First Movie Review of The Year: Leo [ES/EN]

¡Hola amigos! Antes que nada les deseo a todos un feliz y próspero año nuevo. Ahora sí, les presento mi primera reseña del año que es de una película que tenía pendiente de ver. Así que aquí les comparto mi opinión sobre la película animada llamada Leo.

Hello friends! First of all I wish you all a happy and prosperous new year. Now yes, I present to you my first review of the year which is of a movie that I had pending to see. So here I share with you my opinion about the animated movie called Leo.

Un lagarto llamado Leo y su compañero de hábitat, la tortuga Squirtle, son las mascotas del último grado de una escuela que se preparan para conocer a los próximos estudiantes de ese año. Un año que pinta ser muy distinto, ya que llega una maestra sustituta que aparenta ser muy rígida y estricta. Esta maestra les pide a los alumnos cada viernes que alguno se lleve a una de estas mascotas, la cuide por el fin de semana y la traiga sana y salva el próximo lunes. Con este panorama, Leo planea su libertad porque quiere conocer el mundo antes de morir. Aunque sus planes se ven alterados al descubrir que estos niños necesitan de su ayuda y es así como se termina encariñando con ellos y decide ayudarlos a superar este último año escolar impartiendo su sabiduría.

A lizard named Leo and his habitat companion, the turtle Squirtle, are the mascots of the last grade of a school preparing to meet the next students of that year. A year that looks to be very different, as a substitute teacher arrives who appears to be very rigid and strict. This teacher asks the students every Friday to take one of these pets, take care of it for the weekend and bring it back safe and sound the next Monday. With this scenario, Leo plans his freedom because he wants to see the world before he dies. However, his plans are altered when he discovers that these children need his help and this is how he ends up getting attached to them and decides to help them overcome this last school year by imparting his wisdom.

No es un secreto que les tengo mucho cariño a las películas animadas, sin embargo, siento que no vi muchas en el año que pasó y eso me dejó pensando en que debería retomar los pendientes. Por eso decidí ver esta, ya que recordé algunas reseñas que leí por aquí que me llamaron la atención y quise comprobarla por mi misma. Fue una muy buena elección. Me reí muchísimo con esta película, es muy divertida. Tiene ese humor que no es que sea gracioso, pero da risa viendo todo el contexto.

It's no secret that I'm very fond of animated movies, however, I feel that I didn't see many in the past year and that left me thinking that I should take up the pending ones. That's why I decided to see this one, as I remembered some reviews I read around here that caught my attention and wanted to check it out for myself. It was a very good choice. I laughed a lot with this movie, it is very funny. It has that humor that is not that funny, but it makes you laugh seeing the whole context.

A uno como adulto le puede parecer una pavada algunos problemas e inseguridades de los niños, pero también hay que saber escucharlos y comprenderlos para no seguir agrandando el problema. Ya que para ellos es muy importante sentirse contenidos y valorados. A veces solo necesitan un empujón en la dirección correcta y eso es lo que encontraron en este animalito tan peculiar y muy sabio llamado Leo.

As an adult, some of the children's problems and insecurities may seem silly to you, but you must also know how to listen to them and understand them so as not to continue to aggravate the problem. It is very important for them to feel contained and valued. Sometimes they just need a push in the right direction and that is what they found in this peculiar and very wise animal called Leo.

Esta sabiduría también despertó la envidia de nuestro amigo el tortugo que se sintió desplazado y poco querido porque los niños preferían a Leo. Aunque tuvo su momento de redención, al igual que la maestra sustituta que se dejó encandilar por los elogios que no le correspondían a ella sabiendo la verdad de todo. Pero fueron buenos antagonistas mientras duro.

This wisdom also aroused the envy of our friend the turtle who felt displaced and unloved because the children preferred Leo. Although he had his moment of redemption, as did the substitute teacher who let herself be dazzled by the praise that did not correspond to her knowing the truth of everything. But they were good antagonists while it lasted.

La carga emotiva tampoco se hizo esperar, aunque considero que es una película más divertida que emotiva, pero no pueden faltar esos momentos donde se me quiere salir una lágrima. Casi me atragante de risa cuando vi cómo representaban a los alumnos más pequeños, estuvo increíble porque realmente se puede llegar a sentir así de avasallador cuando son muchos y tan pequeños, y se te vienen todos encima.

The emotional charge was not long in coming, although I consider it to be a film that is more fun than emotional, but you can't miss those moments where I want to shed a tear. I almost choked with laughter when I saw how they represented the youngest students, it was incredible because you can really feel so overwhelming when there are so many and so small, and they all come at you.

También tiene un trasfondo profundo y oculto que tiene que ver con lo que hacemos con nuestras vidas y como al final de esta nos vamos dando cuenta que quizá no hicimos todo lo que queríamos hacer y nos agarra el impulso de querer hacerlo todo en el momento y no es así. Quizá esos sueños o deseos que tuvimoe se vieron modificados con el tiempo y no es que no lo hicimos, es que comprendimos que no eran tan urgentes, además llegaron otros más importantes por el camino. Continuamente estamos cambiando de parecer en la vida y eso me parece bien.

It also has a deep and hidden background that has to do with what we do with our lives and how at the end of it we realize that maybe we did not do everything we wanted to do and we get the impulse to want to do everything at the moment and it is not so. Maybe those dreams or desires that we had were modified over time and it is not that we did not do it, it is that we understood that they were not so urgent, besides other more important ones came along the way. We are continually changing our minds in life and that's fine with me.

Es una película con muy lindos mensajes, al final invita a los niños y a todo el que la mire a confiar de que siempre tendremos a un Leo en nuestras vidas: alguien que sepa escuchar, darnos consejos y estar ahí para nosotros cuando los necesitemos. Me encantó haber visto esta película, se las recomiendo un montón si no lo hicieron.

It is a movie with very nice messages, at the end it invites children and everyone who watches it to trust that we will always have a Leo in our lives: someone who knows how to listen, give us advice and be there for us when we need it. I loved watching this movie, I highly recommend it if you haven't seen it.
