Christmas films mostly always revolve around family, Christmas miracles, romance, and royal stories. So most of the time, Christmas movies is easily predictable, tiring, boring and cliché. Life is not always sweet and filled with happy moments. That's why I love to mix up my Christmas movies with Christmas themed thrillers or horror films. It is always fun that way for me.

For this entry to the Movies & TV Community Contest, I will talk about two Christmas movies that have three things in common, which are revenge, gore, and justice. If you have a faint heart and you are easily triggered by blood, don't ruin your holiday by watching them.

Violent Night (2022).

This movie was one of the movies that made my Christmas last year pretty interesting regardless of the fact that a lot of boring festive movies that were released. It is one of my favorite Christmas movies from last year. It wasn't just an ordinary festive movie but it was a flawless reference combination of Die Hard and Home Alone together. The idea of having Santa be the hero and fight bad guys in a bloody way was truly amazing and thrilling to watch.

Violent Night is an American Christmas-themed action comedy movie that starred David Harbour as Santa Claus, one of the lead characters together with other supporting actors like; Cam Gigandet, John Leguizamo, Alex Hassell, Alexis Louder, Edi Patterson, and Leah Brady. It was written by Pat Casey and Josh Miller and was directed by Tommy Wirkola.

The storyline of the movie is about a group of organized mercenaries that came to steal a large amount of money from a rich family estate called Lightstone. However, Santa Claus who is getting detached from being a Santa is beginning to lose hope in humanity, but coincidentally, Santa came to the Lightstone estate to deliver presents but he got carried away with delicious cookies and vintage wine he found in the estate.

Fate already had another plan for Santa to be useful and not feel hopeless anymore. So Santa treats him to some nice vintage wine and cookies that he sleeps off a massage chair. Suddenly, all hell breaks loose when the mercenaries begin their operation. From the turbulence of the violence the mercenaries caused, Santa's reindeer flew away leaving him with no means to get away. Santa had no choice but to stay behind and fight off the mercenaries. The fun of the movie began there after.

I loved and enjoyed this movie a lot when I saw it. It was not the kind of plot I’d expected at the time. It was a pleasant surprise and it was satisfying to watch. The movie was an extremely violent and funny Christmas-themed movie slasher, spiced up with a Savage Santa Claus who is the badass hero of the movie. Tommy Wirkola, the director of the movie did an amazing job, especially the scene arrangements, stunts, cinematography, soundtracks, the bloody kills, the selection of the cast and finally the filming location.

David Harbour was INCREDIBLE in his role and this movie equally captured the Christmas spirit regardless of the gore and violence. Will you see this movie? Or Have you seen it before?

Silent Night (2023).

IMG_20231226_105516.jpg

Firstly, I would like to condemn all those who rated this movie harshly and negatively. I get it. John Woo was the director and you were definitely expecting an unbelievable action film that will spin your head upside down while not having any hint of reality in it. That's okay! But don't destroy a work of art that took hours, days and months of dedication to bring to life. We humans are hardly pleased or satisfied.

What I said above might hit home hard to some of you, but I want you to know that you need to relax, and accept that nothing can be perfect in this life. Let's not forget, we are all not perfect. Also, criticism is always welcome, but when they are harsh and meant to destroy someone's hard work, I don't see it as criticism.

*Silent Night’ is a controversial movie that has many people regretting why they saw it in the first place and also, saying John Woo’s work was a disappointment. Well, in my opinion this movie was not a disappointment but was an emotional film which a lot of all those that negatively criticized it were people who don't want to be associated with human emotions.

This movie is an action thriller movie that was released during the festive period which a lot of people assumed to be a Christmas movie that would give them a happy ending. Well, it isn't, but for me it was because during the Christmas period not everyone celebrates it in a warm, cozy, happy environment. Some celebrate in sadness, grief, violence incidents and accidents. Therefore they would always remember that particular Christmas as a sad one.

’Silent Night’ was written by Robert Archer Lynn and co-produced by John Woo and four other producers. It is a movie that has limited spoken dialogue. I would call it a mute film that captured grief excellently. This movie starred Joel Kinnaman, Scott Mescudi, Kid Cudi, Harold Torres, Yoko Hamamura and Catalina Sandino Moreno. The story revolves around a grieving father who lost his only son during a gang war and who is hell bent on taking revenge on the gang members on Christmas Eve.

I totally enjoyed this movie a lot. It was filmed in a unique way. Limited dialogue but I didn't notice until I was almost done with the movie. The plot was well written. It was fully packed with natural action stunts that one would expect from a father and construction worker who is out to avenge his son's death. Revenge was served cold and unexpected. It was savage and brutal. The setting was properly done. The scenes of a grieving father were captured excellently regardless that the main actor lost his voice during the incident that killed his son.

This movie was worth my time, I enjoyed it, it was a delightful treat for me. John Woo and other producers did a wonderful job with this movie. It was convincing, believable and emotional. Also, I want to commend Joel Kinnaman, he acted his part well, and he blended into his character seamlessly.

Will you see this movie and ignore all the negative reviews? Don't go to see this movie with high expectations of Bruce kind of action because the main character in this movie is a father and construction worker, not John Wick or Denzel Washington.

Your reviews totally got me hooked! "Violent Night" sounds like this crazy mashup of Die Hard and Home Alone, with Santa kicking butt – how awesome is that? David Harbour as Santa must've been a riot. And "Silent Night" seems like it brings a different vibe to Christmas movies, with its emotional and revenge-driven plot. Your take on not letting harsh reviews ruin the experience is spot on. I'm definitely giving these a watch for a fresh twist on holiday movies!

Silent Night I have not seen it. But I think I'll give it a chance, if it's action and not so much Christmas, I think it's worth a watch. I saw the first one and was disappointed. I was expecting something more.

The Christmas spirit being shown from another perspective (which, by the way, is very interesting).
