🎬 Movie Review: Tarot of Death (2024) [ES/EN]

¡Hola amigos! En el día de hoy les quiero hablar sobre una película de terror que tenía muchas ganas de ver desde que supe de su existencia porque trata de una temática de mi interés, aunque al ser una película de terror iba con las expectativas muy bajas y sabiendo de antemano que podía ser muy mala. Así que acá les traigo la reseña de la película Tarot de la muerte.

Hello friends! Today I want to talk about a horror movie that I really wanted to see since I knew of its existence because it deals with a subject of my interest, although being a horror movie I was going with very low expectations and knowing in advance that it could be very bad. So here I bring you the review of the movie Tarot of Death.

Un grupo de jóvenes amigos alquilan una casa en medio de la nada para festejar el cumpleaños de una de sus amigas. En el transcurso de la noche se quedan sin alcohol y deciden investigar el lugar para ver si encuentran más. Al llegar a una puerta que estaba cerrada con candado y con un cartel de prohibido el paso, deciden ingresar y se encuentran con un sótano que guarda objetos astrológicos antiguos, allí les llama la atención una caja que contiene cartas de tarot muy siniestras y la cumpleañera le pide a una de sus amigas que sabe leer cartas que se las lea. Al aceptar, se preparan para la sesión y les lee sus fortunas a cada uno relacionándolos con sus signos zodiacales y una carta de destino final a la que deberán prestar atención. Al día siguiente, uno a uno empiezan a morir en aparentes accidentes hasta que se dan cuenta que están muriendo como les indicaron sus lecturas. Ahí empieza la carrera a contrarreloj para intentar terminar con la maldición que contrajeron antes de que sus destinos se hagan realidad.

A group of young friends rent a house in the middle of nowhere to celebrate the birthday of one of their friends. During the course of the night they run out of alcohol and decide to investigate the place to see if they can find more. Arriving at a door that was padlocked and with a no trespassing sign, they decide to enter and find a basement that holds ancient astrological objects, there they are struck by a box containing very sinister tarot cards and the birthday girl asks one of her friends who can read cards to read them for her. When she accepts, they prepare for the session and she reads their fortunes to each of them relating them to their zodiac signs and a final destiny card to which they must pay attention. The next day, one by one they begin to die in apparent accidents until they realize that they are dying as indicated by their readings. There begins the race against time to try to end the curse they contracted before their destinies come true.

La trama de las cartas del tarot cobrando vida para hacer valer sus designios me llamó mucho la atención, me hizo acordar un poco a Destino final, pero de alguna manera sabía que no iba a estar bien ejecutada. La historia era buena, pero como suele pasar en este tipo de género, se quedó corta.

The plot of the tarot cards coming to life to enforce their designs really caught my attention, it reminded me a bit of Final Destination, but somehow I knew it wasn't going to be well executed. The story was good, but as is often the case in this type of genre, it fell short.

Para empezar, no me gustó la actuación del grupo de amigos, sentí que estaban muy desconectados de la realidad que estaban viviendo. Como si no les estuviera pasando una desgracia, en el sentido de que se los veía bastante bien y haciendo chistes a pesar de que se les iban muriendo los amigos. También estaban muy determinados a romper la maldición, no note mucho miedo de su parte, pero cometían errores estúpidos y sin sentido, como el de quedarse solos.

To begin with, I didn't like the performance of the group of friends, I felt that they were very disconnected from the reality they were living. As if there was no misfortune happening to them, in the sense that they seemed quite well and making jokes despite the fact that their friends were dying. They were also very determined to break the curse, I didn't notice much fear on their part, but they were making stupid and senseless mistakes, like staying alone.

Hubo uno en particular que fue el típico personaje humorístico que terminó salvando el día, que no sé cómo logró escapar de su destino porque en un momento dejó de aparecer hasta el final. La explicación que dieron fue media agarrada de los pelos. No lo sé, Rick. Igual les digo que fue muy predecible, yo sabía que iba a sobrevivir desde el momento en que le hicieron su lectura.

There was one in particular who was the typical humorous character who ended up saving the day, who I don't know how he managed to escape his fate because at one point he stopped appearing until the end. The explanation they gave was a bit of a cliffhanger. I don't know, Rick. I'll tell you anyway, it was very predictable, I knew he was going to survive from the moment he got his reading.

La historia detrás de la maldición de las cartas fue lo más interesante de la película, una historia de venganza y rencores pasados. Al menos tuvo una buena resolución del conflicto, aunque fue todo muy apresurado y eso le jugo en contra también, no hubo profundidad en el desenlace.

The story behind the curse of the cards was the most interesting part of the film, a story of revenge and past grudges. At least it had a good resolution of the conflict, although it was all very rushed and that also worked against it, there was no depth in the denouement.

La película tuvo muchos errores y pocos aciertos. No me generó terror, ni momentos de sustos o escenas impactantes en sí. Así que estuvo medio pelo, tirando a mala. Pero de alguna manera me resultó entretenida y hasta humorística en algunos momentos.

The film had many mistakes and few successes. It didn't generate me terror, nor moments of scares or shocking scenes in itself. So it was average, bordering on bad. But somehow I found it entertaining and even humorous at times.

En fin, una película de la que no esperaba nada, pero al menos no sentí que perdí el tiempo viéndola. Sin dudas, prefiero seguir leyendo las cartas con mazos de gatitos y con las cartas Sakura que son mucho más lindas y para nada siniestras.

Anyway, a movie from which I didn't expect anything, but at least I didn't feel like I wasted my time watching it. Without a doubt, I prefer to continue reading the cards with decks of kittens and Sakura cards, which are much cuter and not at all sinister.
