Nowhere | Cine TV Contest #107 - Favorite Movie About the Ocean | [ENG/ESP]
How would you survive lost in the ocean, drifting in the middle of nowhere? This was the proposal with which director Albert Pintó (Matar a Dios) conquered the audience within the Netflix platform, making his film also one of the most popular titles in Spanish.
A story of overcoming that not only moved me as a viewer, but also the audience in 35 languages, and that is a direct, almost simple movie that wants to entertain above all.
With all the impossible twists so typical of a genre like survival that tries to keep you glued to the screen at all times, suffering for a protagonist who, in the best of cases, the plot makes him go through a real hell.
Like the character of Mía, played by Ana Castillo, who manages to make us empathize with this young pregnant woman fleeing a totalitarian regime in a dystopian world, overpopulated and without resources, where life has lost all value and being a mother is a crime punishable by death.
This beginning, with its tinge of social criticism, may seem like a simple formality, an excuse for Mia to end up trapped in a shipping container, giving birth alone in the middle of the ocean.
So for the rest of the movie, the actress is solely responsible for carrying the weight of the story, not only to keep the container afloat, but also to keep the viewer interested as we see her character evolve, improve, or acquire skills that will allow both her and her baby to survive.
A complicated challenge that the actress overcomes with a performance that captivates the audience and is a fundamental part of her success.
Coupled with a direction and a screenplay that seemingly with very little and without excesses manages to exploit keeping all the keys of the genre, giving us a story that knows how to connect with the audience.

¿Cómo sobrevivirías perdido en el océano, a la deriva en medio de la nada? Esta fue la propuesta con la que el director Albert Pintó (Matar a Dios) conquistó a la audiencia dentro de la plataforma Netflix, convirtiendo su película además en uno de los títulos más populares en castellano.
Una historia de superación que no sólo me emocionó a mí como espectador, sino también al público en 35 idiomas, y que es una película directa, casi sencilla, que busca entretener por encima de todo.
Con todos los giros imposibles tan típicos de un género como el de Supervivencia que intenta mantenerte pegado a la pantalla en todo momento, sufriendo por un protagonista al que, en el mejor de los casos, la trama le hace pasar por un auténtico infierno.
Como le ocurre al personaje de Mía, interpretado por Ana Castillo, que consigue que empaticemos con esta joven embarazada que huye de un régimen totalitario en un mundo distópico, superpoblado y sin recursos, donde la vida ha perdido todo su valor y ser madre es un crimen condenado con la muerte.
Este comienzo, con su tinte de crítica social, puede parecer una simple formalidad, una excusa para que Mia acabe atrapada en un contenedor marítimo, dando a luz sola en medio del océano.
Así de esta forma, durante el resto de la película, la actriz es la única responsable de llevar el peso de la historia, no sólo para mantener el contenedor a flote, sino también para hacer que el espectador siga interesado mientras vemos cómo su personaje evoluciona, mejora o adquiere habilidades que le permitirán sobrevivir tanto a ella como a su bebé.
Un reto complicado que la actriz supera con una interpretación que engancha al espectador y que es parte fundamental de su éxito.
Unido a una dirección y un guión que aparentemente con muy poco y sin excesos consigue explotar manteniendo todas las claves del género, regalándonos una historia que consigue conectar con el público.

Recuerdo cuando salió esta película en Nesflis pero en aquellos tiempo la plataforma tenía un récord de películas que dejaban mucho que desear así que temía perder mi tiempo viendo una mala película así que la ignoré pero ahora que leo tu reseña voy a darle una oportunidad. Saludos.
