Don't Watch The Trailer! Abigail (2024) || Movie Review
This movie was a whole lot of fun for me. I was laughing all through from the beginning till the end and some of the actors are people that have brought me joy from their last movies. I was so happy and thrilled to see them again in this movie and their performances were exceptional as usual.
If you know me well, you will know by now that, anything paranormal, I always love to watch or read them. When I saw that this movie is a vampire film, I quickly stream without giving it a second thought. I love and enjoy vampire films a lot. The last vampire films I watched were Morbius (2022) and Renfield (2023). Both movies were thrilling and super interesting.
’Abigail (2024)’ an American horror film that was distributed by Universal Studios. It was directed by Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett from the screenplay written by Stephen Shields and Guy Busick. I say in my opinion that comedy should be added to the genre this movie is made of.
The movie is majorly about a skilled and highly recommended group of kidnappers who captured a twelve year old girl of a very powerful underworld figure while demanding a fifty million ransom. This movie starred Melissa Barrera, Dan Stevens, Kathryn Newton, Will Catlett, Kevin Durand, Angus Cloud, Alisha Weir, Giancarlo Esposito and Matthew Goode. To minimize any kind of spoilers, I won't be talking about the plot of the movie.
My Favorite Characters.
Dan Stevens as Frank
Dan is an amazing actor who has acted several movies, but I got to like his work when he starred as ’Matthew Crawley’ in the TV series ’Downton Abbey’ and the live action of ’Beauty and the Beast’. In the movie, he put out his best and funny performance. I say it's funny because it was difficult for me to take him as a serious villain. He was quite ruthless, brutal and unpredictable. He indeed acted well as a former police detective. I enjoyed watching him.
Alisha Weir as Abigail
I say Alisha is the spotlight of this movie. She was an eerie presence that with each of her scenes, there was impact. She became unforgettable. steals every scene. What I particularly enjoyed about her performance in this movie was her dancing, flexibility, her charm, and her ability to instantly switch between a charming innocence and unsettling eerie menace. This brought out the tension of the storyline. I say her performance was amazing!
Matthew Goode as Kristof Lazaar
Matthew’s scene in this movie is just one. He appeared once. Regardless of the fact he appeared once, he came and spiced up the movie more. When I saw it, I thought the movie had just begun, but it actually just ended. I guess they saved him for the last act and that was brilliant! All through the movie, his character was elusive, he was the infamous crime lord and Abigail's father. I got to like Matthew when he starred as a vampire in a romance fantasy series, A Discovery of Witches and the movie Chasing Liberty (2004).
The rest of the actors were good but their performance was not really that impactful for me. However, I enjoyed watching them, they were all entertaining and talented. Their humor was not dry.
My Review And Rating.
’Abigail was a crowd-pleaser from start to finish. It is a fast-paced movie fully packed with laughable moments that are not forgettable. I say this movie was a good tribute to our amazing star Angus Cloud who died before the movie was completed.
If you want to watch this movie, I plead with you not to watch the trailer, read reviews with spoilers or read negative reviews. Just go and watch this movie blindly and you will thank me for it. The trailer was a big mistake by the distributors. They messed it all and destroyed the audience expectation with many spoilers included in the trailer. I wish they had released this movie without any trailer. Infact, all movies shouldn't release any trailer before its premise. It keeps intact the element of surprise and performance of the movie.
The plot was well written and it was beautifully filmed. I love that this movie was packed with some twisted revenge game, mystery and action. Let's not forget about that comedy that was included. This made the movie very enjoyable to watch and it was entertaining. The characters were well developed with good and expressive backstories.
The scene arrangements were amazing all through. I love how there was a real mix of styles which made the movie goofy, funny, well paced, and also with lots of jump scares. The camera work was excellent, the visual clear and good. The various sounds used were befitting.
Rating this movie, I will give it 8.7 out of 10 stars. It was an entertaining, and thrilling movie. I enjoyed it and it was a refreshing experience for me. I would recommend this movie to horror and paranormal lovers. I will not be attaching the trailer of this movie because of spoilers.

Haven't seen it and I think classifying a horror movie as funny isn't real a good thing 😂😂😂😂
This one is good. I would call this a mild, goofy kind of horror. I hope you see it soon, yes?
Some of my favorite horror films are funny!!! Cabin in the Woods and Tuck and Dale vs Evil are examples of that. 😂
You do you, though 😎
Ah! Cabin in the woods that one was quite funny to me regardless that it was suppose to be horrific. I think I will check out Dale vs evil. Thanks for the visit
Friend I'm glad you had such a good time, when I saw it on the billboard I thought it would bring huge horror, but I see it's more comedy than horror, I'll have to see it to see how funny it can be.😃🤗😘
Hello my friend ♥. I thought it was horrific too at first, but when I saw it, it was a mild horror mixed with some comedy. I hope you get to see it soon. Thank you for your visit and comment. I appreciate it. 😊🤗💕
I used to love horror movies as a kid but it's been more than 10 years since I watched one. I heard lots of pros and cons about Abigail though.
Then I think this movie will rejuvenate back your interest in horror. You will love, its lighthearted, easy flow, good humor and good twist. I hope you see it. Thank you for stopping by.
Thanks so much for your review!
I like movies that make me laugh, so I will try to find and watch it (before seeing the trailer :))

I am glad my review convinced you. I hope you see it soon happy watching my friend.
It was an interesting film. It had its funny moments, but the internal family fighting was an interesting twist. As a vampire film, it is unique.
Yes the fights between the crew was where the tension was and thebtwists. Thank you for stopping by.
I'm going to follow your advice and not watch any trailer, although reading your review I don't fully comply with your recommendation, however, it helped me decide to see it, I've been seeing for several days that it's available but the truth is I'm not such a fan of vampires, maybe because of what twilight caused, I'm more of Blade's style. I like that it combines humor, that catches my attention
I get it. I loved blade. It will always be the best vampire film in history. Its okay if you don't fully comply with my recommendation. We all have things we like and have interest in. I hope you get to see the movie and enjoy it. Thank you for visiting and commenting.
I have not seen him but I appreciate the suggestion. Many times we get carried away by the trails and become disenchanted. Those details about the movie are important not to stop watching it. Best regards.
Alright, now I'm kind of divided LOL. On one side I no longer believe in horror movies. It's been a long time since the last time I enjoyed this kind of movies. But reading your post I get the feeling that this one is not just horror but laughter and good performances. On the other side I trust your movie taste, so I'm kinda considering going to the cinema and watch it. I haven't seen the trailer yet, so the plot would be a surprise.
Great post, greetings.
Ah! You will definitely enjoy this one alot as long as you don't watch the trailer before going to see the movie. I hope you enjoy this one. Thank you for stopping by.
