Welcome back to my blog, guys! Today I bring you the continuation of my series of posts about cinema known as CINÉFILAZ as a play on words between the words “Cinéfilo” (cinephile) and my artist name “ILAZ”; today the movie I have decided to bring you to review is one that really has a lot of very interesting elements to make a very epic dialogue.

Today the review will be a bit controversial, for two particular reasons, the first one is that it will be a spoiler free review, because I want people to go to see the movie with some expectations but without spoiling absolutely nothing, a movie that the critics destroyed too much and today I come to debate you a bit about it if it is really that bad or not, because I never get carried away by what the critics or the memes say, I go and see it for myself.

So, today let's welcome to my blog the movie Joker: Folie à Deux, let's get started!

El día de hoy les traigo la continuación de mi serie de publicaciones sobre cine conocido como CINÉFILAZ como juego de palabras entre las palabras "Cinéfilo" y mi nombre de artista "ILAZ"; hoy la película que he decidido traerles para hacer el análisis es una que de verdad tiene un montón de elementos muy interesantes para hacer un diálogo muy épico.

Hoy la reseña será un poco polémica, por dos motivos particulares, la primera es que será una reseña libre de spoilers, porque quiero que las personas vayan a ver la película con algo de expectativas pero sin spoilearse absolútamente nada, una película que la crítica destruyó demasiado y hoy vengo a debatirles un poco al respecto si de verdad es tan mala o no, porque yo nunca me dejo llevar por lo que dice la crítica ni los memes, yo voy y lo veo por mí mismo.

Así que, hoy vamos a darle la bienvenida a mi blog a la película Joker: Folie à Deux, ¡comencemos!

What I DID like

There are several elements in this movie that really made it worthwhile for me to have seen it in the theater, so I'm going to section them in order to detail them with you, my dear readers, so you can understand my perspective a little bit.

1.- The performances

I think everyone who saw The Joker knows that Joaquin Phoenix played a completely transcendental role, well let me tell you that this time it was exactly the same, you will love his performance too much because beyond having stuck to his strict regimen of body transformation for it, there are really many moments where we see how he shows off a lot of acting tools to re-embody Arthur Fleck, a human being very corrupted by the pain and darkness of the world since his childhood.

On the other hand, Lady Gaga's impersonation of Dr. Harlen Quinzel, better known as Harley Quinn was simply MAGISTRAL, her characterization fascinated me because it is a very different version of what we are used to see about Harley, she is not a completely submissive person as almost hypnotized by the Joker but she has a different personality that I will not describe for you to discover it yourselves.

2.- The photography

There are many scenes in the film that will leave you very much in love, if you are a fan of the magnificent framing to give you to understand things implicitly or if you know how to understand the psychology and symbolism behind certain background elements in synergy with the characters, you will love many times many situations in the film where they give you some spectacular shots.

3.- The ending

Relax, I will not spoil the ending, but I will tell you that it was a JEWEL of an ending what this movie brought us, especially if you are a person who loves comics about the various Jokers that exist and have some knowledge about it, something will happen that will leave you very happy or at least quite satisfied.

4.- The musical factor

This point will be curious because it was something that I liked and at the same time I did not like, but tilting the balance more towards the positive and I explain why; basically, the relationship between this Joker and this Harley is born as a result of the music for reasons that you are going to understand when you see the movie, then, it makes too much sense that the movie is a musical because the delirium inside Arthur's mind is built based on his environment.

In the first movie we saw him living a completely fictitious relationship because he interacted a little with his neighbor, taking that little contact to the extreme, then, imagine that same fact but with much more intensity and adding the factor that this new relationship (which really is a sentimental relationship) began with music, the musical factor is perfect and gives a touch too funny in many moments to the film.

Lo que SÍ me gustó

Hay diversos elementos en esta película que realmente hicieron que para mí valiera la pena el hecho de haberla visto en el cine, así que voy a seccionarlos para poder detallarlos con ustedes, mis queridos lectores, para que comprendan un poco mi perspectiva.

1.- Las actuaciones

Creo que todo el que vió The Joker sabe que Joaquín Phoenix hizo un papel completamente trascendental, pues déjenme decirles que en esta ocasión fue exactamente igual, amarán demasiado su actuación porque más allá de haberse mantenido en su régimen estricto de transformación corporal para el mismo, realmente hay muchos momentos en los que vemos como hace gala de un montón de herramientas de actuación para volver a encarnar a Arthur Fleck, un ser humano muy corrompido por el dolor y la oscuridad del mundo desde su infancia.

Por otro lado, la personificación de la Dra. Harlen Quinzel, mejor conocida como Harley Quinn de parte de Lady Gaga fue simplemente MAGISTRAL, su caracterización me fascinó porque es una versión muy distinta a la que estamos acostumbrados a ver sobre Harley, no es una persona completamente sumisa como casi hipnotizada por el Joker sino que tiene una personalidad distinta que no les voy a describir para que la descubran ustedes mismos.

2.- La fotografía

Hay muchísimas escenas en la película que te van a dejar muy enamorado, si eres fanático de los encuadres magníficos para darte a entender cosas de forma implícita o si sabes entender la psicología y el simbolismo detrás de ciertos elementos de fondo en sinergia con los personajes, amarás muchas veces muchas situaciones en la película donde te regalan unos planos espectaculares.

3.- El final

Tranquilos, no les voy a hacer spoiler del final, pero sí les voy a decir que fue una JOYA de final lo que nos trajo esta película, sobretodo si eres una persona amante de los comics sobre los diversos Jokers que existen y tienes algo de conocimiento al respecto, sucederá algo que te dejará muy feliz o por lo menos bastante satisfecho.

4.- El factor musical

Este punto será curioso porque fue algo que me gustó y a la vez no me gustó, pero inclinando la balanza más hacia lo positivo y explico el porqué; básicamente, la relación entre este Joker y esta Harley nace a raíz de la música por motivos que van a entender cuando vean la película, entonces, tiene demasiado sentido que la película sea un musical porque el delirio dentro de la mente de Arthur se construye basado en su entorno.

En la primera película lo vimos vivir una relación completamente ficticia por el hecho de haber interactuado un poco con su vecina, llevando ese pequeño contacto al extremo, entonces, imaginen ese mismo hecho pero con mucha más intensidad y anexándole el factor de que esta nueva relación (que de verdad sí es una relación sentimental) comenzó con música, el factor musical es perfecto y le da un toque demasiado gracioso en muchos momentos a la película.

What I DID NOT like

Of course, not everything can be perfect and this post is not made purely to defend the movie to the fullest, but to tell you from my perspective why I think this movie is not as bad as it is painted in social networks or as the critics said.

However, there are things that I can highlight that I didn't like, so let's list them in the same way:

1.- The musical factor

You may wonder why I put it back here if I put this same point in the things I liked, but behold, I have always said that there are moments for everything in the cinema and there are elements that are very good to keep the viewer trapped on the screen, I am a viewer who hardly get distracted or lose the thread of the film even being a neurodivergent person, but there was a part that was definitely not entirely clear.

There was a song performed by Joker and Harley that literally made me lose too much of the plot thread, I don't know if it was because of the length of THAT particular scene or if it was something else but I must say that there the plot lost quite a bit of steam, it picked up later, but that moment was strange.

2.- The length of the movie

I think that really for the plot that the film had it was not necessary that it lasted more than 2 hours, there were moments that could have been omitted to make it a little more dynamic or feel that the plot moved at a pace a little more comfortable, as there were times when you were like thinking what could happen now and the film did not answer you precisely, and during those moments you were like in the air.

3.- The change of tone

No, it's not a pun for the fact that it's a musical, it's a criticism about the fact that they changed the whole narrative tone of the JOKER franchise in this sequel, because in the first one we see a dark person, there's a lot of action, a lot of blood, a lot of pretty graphic scenes and in this movie the tone becomes a little more artistic, they kind of tone it down a little bit from the dark tone of the first one and I think that twists a little bit what they were building with the first release, it was a contradiction that as an experiment, I feel it could have been a little bit better executed to have a better impact.

Lo que NO me gustó

Claro que no todo puede ser perfecto y este post no está hecho netamente para defender la película a cabalidad, sino para contarles desde mi perspectiva el porqué pienso que esta película no es tan mala como lo pintan en las redes sociales o como dijo la crítica.

Sin embargo, sí hay cosas que puedo resaltar que no me gustaron, por lo que vamos a enlistarlas del mismo modo:

1.- El factor musical

Se preguntarán el porqué lo vuelvo a colocar por acá si coloqué este mismo punto en las cosas que me gustaban, pero he ahí, siempre he dicho que hay momentos para todo en el cine y hay elementos que son muy buenos para mantener al espectador atrapado en la pantalla, yo soy un espectador que muy difícilmente me distraigo o pierdo el hilo de la película aún siendo una persona neurodivergente, pero hubo una parte que definitivamente no estuvo del todo clara.

Hubo una canción que interpretaron Joker y Harley que literalmente me hizo perderme demasiado del hilo argumental, no sé si fue por la duración de ESA escena particular o si fue algo más pero debo decir que ahí el argumento perdió bastante fuerza, se recuperó después, pero ese momento fue extraño.

2.- La duración de la película

Creo que realmente para el plot que tuvo la película no era necesario que durara más de 2 horas, hubo momentos que se pudieron omitir para que fuera un poco más dinámica o se sintiera que la trama se movía a un ritmo un poco más cómodo, ya que habían momentos en los que uno se quedaba como pensando qué podía pasar ahora y no te respondía la película con precisión, y durante esos momentos uno quedaba como en el aire.

3.- El cambio de tono

No, no es un juego de palabras por el hecho de que sea un musical, es una crítica sobre el hecho de haber cambiado todo el tono narrativo de la franquicia JOKER en esta secuela, porque en la primera vemos una persona oscura, hay mucha acción, mucha sangre, muchas escenas bastante gráficas y en esta película el tono se vuelve un poco más artístico, como que le bajan un poco al tono oscuro de la primera y creo que eso tergiversa un poco lo que venían construyendo con el primer estreno, fue una contradicción que como experimento, siento que pudo haber sido un poco mejor ejecutado para que tuviera un mejor impacto.

Conclusions

This movie is not one of the best Joker movies ever made, it is not the best sequel that could have been made to a movie like the first one in this franchise and it definitely left several things to be desired due to the amount of hype between the fact that we would see Joaquin Phoenix's Joker again adding the great acting quality of Lady Gaga.

However, I can say with all responsibility that I feel that what happened to this movie with the critics is the fact that the experiment of it being a musical fell very badly; many people I know, just for the aspect of being a musical will give it a much lower score than the one I am giving in this post without even seeing it, just for the fact that the musical genre in cinema is a specific niche genre, it is not for everyone.

It's definitely not as bad a movie as they want to paint it with the memes and reviews, but well, this is just my perspective, probably someone will go and see it and completely disagree with me, but it makes me happy to know that I didn't lose my money by going to see this movie at the theater, because I was quite satisfied even though the bar was very high and some expectations were not met that were left there and maybe they will continue or not, depending on the direction this franchise will take after that ending.

Conclusiones

Esta película no es de las mejores que se haya hecho sobre un Joker, no es la mejor secuela que se le pueda haber hecho a una película como la primera de esta franquicia y definitivamente dejó varias cosas que desear por la cantidad de hype entre el hecho de que volveríamos a ver al Joker de Joaquín Phoenix anexándole la gran calidad actoral de Lady Gaga.

Sin embargo, puedo decir con toda responsabilidad que siento que lo que le pasó a esta película con la crítica es el hecho de que cayó muy mal el experimento de que fuera un musical; muchas personas que conozco, nada más por el aspecto de ser un musical ya le darán una puntuación mucho menor a esta que estoy otorgando en este post sin siquiera verla, sólamente por el hecho de que el género musical dentro del cine es un género de nicho específico, no es para todo el mundo.

Definitivamente no es una película tan mala como la quieren pintar con los memes y las críticas, pero bueno, esta es solo mi perspectiva, probablemente alguien vaya y la vea y esté completamente en desacuerdo conmigo, pero me hace feliz el hecho de saber que no perdí mi dinero al ir a ver esta película al cine, porque quedé bastante satisfecho a pesar de que la barra estaba muy alta y no se cumplieron algunas expectativas que quedaron ahí y tal vez seguirán o no, dependiendo del rumbo que tome esta franquicia luego de ese final.
