her will which is managed by the ridgid Miss Harrison. On the other hand, Sherlock sees Enola for who she is, brilliant, independent, smart, resilient and strong-willed.
Determined to not adhere to Mycroft's decision for her life, Enola unravels her mother's left behind messages and money. Afterwards she decided that she was going to look for missing her mother in London disguising as a young lad. On the train to London, Enola met a young boy, Viscount Tewkesbury hiding in a travel bag to escape from his family. As their part intertwined, Enola got mixed up with his enemies. Will Enola find her mother? Will she survive the hustle of London city?
My Favorite Characters.
Millie Bobby Brown as Enola Holmes
I love Enola's characters so much and I am so impressed with how Millie portrayed the character so flawlessly and naturally. It was exceptional for me. I enjoyed her role so much. Millie did a fantastic job of capturing the wit, knowledge, resilience and independence of Enola, which made her a compelling and likable protagonist. Her commanding narration in the movie also helps with maintaining viewers' interest all through the movie's duration.
Henry Cavill as Sherlock
Being one of my favorite actors in Hollywood, hehe, I enjoyed his performance in this movie. I was able to see him portray a different role from the one I am used to seeing him always. He acted as the second brother to Enola. A well known detective in the whole city of London and even his scenes were minimal he was still able to steal the spotlight for me.
Fiona Shaw as Miss Harrison
For me, Miss Harrison's character was the comic relief. She was strict and at the same time fun to watch, though sometimes she was annoying but really some of her mannerisms made me laugh a little. Fiona did an amazing job with this character and her performance was just realistic and good.
Helena Bonham Carter as Eudoria
Eudoria's character was actually the mystery of the movie. She was the star regardless of the fact that we got a little of her presence. There were a lot of backstories that I wanted to know but they were not explored so as to heighted the mystery tension of the movie. Helena portrayed her role excellently well and her presence was well felt in the movie.
My Review And Rating.
I love so many things about this movie which I will talk about a few briefly. This movie gives a fresh perspective on the Holmes universe. Though there have been so many works adapted from the Holmes universe, Enola offers a new story from another member of the Holmes family and allows the audience to see mystery solved from another angle. Also, I like that this movie focuses on feminist themes through Enola's character. From the story of the movie, they were able to explore all the challenges and problems women face back in the Victorian age when women were only seen as a baby making machine.
The plot was well written with unique narrative techniques which made the movie very different from others and engaging. I was hooked right from the beginning of the movie because the mystery started right from beginning up till the end when everything unraveled. The scenes were excellently arranged to merge with the dialogues, characters, mystery, and the setting (Victorian era). The plot also has some interesting twists and turns which kept me glued to the screen anticipating the end.
The cinematic presentation was exceptional. I love the way everything about the movie, down to even clothings and location, was created in a beautiful way. It was well detailed that it easily transported me into the Victorian age easily with any conflicting emotions. The visuals were crystal clear, good lighting, and above all a neat wardrobe for the cast.
The chemistry between actors was very noticeable in a good way. Their performances were good and each character entertained me. I love this movie, enjoyed it and I can't wait to watch the second sequel and read the book series very soon. Rating this movie, I will give it 4.8 out 5 stars and I will add to the list of the movies I have enjoyed so much this year. I highly recommend this movie for my mystery lovers.

Thank you for visiting and supporting my blog 🤗
I too took some time to watch this first "Enola Holmes" movie; it was until a week before the release of the second film that I decided to watch this very entertaining and surprising Netflix production.
Millie Bobby Brown, is perfect in her interpretation, she is a good protagonist, very brave, determined and funny and I was surprised that this year will not be released a third part and if a film that I fear can repeat the interpretation that she did in this film; the film that I refer to is called "Damsel" and is released this year on Netflix.
I don't want to say goodbye without saying that I am very sorry for your lost and from the long distance I wish you a lot of strength and I hope that creating content is a way to feel better.
When I found out the third part won't be released anymore this year, I was sad but I am watching the second sequel and it's quite interesting. I am not Suprised the movie Damsel is adopting Enola unique styles and techniques. I hope it will be worth the time. I will be looking out for the movie.
Thank you so much for your words of comfort, I truly appreciate it. I will keep creating Content as I heal. Thank you for commenting.
I'm sorry you lost a dear one and I understand how that could hinder your mental stability for a while, but I'm glad you're back. And you chose a wonderful movie too.
I watched Enola Holmes around the beginning of this year together with its sequel and I wasn't disappointed. Not in the least bit. I think it's one of the few movies whose sequel was just as enjoyable as the first.
There was such acute sense of humour and intrigue in it, it was perfect and your wonderful review would make anyone want to watch it as well.
Again, glad to have you back @esther-emmanuel 🤗
Thank you. Enola was a good movie to actually start with. I am glad I chose it. It brightened my mood. I agree with you that this movie is quite intriguing and interesting. Glad you enjoyed it too when you watched it. Thank you for your kind comment, I appreciate your visit. 🤗
This was a very detailed review. Enola seems to be a very interesting character. Seems like a fun movie of mystery.
En mi opinión personal la segunda estuvo mucho mejor ya que se desarrolla bastante el personaje y conecta más con la audiencia.
