Movie Review ~ The Black Book

When this movie came out, it got a lot of good reviews about it and the hype was making me agitated about wanting to watch the movie and get to know more about it, and the thriller was giving fire not making it easy for me to concentrate on some other important thing or other movies I had in my playlist.
I wanted badly to watch the movie but I had nobody to get it from, so I did what every typical Nigeria girl would do, I waited until it was midnight, went on YouTube, and tried to find the movie, to see if I could watch it from there since I got a lot of YouTube data but my plan failed woefully as I could only watch the thriller too and view the review as well, since it could only be watched on Netflix. I became devastated and went in search of the movie from friends, whom I knew usually had the latest movie but nobody had it. Phew!
Luckily, God decided to smile at me when I went to church a few days ago and asked a church member of mine if she had this particular movie, the way her face lit up just at the mention of the movie showed I asked the right source and yeah, I got the movie into my phone.
To say I was anxious was an understatement, I could not wait for the church service to come to an end anymore, immediately I got home, took my bath, changed up, and got into bed, I dived straight into the movie without wasting much time.

Well, I cried while watching the movie because man, the only surviving son of a once-trained retired soldier man killed as payback as a result of hatred and jealousy by the same bad gang he once worked for resigned because he needed to start life afresh but being accused wrongly by the killers so the police would not investigate the boy's death got to the father more than his son's death.
Although he wanted to live the death of his son to God to help him avenge his death because he believed that God was paying him back for the sins he committed when he was younger, for cutting short a lot of lives although he is a change man and a deacon, after realizing that it was a framework to get at him, he decides to clear his son's by going back into the world he abandoned and he swore never to return there.

The BLACK BOOK is a 2023 Nigerian crime thriller film produced and directed by Editi Effiong. The film was released to Netflix on 22 September 2023.
A renounced hitman in a bid to clear his name, uncover the truth about the killers of his dead son, and also save the life of a journalist girl who took interest in the story of his son, whom he also realized was the young girl he saved from being killed by the same people who sent him to kill her mother while she was trying to uncover the truth as a journalist, he sorts the help of the police and a notorious gang group.
Finally, the girl finds out that he was the person who killed her mother and made her motherless, and many other truths are uncovered in their bid to know the truth about the death of his son.
I would give the movie a 7/10, the characters played their role very well and smoothly, the storyline was top-notch, and it portrayed the state of many big crime countries. Were the innocent killed or jailed for something they know nothing about, especially by the same authority and law that was meant to save them. It portrays how many big politicians are silenced because of the truth they know and are about to unravel, either by ambushing them or killing their families so they can step down from authority and denounce their positions.
The movie is epic, although they left me hanging when they did not show if the man was going to be jailed after the book he started as a journal when he began his crime mission as a soldier will be revealed because he was part of the crime and killings that took place. I mean justice needs to be served to him as well even though he lost his son, the only family he had but he committed a crime and he needs to pay for it.
I will recommend this movie for you as a weekend getaway if you are planning to spend your weekend indoors, I am sure you all will enjoy the movie as much as I did when you get to see the movie.
I like to see films from different parts of the world, and it has been a while since I have seen a production from that place. although not all of them are good, I have come across films with very low budgets and regular performances, but I know that they also make good productions.
Yeah, you are not far from the truth, our production was bad, but so far so good many of them are coming out to make a better film production and they are doing well at that.
