Flowers in The Yard
In 1966, the Statler Brothers released a song called "Flowers on The Wall", a fun little ditty about a lonely man counting out his days in a hotel room. That song has nothing to do with this post.
We tried twice this year to grow a successful crop of sunflowers in our yard. The first crop turned out to be a non-seed producing variety so we ripped them out and replanted a type known for good production. I guess the farm mislabeled them. While the flowers are pretty, there are no seeds at all, at least not edible ones.
Oh well, at least they make for good models. Too bad the camera lens got stuck wide open. However, it does make for a "painterly" image which is not unpleasant to look at.
One edible plant in my yard is the beauty berry. I didn't get a chance to take a picture of the flowers, which are small and white, but the berries are nice and purple. They make good jelly, though I haven't made it in years.
