Bones And All (2022) || Movie Review.

I had this movie on my watchlist for such a long time that I had almost forgotten about it. I don't know what to feel about this movie but all I can say is that this movie left me speechless, confused and stunned.

I've heard a lot of good remarks about Timothée Chalamet as an actor but this is my actual first time watching any of his movies. From his performance, I agree with all I have heard about him, however, I still don't like him and I don't think I will be watching any of his movies soon.

’Bones And All (2022)’ is a romantic horror film that was written by David Kajganich based on the 2015 novel Bones & All by Camille DeAngelis. The movie was directed by Luca Guadagnino and it was distributed by Warner Bros with two other distributing companies. The storyline of this movie revolves around a young lady who discovers she is a cannibal. So she decided to journey to Minnesota to find her mother but then encountered a young boy who is like her too.

The movie starred Taylor Russell, Timothée Chalamet, Mark Rylance, Chloë Sevigny, David Gordon Green, Kendle Coffey, and André Holland.

Maren, a young girl who was living with her father in Maryland one day displayed some cannibalistic traits when she sneaked off to a sleepover with her classmates against her father's wish. Frank her father had no option than for them to relocate as they have been since her early years. Her father was discouraged because she had no remorse after such an atrocity.

So he abandons her shortly after her eighteenth birthday. Leaving her with some cash, her birth certificate and a cassette recording of how her cannibalistic behavior began. In the recording, Frank hopes that Maren some day will have remorse and probably change her ways/diet, but is that the case?

Confused, abandoned, Maren decides to travel to Minnesota to find her mother who left when she was baby. She got the bus ticket and left Maryland. Afterwards, at a bus station, she was approached by an old man named Sully. Who introduced him as a fellow cannibal and told her that he smelled her. Unsettling how that encounter was, Maren leaves this man and continues her journey on her own. Will she be able to find her mother? What other challenges will she encounter on the way?

My Review And Rating.

Watching this movie, it was unclear what message the movie was trying to convey. I didn't learn anything from this movie and I think this movie was purely made for entertainment purpose only.

I don't have much to say about this movie because I barely sat down comfortably to finish this movie. The storyline/plot was well written. I love the fact that it was set in the 1980s. Dialogues were well written, unhinged and fully packed with emotions of the characters that got to the audience even with them realizing it.

However, a flaw I saw about the plot is that the adapted screenplay beats around the bush about the moral implications of these cannibalistic characters' actions without ever really nailing down a purpose for it all.

The characters were built well but lack the ability to connect with the viewer (me). I never really felt anything because of the characters. I could connect especially emotionally. They all just seem to move on from everything that occured in the movie like nothing happened at all.

The Cast however, were good with their performances. They all did perfectly well regardless of how the script was soulless. The scene arrangements were good, the cinematography was excellent. I loved the haunting, gothic midwestern locations that were used in the film.

Was the movie interesting to me?

No. It wasn't. It wasn't entertaining to me either. I felt like I was watching a dystopian film that has no life to it. It didn't get the message the movie was trying to convey. At the time, I was bored and I wanted to give up on the movie and not finish it, but Chalamet’ s made me finish the movie.

Rating this movie, I will give 5 out of 10 stars. I didn't really enjoy the movie. Would I recommend this movie, yes I would. Regardless of the fact that I didn't enjoy it, someone else will. I have come to the conclusion that, this movie wasn't for me.

I really liked this movie 😃

For me it's a Coming of Age with very good horror elements; everything about cannibalism and the "tribe" or group that practices it fascinated me completely and each of the actors who prove to be cannibals, are among the best of the film although if I agree that Chalamet is not the best of the film and when the story is told or leans towards his character, it loses some interest and is that unfortunately there is no or no perceived chemistry between the actors, but as I said is a simple story of a young woman with a certain appetite and decides to discover the world and its true origin.

It's always captivating when a film delves into darker, more complex themes while still maintaining an engaging storyline, but the story wasn't engaging to me. Also, you are right. There was no chemistry between the actors. I began to lose interest in the second act. Thank you for visiting. I appreciate your time here.

5 stars out of 10? 😄 I didn't mind the gory scenes but they are nauseating and thankfully my stomach was empty of food at the time I watched it. The plot is fascinating actually. It touches on themes of love and uniqueness. The couple are unique (cannibals) and their society is wary of accepting them. The cast did great.

The themes you mentioned, made me push through to finish watching the movie. True the plot was fascinating, but I just couldn't relate with movie or the actors. Regardless the Cast performanced well. I appreciate your comment. Thank you for taking the time to read my review. 😊!PIZZA

Too bad the movie was this bad. I don't understand why there are directors who do that, like making a movie for the sake of making it with so much emptiness and no reason to be. I would have given it a chance but I don't think I will. Thanks so much for sharing your opinion!
