Olympus OM 2n light seal replacement.

OK Hivers the chances are that if your film camera is over 40 odd years old the light seals are a bit poor like the ones on the Olympus OM-2n I recently picked up from a charity shop certainly are bits of the seal are sticking to the door and it’s a black mess in the grooves but it’s all easy to clean out with some isopropanol alcohol a cocktail stick and and Q tips.7

All cleaned out so now the replacement.

EBay has light seal kits for around a tenner but I think I can do better than that. A sheet of 2mm black foam is £1 and cutting thin strips about 3.5mm will make loads of seals.

The strip feed into the light seal groves and go round the tight corners without any issues, the only small gap is for the film counter reset.

The strips stay in the grove without any glue so the only bit you need to stick is the strip of foam at the hinge end and I used a few dabs of PVA for that.

The only other light seal that needs to be tackled at some stage is the one for the view finder at the back of the Prism and given the state of the other seals it probably needs doing. But it’s a much bigger job as the controls and top of the camera need to be removed and I need a couple of specialist tools that are on order to do that, so it can wait for another day.

So there you have it Hivers a simple and cheap way to replace camera light seals. All done and no sticky black bits sticking to the camera back door.

I think I will take a look at my Rollei 35S when the roll of film is finished.
