Mayor of Kingstown season 3: The Thin Line Between Law and Chaos🎬🤔

I’ve just finished this intriguing series, and it really caught my attention because of the daring topics it tackles. You see, we often believe that the world’s worst prisons are in Latin America, but this series sheds light on a reality that few are aware of: organized crime can continue operating and profiting even from within prison walls.

While the show treats this as entertainment, it’s actually a very real issue. In my country, there are cases of kidnappings or extortion that are orchestrated and carried out from behind bars—much like what happens in the prison depicted in the series in the United States. That’s why the premise of the story intrigued me: a man on the outside trying to maintain a delicate balance so that the evil emanating from the prison doesn’t spiral out of control.

However, things don’t unfold as expected. The series portrays how this man does favors for the bad guys, ensuring they remain bad, all while keeping the “good guys”—the police and prison guards—out of gang wars. Throughout its three seasons, we follow Jeremy Renner, the mayor of Kingstown (named after all the mafias operating in the city), as he moves from place to place, striving for swift resolution of criminal activities, justice, and avoiding the bureaucratic delays of the country’s legal system.

I reviewed the first two seasons some time ago, and I can say that I enjoyed them because it felt like a battle between good and evil. A psychopath escapes from prison and begins wreaking havoc, disrupting the delicate “equilibrium” that the mayor of Kingstown had managed to establish. It was all about stopping this man, but in the process, other gangs were affected—like the Crips from Bunny Washington, the faction of men of color whom the protagonist seems to sympathize with.

The third season seemed poised to be a new battle against fresh enemies. The Aryan faction within the prison gained a new leader, Merle Callahan (Richard Brake), an intelligent and ruthless man who started causing significant problems for Mike (Jeremy Renner). Additionally, one of the Russian mafia kingpins from New York, Konstantin (Yorick van Wageningen), entered the fray. Initially, it appeared that Konstantin would be the new nemesis, but his character weakened as the series unfolded.

Mike seemed to be losing control of the city to these two adversaries, while others played their own games without keeping Mike informed. That’s the essence of the series: the bad guys, in order to remain bad, must notify Mike so he can guide the police on how far to apply justice. It struck me as twisted—truthfully, justice wasn’t the real focus in the city; it was about allowing the bad guys to be bad without disrupting everyone else’s business.

Living that way always takes its toll. Mike’s mother dies in the second season, and at the start of the third, a bomb is placed at her funeral as an assassination attempt. However, the perpetrator remains unknown until the very end. Iris (Emma Laird) reappears in this season and takes on a more prominent role. It seemed like her romantic relationship with Mike might finally solidify, but it never happens. Instead, she infiltrates the Russian faction, pretending to be loyal to Konstantin, all in an effort to provide firsthand information to Mike. But this decision ends up having consequences.

In conclusion, this season had its share of drama and action. However, just when everything seemed to be heading toward a satisfying conclusion, there’s a twist that leaves you with the impression that the writers ran out of ideas. You find yourself asking, “Why revisit what appeared to be resolved?” Personally, I believe the series could have perfectly ended with this season, but instead, they’ve left things open for a fourth. Yet, it doesn’t leave you excited for the story to continue. Some beloved characters exit the series in rather silly ways—I won’t spoil it, but if you’ve seen it, you’ll know what I mean.

Alcalde de Kingstown temporada 3: La delgada línea entre la ley y el caos🎬🤔

Recién he terminado está interesante serie, me ha llamado mucho la atención por lo que se atreve a contar, ya que solemos creer que las peores cárceles del mundo se encuentran en Latinoamérica pero está serie demuestra una realidad que pocos conocen, como el crimen organizado puede continuar operando y obteniendo ganancias aún desde dentro de la cárcel.

Ese asunto aunque es tratado en esta historia como entretenimiento, es un problema real. En mi país se sabe de casos de secuestro o extorsión que son programados y mandados a ejecutar desde las cárceles, tal cual como pasa en la cárcel de la serie en los Estados Unidos. Por eso la premisa de la historia me llamó la atención, un hombre que desde fuera procuraba mantener un equilibrio, para que la maldad que proviene desde la cárcel no fuera desmedida.

Pero no resultó ser así, la historia cuenta como un hombre hace favores a los malos, para que sigan siendo malos y que los "buenos" la policía y los guardias de la cárcel no se vean envueltos en una guerra de pandillas. La serie durante sus tres temporadas vemos a Jeremy Renner el alcalde de Kingstown, llamado así por todas las mafias que operan en la ciudad, yendo de un lugar a otro para que la fechorías se resuelvan rápido, para que haya justicia y no se tarde dentro del sistema burocrático de justicia del país.

Reseñé hace algún tiempo las dos primera temporadas, puedo decir que las disfrute porque parecía una lucha del bien contra el mal, un sicópata que escapa de la cárcel comienza a hacer mucha maldad y a perjudicar el "equilibrio" que el alcalde de Kingstown había conseguido. Todo se trató de detener a este hombre, pero en el proceso otras pandilla se veían perjudicadas, como los Crips de Bunny Washington, la facción de hombres de color por la que al parecer el protagonista simpatiza.

La tercera temporada parecía que iba a tratarse de una nueva lucha contra nuevos enemigos, la facción de las arios desde la cárcel se hizo con un nuevo líder Merle Callahan (Richard Brake), un hombre inteligente y despiadado que comenzó a darle mucho problemas a Mike (Jeremy Renner), también se sumo al juego uno de los cabecillas de la mafia rusa desde Nueva York Konstantin (Yorick van Wageningen), quien perecía seria el nuevo nemesis pero su personaje se debilitó mucho a medida que transcurría la serie.

Parecía que Mike perdía en control de la ciudad frente a estos dos enemigos, mientras otros jugaban aparte su juego sin poner al tanto a Mike, porque de eso se trata la serie, los malos para ser malos, deben notificar a Mike y asi el pueda decir a la policía hasta donde aplicar la justicia. Esto me pareció algo retorcido, la verdad nunca se trato de aplicar justicia en la ciudad, todo se trata de que los malos sean malos pero sin afectar los negocios de los demás.

Vivir de esa manera siempre pasa factura, la madre de Mike muere en la segunda temporada y al comenzar la tercera en el momento del entierro colocan una bomba a manera de atentado, pero no se sabe quien fue hasta el final. Iris (Emma Laird) reaparece en esta temporada y toma mas protagonismo, parece que se concretara la relación amorosa con Mike, pero nunca ocurre, ella en cambio se infiltra en la facción de los rusos y pretende serle fiel a Konstantin, con el fin de dar información de primera mano a Mike, pero esto termina pasándole factura.

En conclusion esta temporada contó con drama y acción pero cuando todo parecía encaminarse a un buen final, las cosas dan un giro que te da la sensación que los guionistas se quedaron sin ideas, te preguntas ¿porque regresar a lo que parece haber terminado? Creo que esta serie pudo perfectamente cerrar con esta temporada, pero las cosas quedan abiertas para una cuarta, pero no terminas emocionado para dar continuidad a la historia, algunos personajes queridos salen de la serie y de la manera mas tonta, no quiero decirlo para no dar spoiler, pero si la has visto sabras a lo que me refiero.
