The movie began with Kubo's mum sailing through an ocean with Kubo as a baby wrapped on her back inside of a bag. She was Running away from her own father and sisters who were a threat to Kubo's life. Unfortunately, one of his eyes was already taken from him by his own grandpa.
The anime movie "Kubo and the two strings" is a movie of fate, war, magic, and motherly love. Kubo grew up to be a storyteller who plays his strings during his storytelling, and the sound of his strings brings the characters of his story to life through papers that fold up in the image of the characters in his stories.
"Don't stay out until the sun goes down" was his mum's instruction to him, her fear was that her sisters who lurk after him could sense his presence during dusk. But in anxiousness to speak to his dead dad, he stayed out late one fateful day and this alerted his hunters.
Kubo's mum had to sacrifice herself using her last magic to awaken Kubo's toy which was a monkey so she could help him find the elements he needed to conquer his hunters. We see a display of motherly love as she sacrificed her life to fight her own sisters and Kubo's dad who also came as a beetle to help his son. Kubo's power was in his strings and papers, which he walked with all the time. Kubo grandpa's evil nature was defeated and his old nature, which was a loving one, was restored.
The movie particularly inspires children to look beyond their disabilities. Kubo had just an eye but this never became a discouragement to him, he still saw himself as a unique being and this was because his mum always told him how unique he was. Kubo had a string guitar, he walked around with it wrapped on his shoulder and papers he folded into anything he imagined as he played his strings. He would always say,
If you must blink, do it now. Pay attention to every detail no matter how insignificant it is, because if you miss a step , the hero would die.
This was from his mother's teaching to stay focused at all times and to every detail.
