Waiting for the fourth season I have already seen The Boys [ENG/SPA]

Until recently, I had not dared to immerse myself in the world of The Boys, it seemed to me an exaggeratedly explicit series, full of violence and black humor, something that made it deserving of criticism and therefore generated a certain dislike, however, on the recommendation of a person, who invited me to watch it highlighting some aspects that caught my attention, plus the announcement of its fourth season, I ended up giving it a chance and I must confess that it has been a totally unexpected experience.

Hasta hace poco, no me había atrevido a sumergirme en el mundo de The Boys me parecía una serie exageradamente explícita, llena de violencia y humor negro, algo que la hizo merecedora de críticas y por eso me generaba cierto desagrado, sin embargo, por recomendación de una persona, quien me invitó a verla resaltando algunos aspectos que me llamaron la atención, mas el anuncio de su cuarta temporada, termine por darle una oportunidad y debo confesar que ha sido una experiencia totalmente inesperada.

From the first episode I was in shock, it had been a long time since I was intrigued by a beginning, even though there were strong scenes, I was left wondering what was coming next. The truth is that the series caught me with its original and challenging premise: a group of vigilantes, known as “The Boys”, confronts a group of egocentric “superheroes”, known as “The Seven”. The confrontation between the two groups has nothing to do with the traditional battles of good versus evil, but rather explores the darker sides of power and fame, questioning morality and the limits of justice.

Desde el primer capitulo quede en shock, tenía tiempo que un inicio no me dejaba intrigado, a pesar de que fueron escenas fuertes, quede pensando que venía después. La verdad es que la serie me atrapó con su premisa original y desafiante: un grupo de justicieros, conocidos como "The Boys", se enfrenta a un grupo de "superhéroes" egocéntricos, conocidos como "Los Siete". El enfrentamiento entre ambos grupos para nada tiene que ver con las batallas tradicionales del bien contra el mal, sino que explora los lados más oscuros del poder y la fama, cuestionando la moralidad y los límites de la justicia.

One of the aspects that has surprised me the most about The Boys is its rawness and realism, this is not a series that you can sit down to watch with the family, especially if there are children present, I must insist that it is too explicit. Unlike Marvel and DC series and movies, where violence is presented in a stylized and “suitable for all audiences” way, The Boys presents grotesque, brutal and bloody scenes, no matter if you think a character is good or bad, both don't hesitate to resort to questionable methods to achieve their goals.

Uno de los aspectos que más me ha sorprendido de The Boys es su crudeza y realismo, esta no es una serie que te puedas sentar a ver con la familia, menos si hay niños presente, debo insistir que es demasiado explícita. A diferencia de las series y películas de Marvel y DC, donde la violencia se presenta de forma estilizada y "apta para todo público", The Boys presenta escenas grotescas, brutales y sangrientas, no importa si crees que un personaje es bueno o malo, ambos no dudan en recurrir a métodos cuestionables para lograr sus objetivos.

But despite its crudeness, you can sympathize and hate its characters, personally I was hooked for three seasons waiting for Butcher (Karl Urban) to get his revenge against Homelander (Antony Starr), I can't remember the last time I disliked a character so much, so narcissistic and cruel, I think both the actor and the screenwriters did a great job to cause that effect on the viewer, in addition to the violence storyline that serves as a reminder that even those with extraordinary powers are human beings with their own weaknesses and vices.

Pero a pesar de su crudeza, puedes llegar a simpatizar y odiar a sus personajes, en lo personal me quede enganchado las tres temporadas esperando que Butcher (Karl Urban) lograra su venganza contra Homelander (Antony Starr), no recuerdo la última vez que me cayo tan mal un personaje, tan narcisista y cruel, me parece que tanto el actor como los guionistas hicieron un gran trabajo para causar ese efecto en el espectador, además del argumento de la violencia que sirve como un recordatorio de que, incluso aquellos que poseen poderes extraordinarios, son seres humanos con sus propias debilidades y vicios.

Another element that abounds in The Boys that you can only get in superhero movies like Deadpool, is the black humor. The series is full of irony and sarcasm, they make fun of all social strata, races and genders, I really liked that they made fun of the clichés and stereotypes that abound in Marvel and DC. The truth is that this mix of humor and violence worked very well because it gives a unique experience that defies everything that had been done so far.

Otro elemento que abunda en The Boys que solo se puede conseguir en peliculas de superheroes como Deadpool, es el humor negro. La serie está plagada de ironía y sarcasmo, se burlan de todos los estratos sociales, de las razas y géneros, me gusto mucho que se burlaran de los clichés y estereotipos que abundan en Marvel y DC. La verdad que la esta mezcla de humor y violencia les funcionó muy bien porque da una experiencia única que desafía todo lo que se había hecho hasta ese momento.

In short, The Boys is a series that broke the mold and challenged the audience to follow a story that no longer idealizes human beings with powers, as if to ask the question: what guarantees that someone with powers will really be a good superhero? Perhaps thanks to this approach people began to sympathize with those villains who later became “good”. In the end its rawness, realism and black humor make it a unique and original proposal, I just hope that the fourth season can close several cycles that were left open in the third.

En definitiva The Boys es una serie que rompió los moldes y desafió a la audiencia a seguir una historia que no idealice mas a seres humanos con poderes, es como si nos planteara la pregunta: ¿que garantiza que alguien con poderes realmente será un buen superhéroe? Quizás gracias a este planteamiento la gente empezó a simpatizar con esos villanos que luego se tornaron "buenos". Al final su crudeza, realismo y humor negro la convierten en una propuesta única y original, solo espero que la cuarta temporada pueda cerrar varios ciclos que quedaron abiertos en la tercera.
