Duty , Movies in a Parking lot & more ...
The weekend corresponding to Eastern Weekend is one of the most anticipated weekends for both students and non-students alike.
It's one of the few long weekends of the year in Cuba. Many take it to rest, while others seize the opportunity to make the most of every moment.
Today I'll tell you how I spent this weekend, which I had been looking forward to for weeks.
Since I started my rotation in Orthopedics, I knew I had to be on duty on the holiday Friday (I always have this luck, so much so that I take it for granted). The weekend began challenging.

I decided to start my shift early in the morning since it was a 12-hour shift, so I would finish relatively early. (I wasn't aware of the patient flow that still awaited me).
It was my first shift, to be honest, I was excited; I've quite liked the specialty (for now), and I've been a patient in that emergency room more than once when I was a child (yes, I've had over 10 fractures in my history, I'm a puzzle).
The curiosity of being on the other side, as a doctor, consumed me.
Time flew by during the shift (although hunger consumed me).
We attended to more than 60 patients. We applied over 20 casts, performed around 10 reductions. (That's how it works in carpentry.) Daniel Gepeto would say, Janet.
The downside is that we had to send back more than 15 patients home because the hospital didn't have beds (but that's a topic for another day).
As the end of the shift approached (earlier than expected), I didn't have much energy left, but I did crave ice cream (@nanixxx manifesting). We went to Montefredo (a somewhat famous ice cream parlor in the city), one of the few open at that hour that day.
The flavors available didn't excite me much, so I opted for the classic: Chocolate (in Spanish sound much better 😅).
My girlfriend was a bit more adventurous and ordered a mix of Pistachio Caramel and Nutella (although she didn't like it much).
After getting ice cream, I only had energy left to watch a mini-marathon, and not even that.
I've realized that I'm at the stage where movies watch me, not the other way around.
It was an exhausting Friday.
Saturday: Movies at a Parking Lot
On Saturday, I woke up early to take care of some pending tasks for Estilo Viajero (we're back!)
Morning meeting on Whatsapp with the team, and everything ready to face the new challenges (until something unexpected appears and puts us to run like a tornado).
Get ready for some travel articles.
In the evening, we had our usual date with El Parqueo (this is a project we got to know through our work in Estilo Viajero) and I must say we've become addicted to it.
In future articles, I'll tell you about this particular project, which has managed to bring together an entire youth and change the way we see and share a cinematic experience.
This time, we went to watch the animated movie Ratatouille, bought las rositas (popcorn in English) that can't be missing (otherwise, it's not a real movie), and just enjoyed this classic.
The weather was perfect, the temperature low by the coast making you feel like you're in an air-conditioned cinema.
After finishing the movie, we went to pick up an order we placed at a pizzeria we recently discovered and liked for its peculiar combination of tomato sauce and cheese.
This pizza has become the most beloved by our team.
After so much action, it was time to rest a bit, as there was still one more day to make the most of.
Theatrical Sunday
The famous Karl Marx theater in Havana reopened its doors. After more than 4 years closed to the public, it would host a show.
This time it would host a comedy show in honor of the 30 years of the creation of the national Humor center.
Something like a convention of comedians.
Although I missed some iconic figures from the show, it's been a while since I laughed so much.
The Cuban is one of the few people who laughs at their misfortunes. Lately, we've had to laugh a lot, and this show is a good way to condense that.
3 hours full of laughter, a highly recommended show (if you know Spanish of course).
It had been many years since I had entered this theater, at least more than 10 years.
To be sitting in these seats and laughing with my family was a good experience that I will undoubtedly repeat, well, we will repeat.
At this point, I didn't even have the energy to walk anymore. Luckily we had the Mystery Machine to take us home.
The weekend turned out exactly as we had planned. It had been a long time since I had such a busy yet exciting weekend.
It had been years since I went to the theater.
It had been a while since I watched movies somewhere other than my house.
It had been a while since I felt good on duty.
A perfect weekend. I'm not used to everything going so well for me.
How did you spend last weekend? Did you do anything special or did you take it easy?
Thanks for sticking around, and see you soon.
Sorry for the quality of the photos, all were taken with my cellphone (not the best for this task)

This is an absolutely remarkable weekend and I love this ice cream flavour , I wouldn't mind some
No problem, I wouldn't mind sharing the ice cream, I'm one of those who thinks ice cream tastes better when you have someone to share it with
Pistachio Caramel and Nutella .... oh my!
The pistachio is what ruined the combination.
How is it that the films see you? Do you fall asleep?
You had a great weekend and I'm so glad that Estilo Viajero is back in business!
My girlfriend is from the land of the pistachio 🇸🇾, she adores it , but I agree with you, just don't tell her 🤫.
And Yes, I fell asleep😴, too much action for me, I'm getting old 😅
It feels amazing to be back (with Estilo Viajero I mean), I hope to see you on one of the tours 🙃
Vale. I like pistachio, but he should have mixed that with fruitier things or with yoghurt. Where is Montefredo? I've ordered ice cream from there, but I've never been. The same thing happens to me with Juankypan.
📍San Rafael entre Ronda y Mazo
There they also sell chocolates from their brand: Antonero, with good blends and quality (a bit pricey but worth it for a different experience) 😉
