A hoichoi original series: Buker Moddhye Agun (2023)

Hello, Hiveans! Today I will be talking about a Bangladeshi web series released on the OTT platform hoichoi. I cannot write a well-structured review, I will be expressing my thoughts here.

This is a detective-thriller series of 8 episodes. It caught my eye when it was released around one and a half years ago in March 2023. But it did not hit me that I needed to watch it then. I bought hoichoi subscription back in May of this year. Yet was not watching anything. Suddenly decided to not waste the money.

The main theme of this series is the death of a famous movie superstar Arman Rahman acted by Yash Rohan. After investigation, it was declared as a suicide. Though it has been twenty years, a recent video went viral where a co-artist claimed she knew many things and Arman was killed it was not a suicide. People raised their voices for the reopening of the investigation of that case.

We meet ASP Golam Mamun portrayed by Ziaul Faruq Apurba. By the way, it was his first appearance in a web series. He seemed to be distressed about something and was posted far from the crowd of cities. He was called to be shifted to CIB as all other agents were busy to work on this case.

He is an arrogant officer, whom his subordinates fear a lot. He has a clear conscience of right and wrong, and is not afraid to oppose his superior. This case gave his life meaning. So he was invested in it. He collected previous files from the records and contacted all close persons of Arman. Interrogates them. His intuition was telling him something was wrong.

Many secrets are unveiled on the path. Was it a murder or suicide to know it, you will need to watch it or maybe find it on Wikipedia but I will not reveal anything about the story anymore.

Now about the making, there are many famous faces as well as new faces in this series. Acting was so-so. No one stood out or none fell behind. The storytelling was good, there was no element of boringness. Also to me, the length is perfect, if it was longer then the pace would be slow. The police procedures are displayed nicely. Parallel storytelling intrigued me. There are some things that will make absolutely no sense, but who is looking for logical sense in shows!

Well, after the release of the trailer, some gave theories that it is based on the death of an actual superstar hero Salman Shah. However, the makers have not given any kind of information to support the claim. It was a fun watch. Adding the time of all the episodes it gets around 2 hours, so not very long.
