Freelance| Last Jhon Cena´s Action-Comedy [EN/ES]
Today I bring you an action-comedy film for when you want something light to have a good time and unwind.

Ever since I saw the trailer, it caught my attention. It had that comedic vibe, the kind you watch with friends or family on a Sunday. Plus, one of the reasons I wanted to see it was because of John Cena's performance and his beautiful co-star. I'm sure they won't be winning any Oscars, but these stereotypical characters with a touch of humor entertain me when I just want to clear my mind and not get immersed in deep stories. With my friends, we planned a movie and popcorn Sunday, and we watched it. Today, I bring you the review of Freelance...
The film introduces us to Mason Pettits (John Cena), a former soldier who becomes a lawyer to support his family, but he's not satisfied with that life. One day, he receives an "easy" job from a former army buddy who is now a private contractor. The mission: to be the bodyguard of a journalist who is going to interview the dictator of Paldonia (an imaginary Central American republic), whom Pettits hopes to seek revenge on for the death of his army brothers years ago.
Mason accepts the job, with revenge on his mind. He is unaware of everything that awaits him upon arriving in Paldonia. From a political conspiracy to a romantic relationship with the journalist, and an unexpected twist that even Mason can't believe. Everything happens while they try to escape from the coup plotters, with chases through the towns of Paldonia and countless bullets and problems.
The movie combines action with comedy and touches of drama. We have a hero and a damsel in distress in an unknown country, forced to be accompanied by the crazy "president" of Paldonia.
The ending is thrilling, with moments of excitement, and honestly, it leaves you wanting more adventures with Mason. It made me want to travel to Paldonia.
It's a classic comedy film. As I mentioned before, it's not an Oscar-worthy movie, but it's definitely entertaining. The performances are decent but not particularly memorable. The actors showcase their charisma and versatility, but they are limited by the movie's storyline. The cast and their performances are one of the strengths of the film, yet at the same time, one of the most underutilized aspects.
Taking this into account, we have John Cena as Mason Pettits, displaying his skills in action and comedy, portraying the typical character who evolves from a boring man to a brave and loyal hero. Being critical, I don't think Cena manages to bring depth or emotion to his character (but that's not what you're looking for in these kinds of movies).
Next, we have the incredibly beautiful Alison Brie as Claire Wellington. She demonstrates her talent for comedy with a touch of drama. The actress brings intelligence and charm to the character, and it's impossible not to fall in love with the journalist and her eyes. Being critical, it's evident that she doesn't have much room to develop her character, and it ends up feeling superficial, like a damsel in distress. I must add that there's a notable lack of chemistry with Cena, which makes their attraction not very believable and somewhat forced.
Lastly, Juan Pablo Raba as Juan Venegas. It's impossible to categorize his character; he's neither good nor bad, and that's where the problem lies. At times, I noticed some overacting in certain scenes, portraying a Latino character that ends up being a Latino seen through the imagination of a North American, which doesn't stay consistent with the role. However, he brings great touches of humor and surprises to the story. But what I liked the most was the rivalry and eventual friendship with Cena.
Many people have said that the "dictator" is based on the figure of the president of El Salvador: Nayib Bukele. At times, it seemed that way to me. What do you think?
Regarding the technical and artistic aspects, the direction and production design are dynamic and effective, with many details to create the country of Paldonia, with its landscapes, culture, and typical Central American society. There are fun and exhilarating action scenes that remind me of other movies in the same genre, which kept me entertained.
The script is one of the weaker points, with a predictable plot, full of clichés and some forced situations. However, it also has funny moments and some dialogue with jokes that are so bad that you can't help but laugh. The cinematography is another strong point, showcasing the settings from the city to the jungle and the "dictator's" house, highlighting the action and the danger of what is happening. One aspect I really liked is how they managed to portray the contrast between the luxury and poverty in Latin American countries.
To conclude, I must say that I was entertained throughout the duration of the film, and it met the expectations I had after watching the trailer. It's a comedy-action movie that can be predictable at times, and there's not much more to it. It's a good choice to enjoy with family or to have a light-hearted time. If you're a fan of John Cena or the action-comedy genre and don't want to think too much, then this is a good choice without a doubt.

Desde que ví el trailer, me llamó atención, tenía ese aire de comedia, que ves junto a los amigos o la familia un domingo. Además, otra de las razones por la que la quise ver, es por la actuación de John Cena y su hermosa coprotagonista. Estoy seguro que no se van llevar ningún Oscar, pero estos personajes estereotipados y con el toque de humor, me divierten en momentos que solo quiero despejar mi mente y no sumergirme en historias tan profundas. Junto a mis amigos, planeamos un domingo de pelis y palomitas y la vimos. Hoy te traigo la reseña de Freelance...
El filme, nos muestra a: Mason Pettits (Jhon Cena), un exsoldado que se convierte en abogado, para dar sustento a su familia, pero no está satisfecho con esa vida. Un día, recibe un trabajo "fácil", de un antiguo compañero del ejército que ahora es contratista privado. La misión, hacer de guardaespaldas, de una periodista, que va a entrevistar al dictador de Paldonia (una república centromaericana imaginaria), del cual Pettits espera vengarse por la muerte de sus hermanos del ejército años atrás.
Mason, va a aceptar el trabajo, con la mente puesta en cobrar venganza. No es consciente de todo lo que espera, al llegar a Paldonia. Desde una conspiración política, hasta una relación amorosa con la periodsita, pasando por un giro inesperado que ni Mason puede creerlo. Todo sucede, mientras intentan espacapar de los golpistas entre persecusiones por los pueblos de Paldonia y entre ciento de balas y problemas.
La película mezcla la acción, con comedia y toques de drama. Donde tenemos, un héroe y una damicela en apuros, en un país desconocido por todos y acompañados a la fuerza, por el loco, del "presidente" de Paldonia.
El final, es emocionante, con pinceladas de emoción y la verdad, deja con ganas de más aventuras junto a Mason. A mi me dieron ganas de viajar a Paldonia.
Es un filme, clásico del género de comedias. Como ya dije, no es una película, para los Oscar, pero si para diverirse un tiempo. Las actuaciones, son aceptables pero no nada memorable, los actores muestran sus carismas y versatilidad pero se encuentran limitados por la misma hisotria de la película. El elenco y sus actuaciones son uno de los puntos más fuerte y a la vez, uno de los más desaprovehcados.
Teniendo esto en cuenta , nos encontramos con Jhon Cena como Mason Pettits, con gran habilidad para la acción y la comedia, haciendo del típoc personaje que evoluciona, de un hombre aburrido, a un héroe valiente y leal. Siendo exigente, creo que Cena, no logra darle profundidad ni emoción a su personaje (pero esto no es lo que buscas en estas películas)
Después, tenemos a la hermosísima Alison Brie, como Claire Wellington. Demostrando su talento para la comedia, con un toque de drama. La actriz, le aporta inteligencia y encanto al personaje, resulta imposible no enamorarse de la periodista y sus ojos. Siendo exigentes, se ve que no tiene mucho espacio para desarrollar su personaje y queda muy superficial, quedando como una damisela en apuros. Me gustaría añadir, la notable poca química con Cena, lo que hace que su atracción, no sea muy creíble y quede un poco forzada.
Por último, Juan Pablo Raba , como Juan Venegas. Es impsoible categorizarlo, es un personaje, que no es ni bueno, ni malo y aquí creo reside el problema. Por momentos, noté, algunas escenas sobreactuadas, interpretando a un latino que termina siendo un latino visto desde la imaginación de un norteamericano y no queda muy consecuente con el papel. Aunque, si le aporta grandes toques de humor y sorpresa a la historia. Pero lo que más me gustó, fue la rivalidad y final amistad con Cena.
Muchas personas, han dicho que el "dictador" está basado en la fiugra del presidente de El Salvador: Nayib Bukele, a mi por momentos me lo pareció, ¿tú que crees?
En cuanto a los aspectos técnicos y artísticos, tenemos que la dirección y el diseño de producción son dinámicos y eficaz, con muchos detalles para crear el país de Paldonia; con paisajes, cultura y sociedad típicoss de los países de Centroamericanos. Tenemos, escenas de acción divertidas y trepidantes, que recuerda a otras películas del mismo género, que no me aburrieron.
El guión, es uno de los punto más debiles con una trama predecible, llena de cliches y algunas situaciones forzadas, pero a la vez tiene momentos divertidos y algunos dialogos con chistes que son tan malos que solo puedes reirte. La fotografía viene a ser otro punto fuerte, mostrnadonos los escenarios desde la ciudad, la selva hasta la casa del "dictador", resaltando la acción y el peligro de lo que esta sucediendo. Un aspecto que me gustó mucho, es que lograron reflejar el contraste entre el lujo ,la pobreza de los países de América Latina.
Para culminar, debo decirte, que me entretuve durante el tiempo que dura y cumplió, con las expectativas que me había creado al ver el trailer. Es una película, de comedia y acción, que puede llegar a ser predecible en ciertos momentos, no hay mucho más que eso. Es una buena opción, para disfrutarla en familia, o despejar un poco. Si eres fan de Jhon Cena, o del género de acción o comedia y no quieres pensar mucho, esta es una buena elección sin pensarlo.
Si estás, en busca de un filme: profundo, con personajes elaborados y una trama original y memorable, definitivamente, Freelance, no es nada de eso.

I really wanted to like this film because I think that Cena is actually quite a good actor. It just kind of fell flat for me though and when it was over I was glad that it was over so I wouldn't have to watch it anymore :)
In my country we say ... to each their own...
It’s not a movie you look for strength or plot, it’s a movie to have a chill time, if you want a stronger one from Cena's, you have Vacation Friends.
