Just finished watching Succession, the big winner at the Golden Globes | Is it so good as people say it is? [ENG/SPA]

Normally in series and movies, at least the ones I'm used to watching, the characters are varied, some stand out for being bad and others good, even the good ones can be broken people with serious flaws but that led them to develop a virtue that makes them the good guy of the series. In Succession, at least as far as I remember, there was no virtue that stood out in a character, all of them had a common point, ambition.

Acabo de terminar de ver Succession, la gran triunfadora en los Globos de Oro | ¿Es tan buena como la gente dice?

Normalmente en series y películas, por lo menos las que acostumbro a ver, los personajes son variados, algunos destacan por ser malos y otros buenos, incluso los buenos pueden ser personas rotas con serios defectos pero que eso les llevó a desarrollar una virtud que los hace el bueno de la serie. En Succession, por lo menos hasta donde yo recuerdo, no hubo alguna virtud que resaltará en un personaje, todos en cambio tenían un punto en común, la ambición.

That dynamic that the series offers where everyone wants the power or a portion of it, had exhausted me a little so it wasn't my priority to watch the fourth season, I preferred to watch other series first and at some point I would finish it, but many began to comment how good the closing was and added to that it won several of the important awards at the Golden Globes, which awakened my interest again, so I set out to finish it.

Esa dinámica que ofrece la serie donde todos quieren el poder o un porción de él, me había agotado un poco así que no fue mi prioridad ver la cuarta temporada, preferí ver primero otras series y en algún momento la terminaria, pero muchos empezaron a comentar lo bueno que fue el cierre y sumado a eso ganó varios de los premios importantes en los Globos de Oro, que despertaron nuevamente mi interés, así que me dispuse a terminarla.

Some comment that the success of the series is to show the life of extremely rich people, I don't know if that is true, I think I will never know, it is inevitable to ask the question: Are the rich and powerful really like that? Those who even have the power to influence the election of the world's leading power, are they really that miserable? It's hard to know where the series separates from reality and fiction, I guess if there are men and women like that.

Algunos comentan que el éxito de la serie es dar a conocer la vida de las personas extremadamente ricas, no se si eso sea verdad, creo que jamás lo sabré, es inevitable hacerse la pregunta ¿Realmente los ricos y poderosos son así? Aquellos que incluso tienen el poder de influir en la elección de la primera potencia mundial ¿Son tan miserables? Es difícil saber dónde la serie se separa de la realidad y la ficción, supongo que si hay hombre y mujeres así.

Many viewers found it fascinating to see a family with a dysfunctional dynamic due to ambition, a father who loved power more than his children, in episode 4 of this last season precisely after Logan's death the sons seem to finally agree, after a long time for power to remain in the hands of the 3, but previous episodes showed that in this family no one shares power unless forced, so we see how secretly each one develops his own plan.

A muchos espectadores les resultó fascinante ver una familia con una dinámica disfuncional debido a la ambición, un padre que amaba más el poder que a sus hijos, en el episodio 4 de esta última temporada precisamente luego de la muerte de Logan los hijo parecen al fin ponerse de acuerdo, luego de mucho tiempo para que el poder quede en manos de los 3, pero episodios anteriores demostraron que en este familia nadie comparte el poder a menos que sea forzado, por eso vemos como secretamente cada uno desarrolla su propio plan.

I think one of the messages of the series was to show how these people with such levels of wealth, material things take a back seat, they don't really care, that is evidenced when Connor Roy (Alan Ruck) after the death of his father was the only one interested in buying the house while the other 3 sons were focused on who would manage his father's empire, so we see how wealth takes a back seat and the real protagonist is the pursuit of power.

Creo que uno de los mensajes de la serie fue mostrar como estas personas con tales niveles de riqueza, las cosas materiales pasan a segundo plano, realmente no les importan, eso se evidencia cuando Connor Roy (Alan Ruck) luego de la muerte de su padre era el único interesado por comprar la casa mientras los otros 3 hijos estaban concentrados en quien manejaría el imperio de su padre, así vemos cómo la riqueza pasa a un segundo plano y el verdadero protagonista es la búsqueda de poder.

Now I will not deny that the cinematographic and script work is impressive, I was very impressed by the 3rd episode of this last season, then I learned that it was the one that caused more furor among the audience, since no one ever thought that Logan would die so quickly in the series. Many movie analysts believe that this episode evokes very well what real life is, death doesn't come at the end of a season, it is unexpected and it is suffered by both rich and poor.

Ahora no voy a negar que el trabajo cinematográfico y de guión es impresionante, me dejo muy impresionado el 3er episodio de esta última temporada, luego supe que fue el que causó mas furor entre la audiencia, ya que nadie jamás pensó que Logan moriría tan rápido en la serie. Muchos analistas de cine creen que este episodio evoca muy bien lo que es la vida real, la muerte no llega al final de una temporada, es inesperada y la sufren tanto ricos y pobres.

The dynamic in this episode is very good, the children Kendall (Jeremy Strong), Shiv (Sarah Snook) and Roman (Kieran Culkin) sustain a very good drama when receiving the call of the death of his father, is a lot of acting talent is the best I've seen in a long time along with the character Tom (Matthew Macfadyen), the children releasing emotions they don't usually have and Tom hurting because his only protector has died, he regrets having chosen the wrong side, no doubt this dynamic I think was the one that gave Sarah, Kieran and Matthew the award.

La dinámica en este capítulo es muy buena, los hijos Kendall (Jeremy Strong), Shiv (Sarah Snook) y Roman (Kieran Culkin) sostiene un drama muy bueno al recibir la llamada de la muerte de su padre, el derroche de talento actoral es de lo mejor que he podido ver en mucho tiempo junto al personaje Tom (Matthew Macfadyen), los hijos liberando emociones que no suelen tener y Tom dolido porque ha muerto su único protector, él lamenta haber escogido el bando equivocado, sin duda esta dinámica creo que fue la que les dio el premio a Sarah, Kieran y Matthew.

Apart from not sympathizing with the theme of ambition, I can conclude that I found the series very good, because something I don't forget from the first season when Shiv was working in politics, was his intention, to position Tom as the heir to the family empire, and that holding hands at the end when Tom is put as CEO of Waystar gives the feeling that everything was always part of the plan of both, but it is also a moment of submission of Shiv to Tom, but what I liked most about the series is that it was congruent from beginning to end, so if I think that his award for best series at the Golden Globe is well deserved.

Fuera de no simpatizar con el tema de la ambición, puedo concluir que la serie si me parecio muy buena, porque algo que no olvido de la primera temporada cuando Shiv trabajaba en la política, era su intención, posicionar a Tom como el heredero del imperio familiar, y esa toma de manos al final cuando Tom es puesto como CEO de Waystar da la sensación que todo siempre fue parte del plan de ambos, pero también es un momento de sumisión de Shiv ante Tom, pero lo que mas me gusto de la serie es que fue congruente de principio a fin, por eso si creo que su premio a mejor serie en los Golden Globe es bien merecido.
