I have to confess that I wasn't planning on watching the movie (at least not at that moment), but some friends invited me to join them. It had been a while since we last got together, and who can say no to an evening of friends and an action film? It's always a great way to wrap up a weekend, right? But let's get to the important part: the review of Expendable 4.

Expendable is the fourth installment in a saga that began in... and hadn't seen a new release in 9 years. This latest film was released in theaters in... with a rating of... It has a runtime of 103 minutes (which will fly by if you enjoy non-stop action). It's a pure war-action film with a touch of suspense, and this review might help you decide whether to watch it or not.
If you've seen it, what do you think of this fourth installment?
The movie is directed by Scott Waugh (Need for Speed). The cast is filled with recognizable figures such as Sylvester Stallone (Rockie) as Barney Ross (the leader of the group), Jason Statham (Fast & Furious) as Lee Christmas (Barney's old friend and expert in hand-to-hand combat). We also have actors like 50 Cent portraying Easy Day, a newly added member to the team, and Megan Fox (Transformers) in the role of Gina, Christmas' ex-girlfriend and a temporary leader of the Expendables at one point.
The pretext for gathering veteran Barney Ross (Sylvester Stallone) and his elite team is the theft of nuclear artifacts with the aim of initiating a major military confrontation. The team consists of the most highly trained operators from different special forces (although this time, the majority of the group is new, so don't expect to see many familiar faces). Together, they must face their toughest mission yet. Things that seem trustworthy are no longer so, and nothing is as it seems. The team will have to confront Barney's oldest enemy. The movie delivers constant action, epic shootouts, intense hand-to-hand combat, and an incredible military operation.
In the end, we have a battle where the protagonists, filled with emotions and exhaustion, must prove why they are the best. Everything is against them: they either have to die, retreat, or try to save the world and survive. Do you think they will succeed in accomplishing their mission?
The directing team is known for their ability to shoot great action scenes, and while the movie doesn't lack in that department, I was hoping for a more effective and polished execution (in some cases, the special effects editing is quite noticeable, which takes you out of the moment and diminishes the excitement of the action). However, they did manage to maintain a consistent and tension-filled pace that kept me engaged throughout the film.
Jason Statham as Lee Christmas
A strong point is the cast of actors, who bring the familiar charisma of the Expendables (which we were accustomed to). I must highlight Jason Statham's portrayal of Lee Christmas, as he takes on a more prominent role than we've seen in previous installments. Statham maintains the same style as his previous performances, but the camaraderie with Stallone creates a dynamic that can remind you of you and your best friend, establishing a brief connection with the character. I believe Statham's performance is an essential part of this installment.
Regarding the script, I don't have much to mention. As an action movie, I believe the focus should be primarily on the action, and in this case, the premise is fulfilled. There are elements of espionage, conspiracy, betrayal, and plenty of action that keep you intrigued for the majority of the 103 minutes.
Although the movie is good, if compared to previous installments, it seems like this one was made without much enthusiasm, and the plot is quite predictable. Let me explain...
I'm a huge fan of this saga, and I gotta admit, my expectations for the latest installment were sky-high, but man, it fell way short of what I was hoping for or what I was used to. Part of it, I think, is because it tried to adapt without the star-studded cast that made this saga famous, and they're nowhere to be seen in this fourth installment. Another thing I missed the most were those cheesy and fun elements that clashed with the ruggedness of the mercenaries, only offset by the buddy chemistry between Barney and Christmas.
Despite all that, Expendable 4 still serves up a full-on action-packed experience (no denying that). We've got a solid cast led by Jason Statham. If you're a fan of the war-action genre or just want to relive the Expendables vibe, this movie will hit the spot for you. But if you're looking for a more elaborate story with deeper characters, thanks for reading, but this flick might not be your cup of tea.

Debo confesar que no iba a ver la película (en este momento) pero unos amigos me invitaron a verla, a manera de pasar un rato juntos; hacia tiempo no nos veíamos. Imposible decir que NO a una reunión de amigos con un filme de acción. Siempre es una buena manera de concluir un fin de semana eh? Pero bueno vamos con lo importante: la Review de Expendable 4 (o Los Mercenarios) .

Expendable , es la cuarta entrega de una saga que comenzó en ... y de la cual no se producía una nueva entrega desde hace 9 años. Esta última se estrenó en cines en ... con una clasificación : ... Consta de una duración de 103 minutos (que si disfrutas de la continuación acción se te pasarán rápidos) Es un filme netamente de acción bélica, con un poco de suspenso y está review puede hacer que te decidas a verla o no.

La dirección de la película está a manos de Scott Waugh (Need for Speed). El cast de actores se encuentra plagado de figuras reconocidas como: Sylvestre Stallone (Rockie) como Barney Ross (el líder del grupo); Jason Statham (Rapido y Furiosos) como Lee Christmas (viejo amigo de Barney y experto en el combate cuerpo a cuerpo); además tenemos actores como 50 Cent encarnado a Easy Day, recién incorporado al equipo y Megan Fox (Transformer) en el papel de Gina, exnovia de Christmas y jefa durante un momento de los Expendables.
El robo de artefactos nucleares, con el objetivo de iniciar una gran confrontación militar, es el pretexto para convocar al veterano Barney Ross (Sylvestre Stallone), el cual vuelve a liderar a su equipo de élite; formado por los operadores más preparados de las diferentes fuerzas especiales (en esta ocasión, el grupo se encuentra renovado en su mayoría, así que no esperes ver muchas caras reconocidas) Juntos tendrán que afrontar una nueva misión, la más dura hasta el momento. Las cosas que parecen ser confiables ya no lo son, nada es lo que parece y el equipo deberñá enfrentar, al enemigo más antiguo de Barney. La película, te dará acción constante, tiroteos épicos, peleas cuerpo a cuerpo y una operación militar increíble.
En el final, tenemos una batalla, donde los protagonistas; cargados de emociones y ya agotados; debarán demostrar por qué son los mejores. Todo está contra ellos; deberán morir, abandonar el lugar o intentar salvar al mundo y sobrevivir. Crees que lo lograrán cumplir su misión?
El equipo de dirección, es reconocido por su habilidad para el rodaje de buenas escenas de acción y aunque la película no carece de estas, si esperaba una realización más efectiva y fina (en algunos caso, es muy evidente el montaje de los efectos especiales, lo que te saca de situación y le quita un poco de emoción a la acción) Aunque si lograron mantener un ritmo cosntante, cargado de tensión para mantenerme dentro de la película.
Jason Statham como Lee Christmas
Un punto a favor, es el elenco de actores, los cuales aportan, el conocido carisma de los Expendables (y al que estabamos acostumbrado). Debo destacar, el personaje interpretado por Jason Statham (Lee Chritsmas); siendo el encargado de llevar el papel protagonico, como nunca antes se había visto en la saga. Statham mantiene la línea de sus actuaciones previas pero la camadería con Stallone; hace que el dúo pueda recordarte a tí y tú mejor amigo; creando una breve conexión con el personaje. Creo que la actuaciónn de Statham, es una parte esencial de esta entrega.
Del guión, no tengo mucho que mencionar, al ser una película de acción; creo que esta debe ser el foco principal y en este caso, se cumple la premisa; con elementos de espionaje, conspiración, traición y mucha acción que te mantiene intrigado la mayor parte de los 103 mimutos.
Yo ví la pelicula en ingles con subtitulos traducidos al español (mi idioma natal) y hay algunas frases que al ser phresal verb no estan bien traducidas; el subtítulo mata el chiste o la situación que está pasando en ese momento, pero esto es algo que es normal con este tipo de humor, nada para alarmarse pero que considero importante mencionar.
Aunque la película es buena, si se compara con entregas anteriores, pareciera ser que esta se hizo sin ganas siendo la trama bastante predecible. Me explico ...
Soy gran fan de esta saga y debo reconocer que mi expecatación por la última entrega era alta, pero quedó muy por debajo de lo que esperaba o lo que venía acostumbrado. En parte, creo que se debe a estar a adaptado a un elenco plagado de estrellas que hizo famoso esta saga y que no están presentas en esta cuarta entrega. Otro de los aspectos que más extrañé fueron los elementos cursis y divertidos que desentonaban con la rudeza de los mercenarios, solo contrarrestado por la camaderia de Barney y Christmas.
A pesar de lo anterior Expendable 4/ Los Mercenarios 4 ofrece una experiencia llena de acción (eso es innegable) Tenemos un eleco bueno, liderado por Jason Statham. Si eres fanático del genero de acción bélica o quieres recordar a los Expendables, esta película te entenendrá, si estas buscando una historia más elaborada y con personajes más profundo ; te agradezco que me hayas leído pero esta película no es para tí.

I am always seeing my husband watching this movie. Is it really good?
In my opinion, this movie is the weakest of the series.
But, overall, Expendables is totally worth it if you like action and special ops. Plus, it has an amazing cast of actors, few series can boast such a star-studded lineup.
